Following the instructions from the girl they didn't even know the name of, one of them knocked on the door loudly.
As they waited for something to happen, Laura paid close attention to the baron's residence, it wasn't very grand, most of the windows were sealed shut by flaps.
The residence itself was quite a bit away from the city and any of the villages, the residence was built out of a dark wood, the trees it had come from were all around the residence itself.
There seemed to be only two stories to this place and perhaps, an attic.
After a few minutes of waiting, no one was here to open the door still, Molbas was on the verge of knocking again when the door suddenly opened, opened by a man with platinum blonde hair, the looked down on the four of them as he stood taller than even Molarine.
He had the coldest blue eyes Laura had ever seen, she felt like she had been thrown in freezing water upon having him lay eyes on her.
The baron sighed and invited them in.
'Perfect, he immediately assumed we were here for the same reason as the previous women' thought Laura, happy until the door closed and she realised the creepy atmosphere of this place.
Very few lights were to be seen illuminating the place, only a few small candles here and there.
Being suddenly thrown into such a place made Laura think back on the interaction they had just had with the baron.
There hadn't been any footsteps before he opened the door, unless the place was soundproof, this meant that he had been behind the door before they even knocked.
She looked back at the door and saw that there was a peephole installed on the door, she hadn't even known that they had peepholes in this world.
The group followed the baron through a series of hallways until ending up in a small living room, where he invited them to sit down without saying a word.
The utter lack of any maid or butler somewhat unnerved Laura, weren't nobles, no matter how low they were, supposed to have servants?
This place was well-maintained, he couldn't be doing it by himself, this place was too big for a single person to reliably clean.
As if to answer her thoughts, from the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow moving behind a corner.
With a cold sweat travelling down her cheek, she turned to the baron, who was silent and still.
"Do you live here alone, sir?" she asked hesitantly.
"I do live here alone" he answered in a flat tone that screamed his utter lack of interest.
"Now, you don't appear to be the usual kind of visitors, what is it that you want?" he then asked in the same exact tone but his words immediately put tension in the air.
Molarine went right to the point as per usual.
"Would you happen to know a vampire by the name of Dea?" she asked, the utter lack of expression on the baron's face didn't help any of them guess what he could be thinking.
"I have never heard of that name" he simply responded.
"Are you sure about that? Why don't you think about it some more?" calmly asked Molarine.
"I am certain about that" he stood his ground with the same, uninterested tone and expression plastered in his face.
"Perhaps you never heard her name, Laura, the picture" spoke Molarine, none of the other intervened as she seemed utterly focused, even if it was hard to tell with Molarine.
Laura pulled the picture she had made with her divination of Dea, it wasn't very clear and her face was covered in darkness but a few details could be made out.
The pictures swapped hands until arriving into that of the baron, he took a good look at it, seeming like he had been frozen in time for a few moments as stared the picture emptily.
"I have never seen that woman in my entire life, I have never even seen a vampire" he ended up saying after an extended period of utter silence.
As he was handing the picture back, a sudden noise was heard, coming from above them, it sounded a bit muffled, as if it had come from higher than the second floor.
"I thought you lived alone" spoke Layo, raising an eyebrow at him.
"I do live alone, without any other people that is..." he explained.
"...It is but one of my pets making some noise" he added, a miniscule smile appearing on his face as he mentioned his pets.
Laura didn't know put she got chills as he smiled.
His smile almost immediately dropped, leaving place to the same empty expression as before.
"I think you have your answers, I'm sorry you couldn't find anything out" he said as he stood up.
Molarine squinted her eyes at him, it seemed like there wasn't much she could do more, he didn't appear to be the kind to spill anything even if you punched his teeth out and he wasn't impressed by her at all.
"Say, could we see those pets of yours?" spoke Molbas, not actually thinking anything particular with those words.
"Yeah, Lomeo, why don't you show us your pets, that you seem to keep in your attic?" added Layo, not even bothering with his title.
"That will not be possible, they dislike strangers" he said, still looking the same as usual.
"Oh really? Let's check that out then" uttered Molarine, moving toward the stairs in her sight without a care.
"..."
"Where did he go?" wondered Laura out loud, the baron seemed to have vanishded from his spot the second no one was looking at him.
Molarine looked at the top of the stairs, standing here wasn't the platinum blond man but a dark clothed skull head.
The figure pulled out two shiny, silver-looking knives, the exact same seen before.
Blood red dots could be seen peeking from beyond the darkness of the two skeletal sockets, the figure pointed one of the knives at the four women at the bottom of the stairs.
The figure was completely silent, the only noises coming from the skull headed figure being the sound of his own footsteps as he descended the stairs.
The cold feeling of intense bloodlust washed over the four of them.
The few candles were put out, drowning the interior of the residence in darkness.
