_
The bird in the cage looked sad.
It wanted to fly away so bad.
It dreamed to escape the cage and get out
And so it did its best to break out
At the cost of its feathers falling out.
_
Finally, it was free from the cage.
It flew around the place in glee.
It flew excitedly only to see
Itself being trapped in a bigger cage.
_
The bird is suffocating in its stowage.
And its frustration grew with its rage.
So it did everything to get uncaged
Even at the cost of itself's wreckage.
_
The bird finally once again escaped.
With injured wings, it was handicapped.
But it's excitement couldn't be stopped.
And so it raised it's wings and flapped.
_
Happily, the bird flew.
Feeling as though it was born anew.
But realization came upon it as it flew,
The world was different from what it knew.
_
Darkness prevailed, making it stop
The merciless air made it shiver and cold.
Everything seemed so different and odd.
Unlike the dream it once held as its hope.
_
It flew around, round and round and round.
And as it did, a painful thought emerged.
It was still held captive and caged.
In a cage with only cold darkness around.
_
The bird quelled the pain in it's heart
That inside could've torn it apart
It breathed out to calm itself down
And endured the pain to not fall down.
_
With tired wings it flew once more,
Not minding about anything anymore,
And as it flew, fragments of light rose
Giving the bird a newfound sense of purpose.
_
It flew painstakingly towards the light
Without stop even as it grew weaker and tired
Its barred skin could no longer hide
As it's feathers fell off from its height.
_
The light became brighter as it flew forward.
With hopes for the freedom it so desired
But without warning, the light in its eyes dimmed
Making it unable to move onwards.
_
It fell without ever reaching the light.
