"A man wearing a burlap bag on his head, forced to answer some questions and then disappeared?" repeated Mylhart, he had heard a lot of things and a lot of unbelievable, weird as well as disgusting things but never he had raised an eyebrow while imagining something.
It didn't help that the three otherworlders had drawn a rough sketch of the man in question, which made him appear as if he was the imaginary friend of some kid with bad artistic skills.
He looked up at the three otherworlders, they didn't look very fresh at the moment, none of the three knew anything relating to healing magic or anything of the sort, still, they had gotten out of it fairly unscathed.
"Next, we are going to investigate the growing vegetation-" started saying Grayson as he was about to leave but he was stopped right in his track as someone else's name was called.
"Aiden, you can read status in great details and such, did you not read the one of that individual?" asked Mylhart, looking dead serious as per usual.
"Well, I tried but there was some sort of protection and I only got some random letters mashed together..." he explained, telling the truth about it as he saw nothing to gain from lying on this rubbish.
"Do you remember the letters?" asked the blond man.
Aiden suddenly paused as if someone had robbed him of his brain, he stared toward absolutely nothing with his mouth open and after a few moments, before saliva started making its way out, he went back to normal with a revelation.
"B G M H" he said.
"I don't know the order, they kept floating around but that's the letters I saw" he added on.
"Well then-" Grayson couldn't even begin to try and leave that he was once again stopped.
"I have a better mission for you three" spoke Mylhart.
"Instead of venturing far and wide, you can just stay here in comfort for this one" he said, gathering the full attention as well as interest of the three men.
"For the little story, I take care of any papers given to me late during the evening and sometime even into the night, whenever no one is around, a presence shows up and observes me" he told them while pointing at the door.
"It can be felt from other places but as a big tendency to appear behind the door, it disappears whenever it could be seen and never leaves any traces of its passage, I want you three to find it and do whatever, detain, kill, cripple, stomp on its head, rip its gut out, gouge its eyes out, burn it, whatever! I just want it to stop bothering me" he said, tapping his finger on his desk at a progressively faster pace.
The three men started thinking but Mylhart wasn't done yet.
"You will get your own rooms next to here and the food will be free"
"Sold" Grayson said as the other two nodded their heads.
It was a great opportunity, surely this thing must be of high level to be able to escape Mylhart was what they thought.
He was the general of the interior, meaning that he dealt with all of the issues of Laparadi that could be needing some intervention of troops, he was no pushover at all.
'Still, how come something can be so easily detected and yet so hard to catch?' wondered Grayson was he settled into his room, their three rooms were on the right of that of the general, directly next to it.
Grayson's wonders were justified, usually, if one was specialising in stealthiness, they would become much harder to detect as a first thing, even if this world wasn't quite as game-like with its system as he had initially thought, things tended to follow some logic, if they specialised in something, they should have the whole package of abilities to go along with it.
Everyone had basically the same system as far as he knew, some people didn't see it in the same way and had less control over it but it was still the same way of functioning for everyone.
There should be no reason for something or someone to develop random abilities like that.
Meaning, that it wasn't random.
He arrived at the conclusion that the thing observing the general was indeed specialised in something, whatever it was would only be revealed by actually finding it.
The first few weeks of guarding were uneventful, the thing hadn't shown its presence much due to the three of them being so close by, it had only appeared for a few moments each time it did.
The otherworlders hadn't noticed anything those times and it wasn't like they could be distracted by something else, this place was almost devoid of anything and anyone.
The rooms provided by the crown seemed to not be very popular and only a few people used them, Mylhart was the only one to actually live in one of them.
Someone else seemed to be living directly here apparently but she rarely actually used her room and slept inside her experiment room.
A few other people had come by but none of them were suspicious.
One day, Jake decided to go for a walk through the corridors to see if anything was up, he could see the royal castle through the windows, it wasn't far at all as the idea behind these residences had been to have important people and such close by.
The castle itself wasn't meant to welcome many people as it had been built with protection over comfort in mind, which was weird for a country that couldn't be attacked by any other.
Through walking and walking, Jake ended up in front of a place none of the others nor he had ever seen.
The writings on the door made it clear though.
"Head Scientist Willia's Laboratory" it read, Willia should be the other person that lived here if his memory served him right.
He hadn't actually seen her at all, she had stayed holed up in her lab ever since they had arrived, which was a common occurence.
By curiosity, he tried to open the door but was stopped as he noticed someone approaching.
A tall man wearing a coat that went up to the top of his neck and down to his ankles was approaching, easily noticeable due the sounds his boots made as he walked.
His face was covered by what seemed to be an ancestor to the surgical mask in Jake's eyes, as well as round glasses, the rest of his head was also wrapped in grey fabric similar to his coat.
Jake thought that it was some sort of demented surgeon but he was wrong, it was just a regular scientist here.
"Well, hello there, how may I help you?" spoke the man, looking down to look at the otherworlders eyes.
"Nothing, I was just walking around" responded Jake while backing off.
"I see, then be careful, this country as been growing more and more insecure" spoke the man, his voice was quite deep.
"Y-yeah..." Jake felt like running off but considering that it was just a scientist from here, it would be a bit ridiculous to do so.
The doors to the lab opened and a sickly looking woman entered into view, she was dressed exactly like the man except for the mask and everything on the head.
She seemed about to say something but stopped upon noticing that Jake was here.
She simply did a small sign to tell the man to follow her as she went back inside.
"Duty calls for me, have a good day Jake" spoke the man before entering the lab as well, the door closing soon after.
"Yes, you too" politely responded Jake before realising that something was off.
"How does he know my name?" he spoke out loud from sheer surprise.
