As the three boys were busy picking themselves up from an extreme questionning, another group was also in the midst of trying to do something about a series of disappearances.
Only, that instead of investigating one of Laparadi's many issues, they were in Gloire, heading toward the city of Sht'ole.
The city itself was not affected but the villages that could be found not so far from it had been the theater of many disappearances and deaths.
Four women stood next to their stopped carriage, one of them sat down trying to focus on a piece of paper.
The disappearances had only started about a year ago and no one seemed to have been capable of pinpointing the culprit or maybe, no one had seriously tried to until now.
Not all disappearances were linked to this case of course but a certain pattern could clue anyone that it was the work of a single entity, the ones who disappeared were always young women, never exceeding twenty years old.
Most of the time, the disappearance was accompanied by a blood bath, the culprit would force their way inside the home of their target and murder everyone else that got in their way with very specific weapons.
Some of the wounds could reveal the strange appearances of the knives used and it became even clearer when the woman that was currently sitting started investigating.
Her name was Laura and just like the three boys, she was an unwanted, she had arrived from the same batch of summoning but had been left without anyone else like some other.
This was why her companions were not otherworlders like her, though, they seemed a bit strange to her.
Laura's ability related to divination and such things, her ability wasn't very defined, meaning that it was quite flexible but not quite as powerful as a more specialised one.
Using it, she had been able to reconstruct parts of the murder scenes, confirming that it was the work of the same person thanks to the weapon used, the figure of the killer was as faint as it could be while the knives themselves had been as clear as day.
They were incredibly shiny, seemingly made of silver or something similar, they were slightly curved, it was serrated on the back, near the handle of the knife.
The handle was also a knuckleduster, the whole knife seemed to be made out of a single piece of material.
The killer wielded one in each hand and seemed incredibly proficient.
Currently, Laura was focusing on a piece of paper and using her ability to try and reveal the killer's face, in her previous attempts, the killer had been nothing but a vague humanoid shape but this place was apparently where he had been spotted by someone who hadn't died, that person had been a drunkard who was unable to remember anything but it was fact that someone had seen him and lived.
This fact could and should help her make the killer appear on this piece of paper, with slight shock of mana, the piece of paper started changing, looking more and more like an actual picture, something that was yet to be invented in this world, at least as far as Laura knew.
The four women looked at the picture, hoping to get a clear sight of the culprit's face.
The picture showed what appeared to be a man wearing an exquisite suit, every article of clothing on his person was black, he was dressed how Laura would expect the villain of a mediocre TV show to be dressed.
However, his face wasn't visible, it was covered by a skull or perhaps multiple ones, it was hard to tell but it seemed like the murderer had glued many skull pieces all around his head, making it appear like he was a skeleton.
What gave away that it wasn't one was the fact that the skull was obviously larger than it should be since it was stuck on top of an actual head.
"That doesn't seem very conclusive..." spoke one of the other women, her hair was slightly blondish and very intricate for some reason, her cyan eyes stared at the picture with a disappointed look.
She appeared to be exactly dressed like a wandering swordswoman, her sword tied to her waist and wearing a white shirt, she didn't seem to be a big fan of iron armor as she only wore some pieces of some sort of leather here and there.
"Quite the contrary Molbas, not anyone can just wear this sort of clothing" pointed out someone else, she was dressed up like a typical priestess only that her robe was a vibrant green, this was quite the contrast with her reddish hair and blue eyes.
"Layo is right, this place isn't overflowing with rich people" spoke Laura, she too wore a robe as her divination skill had oriented her to a more magic focused set of skills.
She had short brown hair and blue eyes.
The fourth member of their group stayed silent as per usual, her name was Molarine, she had dark hair and orange eyes, she had bandages wrapped on her hands and wrists as she was a pugilist, she also dressed in black.
Laura felt like she was a bit edgy but nothing overbearing.
At long last, Molarine was about to speak.
"Let's just beat the shit out every rich person around then" she announced with a straight face.
"There shouldn't be a need to try at random, the disappearance first started a short while after a noble moved near Sht'ole, the baron Lomeo I believe" spoke Layo, thankfully, she had done a bit of research before coming here.
"A baron? A simple baron would have a strong link with her? That seems a bit weird" remarked Molbas.
What she said didn't surprise anyone, after all, they weren't here just to solve a murder case, they were here because Laura's divinations had revealed that the murderer was strongly linked with someone they were all looking for.
All of them except Laura, the three had found each other first, uniting in their quest to go kill a vampire and they had just so happened to go to her to find that vampire and now she was part of the gang.
Just like that and the four of them were riding their carriage, going to go meet a noble who may not actually be directly linked to that vampire.
She was certain that her divination was right when it said 'strong link' but it didn't exactly meant direct.
