Chapter 50 - Bizarre Encounter

"That's all fine and all but it's not like we just go to his place all dandy" remarked Laura as the four of them were walking through the city of Sht'ole.

"Mmh? Are we not gonna just break in and break his legs?" asked Molarine.

"We can't just assault a noble Molarine, especially when we don't even have anything on him, he might not be our murderer after all" responded Molbas.

"We need to find a good reason for him to let us in" spoke Layo while raising a single finger up.

"Let fate decide" muttered Laura as she held a thread linked a metal ball, at first, it acted like it normally should and swayed slightly in the arid wind of the soon to come summer but eventually, started acting on its own, pointing toward a certain direction.

Rather, it was pointing toward a person.

It was pointing toward a girl with short, dark bluish hair, her forearms were exposed, letting Laura see that she could probably break her neck in two seconds.

She even had a small bandage on her nose, a textbook tomboy in short.

Now was the moment of truth, how could Laura approach this young girl without appearing weird?

She was accompanied by three special people already and even if the people here seemed to be uncaring for the moment, it was, in fact, unusual.

Before Laura could make a plan in her mind, the priestess was already on the action.

"Excuse me girl, we are travellers and were wondering if you could show us around the city" she said.

"Sure" responded the girl.

'What the hell, is it that easy to interact with strangers?' hurriedly wondered Laura.

"Are you here for a medical visit?" then asked the girl.

'She must be talking about the doctor I heard about, he's also on the suspect list' thought Laura before responding.

"Later perhaps, for the moment we just want to know a bit more about Sht'ole" she said, immediately speaking of their intention of meeting the baron would be strange, it wasn't like they had much actual reason for that other than suspecting him of being a murderer and woman kidnapper.

"I see, I see évidemment! You four are clearly in great shape" she laughed a bit before leading the way.

"There isn't much to see in this city though, that much is fairly obvious" she spoke.

"The real interesting stuff are the people who live here" she added afterwards.

"Though, Timothy is on a business trip and Malloy is already knocked out, Venec rarely shows up on account of being a wanted criminal and auntie Jeanne is always busy and barely come to visit" she remarked out loud.

"Who does that leave then?" asked Molbas, hoping that the baron was part of those interesting people.

"Well, only my father and mister Lomeo" she said, none of them showed it but all of them except for Molarine almost shouted out a 'YES'.

"Mister Lomeo is a bit reclusive though, he doesn't go out much, my father visits him sometimes but that's pretty much it" she then continued, crushing their hopes of being able to meet the man.

If he only allowed a single person to visit him, there were no chances that he would allow four randoms.

"Who is your father?" surprisingly, it was Molarine who spoke up to ask a trivial question.

"He is the doctor of course, everyone knows him around here! He knows pretty much everything about medicine, he even received a medal from the king himself" she said with a big smile on her face.

"Why is it that only your father visits the baron?" questioned Molarine, none of the three had any idea where she was going with this.

"I have no idea but like many of the men around, the baron probably asks him for advice on how to seduce" she said.

"You see, my father is clearly an expert, you just have to see how many moms I have" she elaborated, only to see three confused face and one of complete neutrality.

"Is there a problem?"

"Just curiosity but what do you mean by 'many'?" asked Laura.

"Like more than ten" calmly responded the girl with a smirk.

"..." silence filled the area.

It was a though the world had died for a few moments, as though the concept of sound had never existed, as though everyone had been turned into statues.

"There were only two at first but it quickly increased, I think another one is on the way too" breaking the silence without any problem, the tomboy elaborated without anyone asking her to.

"Anyhow, you people seemed interested in mister Lomeo, are perhaps trying to get yourselves married? A lot have tried after he moved here but as I said, he is very reclusive" she kept on speaking as though the silence from the other party had nothing to do with her.

"And now that I think about it, it was my father who recommended Lomeo to be the noble to move near Sht'ole to the king, so that's probably why he is the only one to visit him, it just slipped my mind, I guess I just wanted to mention that my father was just the coolest" she went on and on.

"If you want to try anyways, just go to his residence and knock on the door, that's how all the other tried their luck" she uttered in the end before saying her goodbyes and running off.

"Was it really fate for me to have to listen to some guy's harem?" questionned Laura as she stared at her palms.

"We have an answer now, just go knock at his door, it couldn't have been more simple" spoke Molarine, unsurprised by anything.

Even if it was a different world that was still very much in a mediaval era even with magic, hearing that some guy had more than ten wives still wasn't very commonplace at all.

"A doctor with more than ten wives? He must be pretty hot..."

"Focus Molbas, we may run into a prolific murderer soon" Layo slapped the back of the swordswoman's head.

"Can a woman not dream a little bit?" she responded as she followed the group, Layo had already made sure to know where each of their potential suspect lived so there was no need to ask around.
