Chapter 79 - The Tiger's Den

Jake stared into the dark water below and turned greenish, emptying his stomach onto the unsuspecting wildlife below.

Aiden also seemed a little bit light headed but managed to keep his food to himself instead of sharing with the fishes.

Grayson was perfectly fine, he had ridden boats in the past, they hadn't been made out of wood but it felt pretty much the same to him, the captain they had hired to drive them around these parts was an old man that was half deaf but he certainly knew how to handle the helm.

Despite how dangerous this trip was for her, Laura was also here but with Molarine by her side, she didn't risk much.

The waters were calm today, one could almost think that everything was safe but the calm was always interrupted for a few moments.

This time, what looked like a whale to Grayson appeared from the water, stabbed by what seemed to be an enormous and pointy bone, skewering the gigantic beast easily before pulling it back underwater, tainting the water in the area red for a few moments before it dispersed, leaving only the calm waters again.

This kind of spectacle had gotten more and more common the further thay had gone from the coast, it wasn't nearly as chaotic as any of the otherworlders would have expected when they had heard about it but this was way worse, at any time, something three times larger than the largest of animals back in their world could decided to destroy that ship.

It was supposed to be protected against such things but Grayson didn't feel like some repellent and a peculiar shape could stop whatever had stabbed that thing a few moments ago.

"Seems like fog is coming..." remarked the old captain, sounding a bit surprised about it.

He could be, this fog's presence didn't make much sense, the weather conditions didn't call for such a phenomenon and he or anyone else didn't see it before they were right inside of it.

The fog was thick, no one could see further than half of their extended arms, at this point, navigating through it was impossible, only guessing was possible here.

They stayed lost in the fog for an hour without hearing anything from the waters, only the sound of their own voices and the creaking of the boat made noise, it was as if the terrifying monsters of the depths weren't allowed here.

The whole ship jerked forward as it struck against something, nothing broke as they had been going fairly slowly and no ones focus was on the state of their own ship as they had something occupying their minds.

Perfectly visible through the fog all of a sudden, an absolutely gigantic ship came in view.

This thing was an impossible sight, none of the otherworlders had any idea of its name but could clearly tell that this wooden ship was a giant compared to the largest ship in their old world.

"Seems like we found our destination" spoke Laura as, Molarine picked her up alongside the wheelchair, climbing up a neaby rope ladder without question.

Grayson sent a look to his sickly teammates, basically telling them to follow suit without saying anything before climbing up on that ladder himself.

Meanwhile, the old captain was absolutely flabbergasted, with this size, few were the marine monsters that would even dare move into its shadow, it was a wonder how it hadn't collapsed under its own weight already.

He stayed on his own ship, he wasn't going to abandon his vessel, he watched as his clients fearlessly clumb on the ladder, they disappeared from his sight after they finished climbing, it was weird how the enormous ship stuck out in the intense fog, it was as if it shone an invisible light around itself.

The more he looked at it, the more uncomfortable he became, the ship's size was one thing but it was built in a weird way, anchors were placed at varying heights and random places, same thing went for various ladders, it even seemed like one of them went deeper into the water.

He turned his gaze to his left, noticing that an opening had appeared, a perfect square of wood have vanished, letting him peek inside of the ship or rather, down the barrel of a cannon, an article of weaponry that wasn't very widespread and that the old captain had never heard of.

No one was stupid enough to try and fight with anything remotely loud out into the dangerous ocean, that would be begging to be attack by more than anyone could chew.

As such, the old captain had no fear even when he realised that it was there, pointed right at his face.

A loud boom sounded in the area, prompting the ones that had clumb up on the giant of a ship to turn into the direction it had come from.

The sound was very quick and not exactly reminiscent of an actual cannon being shot, they ignored it for now and instead focused on the bizarre sight in front of them.

Masts were placed randomly across the vast deck, the sails seemed to be moving in contradicting manners, some being blown by winds from the front and others from the back, stairs went down in various places and no one was around at all.

Nothing made sense or followed the logistics of an actual ship, making some of them think that this was actually a living being disguised as a ship or something.

No magical parts of any kind were to be seen or sensed operating the ship, at the very end of the ship, the helm moved by itself, following the movements of an expert captain without anyone there, trying to stop it from turning was almost impossible and didn't even seem to have any incidence on the ship itself, it was just for show.

They even checked what should be the captain's quarter, with the only thoughts that it would be there based an their movie knowledge, exquisite quarters were to be seen but no one to go along with them.

A closet filled with the same kind of clothes again and again with only the coloring changing.

None of them felt like going into the depths of the ship as that screamed a trap but they didn't have to go for it, the ship's captain wasn't exactly patient.

Jake heard a clicking noise coming from right behind him and cold iron touching the back of his head, the others, who could clearly see what was behind him, saw a arm coming out of a nearby wall, holding a flintlock to his head, another piece of weaponry that wasn't very common in this new world, Molarine had no idea what this was.

The unknown person went to pull the trigger and Grayson wondered if he would have to kill himself to prevent that from happening.

Jake made use of his ability and everything slowed down.
