Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Some Sudden Changes

Minutes passed, hours passed but the girl still couldn't wake up from the sleep. It is said it takes a person a week to get up after being put to sleep by the drug.

After a long time she woke up and found herself in her own room.

"Bee! (^-^)"

Bea got close to Fedyenka to help her get up from the bed. She caressed her with her ears made of vinyl.

"Hey Bea." said Fedyenka.

Bea showed on the screen

"Bee (-^-) 'I MISSED YOU'... ... ARE YOU OKAY NOW?"

"Yeah I'm fine. Man...I feel like half of my life I have been asleep. Why do I always fall asleep after something big happens."

"Bee? (^-^)?"

"Why am I here?"

Bea showed her on her screen that Yuri left her here and that Phantom will be living with her from now on. Bea also stated that Phantom has left for a mission that won't take longer than one day.

"He will be living here?!? In my room?!? Ughh...We ain't gonna get along. Owh...I won't be able to switch beds anymore."

Bea banged on Fedyenka's head lightly and stated,

"ISN'T THAT A GOOD THING? (o-o)"

"I don't know. I just hope that we won't get in fights. By the way, what happened to the seminar thing?"

Bea answered that Fedyenka got suspended from any sort of training. Rather than that, she will go to missions from now on.

"WHAT? That was too fast. Why am I going to go to missions from now on? I don't even know how to use several weapons. I only know how to-"

Someone entered the room without any sound. The person had brown hair with green eyes. His skin was yellowish. He was wearing a surgical mask with surgical apron holding a syringe which was filled with a red substance. Fedyenka looked at the person and smiled.

"Mr. Spencer. Do you need anything?" said Fedyenka.

"No, I have come to check if you need anything." said Mr. Spencer.

"I don't need anything at the moment. Oh Mr. Spencer, do you know where Phantom is?"

"Yes I do. He is out for some mission and he'll be back after twenty four hours. Yuri told me that you have been eager to talk to him for some reasons."

"Yeah. He is my brother yet we don't have much understanding. I just want to make things clear that I don't want to fight him. Being silent around him would be better than fighting him."

"In my opinion, both would be worse. You two are going to be partners in missions. Being silent would only make the mission progress slow and would also leave a great chance for the mission to fail."

"Hmm... I understand. Mr. Spencer is there any way you can change his thoughts?"

"No can do. Even though I am the first sage, I cannot change his way of thinking. He is a modified being like you who wants to be free. I hope you don't turn out to be more like him."

"Um...like what?"

"Like a total menace. You are already one and I don't want you to be more like that. Since the day you have awakened a portion of your power, OUTE has gone through many difficulties."

"How many days has it been?"

"It's been two days."

"TWO DAYS?!?"

"Don't yell. It's really annoying. I will inform Yuri that you are awake. Even though he is busy with something now, your matters are the most important ones right now."

"Mr. Spencer."

"Yes, Fedyenka?"

"Why are you wearing a surgical apron and holding a syringe?"

"I was operating a werewolf. Someone told me that you are awake so I rushed off here."

"Uh...why rush with a syringe with the red substance?"

"Because there was a chance that you would throw a tantrum again. By the way, this thing is called zolpidem 100. Don't call it red substance again."

Mr. Spencer left the room.

"Damn they way he came in was cringe. Werewolf...why does it seem familiar to me? Perhaps I shouldn't think about it much and start thinking about the message more. I almost forgot about it." said Fedyenka in her mind. Bea got curious about her silence and made the 'Bee' sound to snap her back to reality.

"What is it, Bea?" said Fedyenka.

Bea asked her why she was silent. Fedyenka simply answered with a 'nothing'.

"I will go to the library once I'm done talking with Yuri. He'll probably be here any moment." said Fedyenka in her mind.

Yuri got in the room while talking with someone on the headset.

"Yeah. Got it. I'll be hanging up now. Goodbye." said Yuri.

Fedyenka stayed silent. She stared outside from the window beside her bed.

"Feeling well? I have been waiting for a news and there you are."

"News about what? My death?" said Fedyenka with a calm face.

"Absolutely..."

"Yes?"

"...not."

"Then about what?"

"Before that, what made you think that I would want you dead?"

"You flung that effing blue sleep med on me and you ask me why..."

"I did it for your own good."

"What good?"

"You will know when you know."

Fedyenka acted as if she is mad at Yuri. Rather, she acted like that to misguide the spectators. She clearly realized that Bea was just a cute machine given to her so that won't feel alone at first. But now ,Bea has gotten a bit 'modification'. If she didn't then Mr. Spencer wouldn't rush off to her after some time Fedyenka woke up. Realizing certain things like this, she became a little frustrated to know that even her adorable friend isn't so trustworthy right now.

"Have you eaten anything after you woke up?" said Yuri.

"No. What about you?"

"I ate my fill about three hours ago. It's evening now. Go grab some snacks from the vending machine. The researchers are busy with certain topic right now so, most of the vending machines in the building are empty. Go grab one from the one near comedor."

"Comedor? The place where I usually have my breakfasts at?"

"Yes. I'll leave now. Bea, come with me."

"Bee (-^-)"

"Okay okay, stay with her. Ugh, I'll have to carry all these alone now."

Yuri left the room.

"Hey Bea, can you tell me about Kaiko?"

Bea showed her that Kaiko is a trainee from another country far away in the east. He is a descendant of a being called Kirin. The Kirins are extinct species. One of the Kirin once fell in love with a human woman. Unlike other human-non human creatures, their breeding weren't done in a lab. Rather those were done 'naturally'.

"So I won't be able to meet him. What about Ae-Ri?" said Fedyenka.

Bea showed her that Ae-Ri is a human who was later modified in the hibernation wing oh OUTE. Ae-Ri's mana or energy is originally from a country of the middle east. The middle eastern areas used to have vast amount of small creatures with wings who were called 'fairies' or 'jania'.

"Wait wait wait, Ae-Ri's name sounds like she is originally from the eastern country Tianlingyu. Then why does her mana seem like it's from Ard Aldhahab?" said Fedyenka while stroking her chin.

Bea stated that she does not know and that it is still a mystery even to the researchers who modified her.

"Maybe she got adopted by some people from Tianlingyu. Anyway, I'm gonna head off to the vending machine now. Doesn't it seem weird though..." said Fedyenka.

"Bee? (0-0)?"

"You know Yuri- uh um...never mind."

Bea sat on the ground and loosened up her tail to plug it with the power adapter.

"You ain't coming?" said Fedyenka after she took her jacket on.

Bea stayed silent.

"Oh...okay. Bye." said Fedyenka while opening the door.

While walking towards the vending machine, Fedyenka wondered what made Bea so tired that she is now charging. While she was on the way, she saw her brother holding a chocolate milk and taking a sip.

"Ahoy." said Phantom.

"Huh...you are suddenly friendly today. Something's up?"

"Yes. Let's go to a place with more natural things."

"Where is the guarantee that there ain't no artificial thing among the natural things you speak of?"

"Stop showing me your useless logics."

"No logic is useless."

"Keep your thoughts to yourself. Come with me."

"So that you can cover me with wounds and scars again?"

"No. From now on, I won't."

"Why should I trust you?"

"Ughh, you little. Just attack me if I do anything bad to you. You are too careful as a young soul. I am more than a thousand years old yet I am bolder than you."

"Does it mean you were like an old hag when you were little?"

"You fu- ughh... just come with me."

They both headed to the seashore. A rock with a paper wrapped around it piqued Fedyenka interest. She held the rock with care and slowly unwrapped the rock. The paper had a letter written on it. Most of the words were scrabbled so she could only read some words, "I miss you...your mo....take care on the other side with...."

She couldn't read the rest. Phantom took the letter from her and said, "Yuri still does it... That troublesome kid."

"I don't understand you peep's relation sense. Yuri addresses me as her daughter and you are addressing him as a kid yet you say that you are my brother. None of it makes sense." said Fedyenka.

"I never told you that you are my sister. They told you this right?"

"Y-Yeah..."

"It is because you have fifty percent of my genes. Nothing else."

"Wait what?"

"Oh? Surprised aren't you? Well wanna know more?"

"Yeah. Why did you want to kill me the whole time?"

"It is because I don't care about family, friends or love. You are my family because I share fifty percent of my genes with you. I think I should call it DNA. It sounds better. Well, you know, when they build you up and make you reach your full potential, I will die. I will die because of you. All my life I have been carefree and full of laughter and boldness until you came. I have been working under this organization for thousands of years. This place could never be as it is without me."

"But now they want to kill you?"

"Yes. Just like me, a lot of snipers were killed. Remember Fed, no matter you are the universal gift or a self made gift like me, you will be thrown away by them one day."

"Universal gift? By the way, I almost forgot to ask you. Why do they call me a gift?"

Phantom took a deep breath before telling her. He opened his mouth and said, "You are..."
