"I don't know for sure who spread the infection through block 2 and block 3, but in a matter of days, everything went to hell. I remember the doors of the apartments being hit from the inside by their already dead occupants. We tried to act the same as with Clemente but it was impossible to lock them all up. The only reason people didn't leave the block was that they were afraid of what was waiting for them outside."
"The last day was chilling. My husband was lying in bed, his face covered in sweat. His last words were "I'm hungry." I went to the kitchen of the apartment and prepared something for him. When I got back to the room, he was gone. I heard noises coming from our roommates' room and went to see what was happening."
"I'm embarrassed to admit it, but can you believe I was jealous? The woman was on the bed and my husband was on top of her. All I felt inside was jealousy. At that moment the woman "shouted help me" which penetrated my bones. It was also when my husband turned his head and started chasing me."
"I ran for my life. My husband's growls haunted me. I was about to reach the door when it opened. "Careful!" the woman's husband shouted. I dropped to the ground. My husband ran over me and landed in front of my neighbor. The man tried to escape but the infected was faster. I stood at the same time that the woman was leaving the room; complete metamorphosis. The infected let out a dry roar and stuck her eyes on me. I jumped the obstacle that made my escape impossible-my husband devouring that man-and slammed the door behind me."
"Once in the hallway, I put my hands to my knees and coughed for a long time. I was about to start crying when a child ran past me. The little one gave off a scent that I still can't decipher today. "
"I looked around. Block 2 was plunged into chaos. People ran from side to side, some with children, others with bloody hands. I decided to leave the building. The drive to the exit was a horror show; many of the infected had managed to escape from their prisons and were roaming the corridors killing everything."
"I ran holding back tears. I reached the fire escape where a young woman was being torn to pieces alive. I knew it from her screams since I didn't dare to look at her. Making sure the infected weren't following me, I slammed the door again. Several fists began to knock on the fire door."
"I had to go down three floors. I walked, step by step, I descended like a robot that had nothing but transients in mind. I think I've come to myself when I get to the door."
"The front door was Pandemonium. People were pushing to get out and the moment they were out they were running in no particular direction."
"Once I was out, two people caught my eye. They were quiet and talking to each other. They were Eduardo and Victor. One of them, I don't remember who, pointed at the building and I followed his index finger with my eyes. Block 2 looked like the Titanic. The cries of the "passengers" could be heard through the windows while those who could jump into "the water".
"Block 2 sank and I guess the water would have drowned us all if Eduardo hadn't shouted at the time "We have to close the front door!"
"A snow-white blond boy came out of the door, knocked down a neighbor who was trying to escape, and began to devour her face. The victim's husband beat the child in vain. Eduardo grabbed the boy by the shirt and threw him to the other side of the door. When he hit the ground, Eduardo was already closing the door."
"The neighbors who were evacuating block 2 lost their minds and started pulling in to open it. Eduardo couldn't counteract the force exerted from the other side and was about to give in when Victor clung to the door with him."
"Fast!" Eduardo shouted."Bring a car and park it here, in front of the door!"
"A neighbor went for his car. In less than a minute, the vehicle was sealing the entrance to block 2. I can still see their desperate faces as they realized what we were doing; some tried to contain the infected child, and others beat their fists against the crystal. It began to crack to give way to hands and screams through different holes."
"They're infected," Eduardo said, holding the pressure from the door.
"Suddenly, the crackle of the glass was silenced by the roar of an engine. We all turned our heads in unison to watch a red car accelerate in our direction. The screams of panic of those who were already safe were added to that of those who were locked up. People moved away from the path of the vehicle. The car was advancing mercilessly."
"Eduardo waits until the last minute before seeking refuge. When he realized that the car was heading to block 2, he exclaimed"
"Victor, let's go!"
"But this one was no longer by his side. Eduardo distanced himself just as the car turned sharply to the right; the driver's door opened and a man came out from inside, rolling on the grass. Eduardo recognized him right away, it was Victor."
"The vehicle continued its gruesome trajectory and collided with the car parked earlier. The crash was so violent that both vehicles entered the front of the building. I remember the agonized cry of a man before a mass of debris fell on the cars, covering everything in dust and closing the entrance forever."
"Then, when the door was impassable, Eduardo turned around and, for the first time, I saw those tired green eyes that are with us today."
"Everyone..." Eduardo whispered with a bloody face.
"Sorry," says Maria with a sparkle in her eyes, "I think that's enough for today. "At another time, if you wish, I'll tell you the rest."
"Thank you."
"You can bring Sofia to me whenever you want and I'll take care of her for you. "Goodbye, Princess."
