After school Liam asked around the Valley about the Cobra Kai dojo. Apparently it was in a strip mall and was getting really popular due to their recent win in the All Valley tournament. When Liam went there he saw a cluster of people all lined up to enter and join the dojo. Liam walked past all of them, slammed open the door and set foot in the dojo. The people inside, getting ready before their class, turned their heads and got annoyed at Liam's audacity. Liam stepped on the mat not taking his shoes off "From what I have seen none of you are good, so I came to challenge your teacher hoping he was stronger, so where is he?"
Liam saying this angered everyone inside."First off, shoes of the mat, second, who the fuck are you?!" A guy with a mohawk and a scar on his lip said in an infuriated tone as he stood up and walked to Liam."What happened to your lip?" Liam asked as he pointed to the boy's mouth. The boy without thinking swung his fist. Before the boy's fist could travel halfway to Liam, in the blink of an eye he had his leg raised and the sole of his shoe on his face and swung down forcing the boy onto his back with Liam's foot resting on his face. Liam took his foot off of the boy's face and looked at the bottom."I was only asking, no need to overreact. Uugh… now I got blood on my shoes" the boy didn't respond, he just laid there staring at the ceiling with a bloody nose.
"Hey, shoes off…" A blonde middle aged man said trailing of as he saw the entire scene. "What do you want kid?" The man said in an irritated tone as he stepped closer to him and the boy with a mohawk."Your their sensei right? I came to challenge you because all of your students were subpar fighters at best" the blonde man got visibly outraged."Huh, so you want a fight, take your shoes off, and I'll be happy to whoop your ass" the man said still angry. The man then looked to some of the people in the dojo and pointed at the boy on the floor "get him to the back and make sure he's okay." As he was saying this and the boy got carried away, Liam kicked of his shoes and stood in a casual stance, the blonde man got in a karate stance and said "we're gonna start now get into stance" Liam replied nonchalantly "don't need to."
The man rushed at Liam and sent a punch to his head, Liam tilted his head to the side with his red eyes following the punch as it traveled by his head. The man was shocked at how effortlessly Liam dodged his fist. Liam sighed "What did I expect from the teacher of third rate martial artists" he muttered aloud before sending a punch to the man's chest, the man jumped back and stood in his stance staring at Liam pissed and nervous. Liam was surprised by the man's ability to dodge "I guess I underestimated you a little, I'll give you credit you ok" Liam said still in a casual stance but now his left leg was back and his torso shifted at an angle from the man "but I'm still better" he said as he darted forward as he jumped and aligned his heel with the man's head. The man was barely able to block his head from being kicked hit with an axe kick, the man threw up an x-block to defend. After the hit made contact with the man's arms Liam's body twirled midair as he was lowering due to gravity, with this spin he performed another midair strike but this time it was a roundhouse kick, and it landed. The kick hit the man in the ribs and the moment Liam landed he squared keeping all the momentum and swept the man's legs. The man didn't slay on the floor for a second and did a kick up though he did groan.
His students watching were worried, they have never seen their sensei struggle in a fight so much and not landing a hit on the opponent is another story entirely. A latino boy in a black gee, similar to the one the man was wearing, was watching the fight angry and worried, angry because his sensei was being beaten, and worried because of the exact same reason. He knew his sensei would never want someone to interfere with his fights, but he wanted to do something to help him, but he couldn't.
Liam looked at the man as he stood groaning "You good to continue?" The man looked at him with a scowl "You haven't beaten me kid" he then looked deeply into the kid's eyes "Who are you kid?" Liam smiled as he widened his stance " I'm Liam, Liam Kreese." The moment he heard his full name the man's eyes shot open in fear and surprise "H-how do you know John Kreese?" Liam said clearly and with no hesitation "He's my father and sensei… So, are we gonna continue or not?"
"Yeah, I still need to show you your place kid" the man retorted to Liam's question."Good" Liam lunged forward but this time he threw out his fist. The man couldn't react and was struck directly on his chest. The man attempted a counter but Liam dodged. The match continued for a few more minutes. The match concluded with Liam landing over thirty hits and not being hit, a clear and concise victory for Liam, a one-sided victory that was prolonged by the man's tenacity.
He left the dojo, and started walking home. He felt empty, fighting someone weaker is not his style and isn't an achievement. He continued his walk, not to his residence but just 'around' so as to think and contemplate about who he is and wants to be. The day became night as he continued thinking. Maybe he could be a doctor, and with his precision he would do wonderfully as a surgeon, or maybe a soldier, with his skills and ability he would thrive, or maybe something else entirely. As he was pondering about his future he saw a familiar face in the distance.
"Dad?" The one he saw in the distance was John Kreese and he looked to be heading to the Cobra Kai dojo. Liam jogged up to him but stayed at a distance so as to follow Kreese without being spotted. Kreese got to the dojo doors and stopped for a moment to pull out a cigar and lighting it before walking in. Liam watched Kreese from outside through the blinds of the dojo's windows. The blonde man walked out from a room in the back. He looked at Kreese with fear, then anger, then confusion? The man showed a whole slew of emotions through his interaction with Kreese. The man and Kreese had a conversation, but then the man suddenly threw a punch, Kreese easily countered and flipped the man onto the floor. The man, after a brief exchange of word, did a turning kick from the floor, hitting Kreese in the face, knocking the cigar out of his mouth. The man rose to his feet. They exchanged blows but Kreese broke the chain hitting the man into a mirror shattering it. The man rushed Kreese, tackling him to the ground. They fought on the ground till the man was standing behind Kreese holding him in a headlock. The man released Kreese, and Kreese used this opportunity to sweep his leg and elbow him in the solar plexus. The man just laid there and Kreese rolled onto his back next to the man. The sprinklers and fire alarms went off due to the stray cigar causing a fire. They payed there a while before getting up. They didn't trade blows but instead just spoke. Liam couldn't make out what they said due to the dimness, the angle and most recently the water being sprinkled down. Kreese left after talking with the man.
Liam followed Kreese till he called out "Dad! What are you doing here?" Kreese turned around a little startled but he hardly portrayed it."I was meeting a former student." "You mean the old blonde guy? Who is he?" Liam asked."He is Johnny Lawrence, a member of Cobra Kai, and one of my greatest students" Kreese said with pride."He didn't seem that great when I fought him earlier" Liam said almost doubting Kreese's words."He was a lot better when he was younger, he's clearly losing his edge, but he can get it back under my tutelage" Kreese said sure of himself and his former student."Whatever you say old man, did you get into town today?" Liam asked curious to his father's arrangements."Yes I did, and I'm currently going to be living separate from you kid." They continued walking for a while till they split ways to go to their residences.
