Chapter 36 - Chapter no.36 The Paradox of a Bloody yet Beautiful World

In the ancient times before humans discovered the secrets of cultivation, the Wuji Continent was ruled by the fearsome demon beasts. Born with the innate ability to harness spiritual Qi, these ferocious creatures dominated the land, asserting their authority as apex predators. They roamed vast territories, their very presence striking terror in the hearts of lesser beings. However, their reign was not to last. Over time, a new race of beings emerged from the ranks of the demon beasts themselves: the spectres. These humanoid creatures, evolved from their bestial brethren, wielded cultivation powers far beyond those of their savage ancestors.

When humans entered the scene and uncovered the mysteries of cultivation, they saw the demon beasts as inferior and barbaric, and the spectres shared this disdain. As humanity's power grew, they waged a relentless war against the once-mighty demon beasts, hunting them down and driving many to the brink of extinction. Those that managed to escape the wrath of humankind and the spectres fled the Wuji Continent, seeking refuge in the void space beyond its borders. The world had changed, and the once-proud demon beasts were now seen as remnants of a savage past, scorned by those who now ruled the lands they once dominated.

As the tides of fortune shifted, the once-predominant demon beasts found themselves subjugated by the very beings they once hunted. Humanity, now armed with the power of cultivation, stood at the apex of the food chain, casting down their former oppressors. The demon beasts, once feared and revered, were now reduced to subservient creatures, made to serve the whims of mankind.

The spectres, having evolved from the demon beasts themselves, played a crucial role in this transition. No longer bound by the primitive instincts of their bestial origins, they viewed the demon beasts with disdain, aligning themselves with the humans who now ruled the Wuji Continent. Together, they exploited the demon beasts, harnessing their power and abilities for their own purposes.

The roles had been reversed, and the once-mighty demon beasts were now relegated to the status of prey, forced to obey and serve their new masters. In a cruel twist of fate, the once-great rulers of the Wuji Continent found themselves struggling for survival, as their former prey ascended to the position of dominance they had once held.

[ Black Lotus Cult - The Wailing Isle ]

As the sun began its slow descent towards the horizon, the warm glow of twilight enveloped the vast expanse of the sea, heralding the approach of dusk. A peculiar seagull, unlike any other, soared towards the sandy beach of The Wailing Isle. This mystical island was a wonder of nature and magic, encircled by vibrant rings of spiritual Qi that defied gravity and kept it suspended in mid-air.

The seagull, known as the Aethergull, boasted a unique appearance that set it apart from its more mundane counterparts. Its skin was translucent and pulsing, and its wings, reminiscent of camel humps, were twisted and grotesque. Despite its peculiar appearance, the Aethergull glided through the air with a strange, hypnotic grace, its slow, deliberate wingbeats capturing the attention of any who beheld it.

High above the island, the Aethergull's enchanting flight was abruptly cut short by the sudden appearance of a magnificent behemoth: the Yang Crane. With its long, slender neck and expansive wingspan, the Yang Crane was a creature of unmatched beauty and power. Its pristine feathers, white as freshly fallen snow, contrasted starkly with the shimmering blue of its gem-like eyes, which seemed to pierce the very souls of those who dared to gaze upon it.

In a swift, almost predatory motion, the Yang Crane snatched the Aethergull from the air and devoured it, asserting its dominance over the skies. Its graceful flight carried it towards the beaches of the Wailing Isle, where a group of a hundred adolescent children stood, transfixed by the awe-inspiring sight of the formidable demon beast.

Their eyes widened in a mixture of fear and admiration as they observed the Yang Crane's display of power, the unfortunate Aethergull serving as a stark reminder of the hierarchy that existed within the world of these mystical creatures. As the Yang Crane drew nearer to the shore, the children's anticipation grew.

Yue Fei stood at the front of the crowd, a mischievous glint in his eye that hinted at the challenging journey ahead. He clapped his hands once as the creature landed on the beach creating a dust cloud, and a gust of wind swept through the field, causing the children's hair to whip around their faces like banners heralding the beginning of their quest.

"Behold, the Yang Cloud Crane!" Yue Fei shouted, his voice carrying over the hushed murmurs of the assembled children. "This magnificent creature is the key to unlocking your true potential as martial artists. You will ride on its back, high above the clouds, and be transported to a destination where you will obtain your martial skeletons and hone your newfound skills."

The children murmured among themselves, their hearts pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Some checked their weapons nervously, while others whispered to each other, speculating about the trials that lay ahead. As they listened to Yue Fei's words, their minds raced with questions: What challenges would they face? How would they fare against the unknown?

Xu Wen'an stood at the back of the crowd, observing the proceedings with a skeptical eye. She had witnessed many students come and go over the years, and she knew all too well that not everyone would survive the arduous trials that lay ahead. The weight of their responsibility weighed heavy on her heart, as she silently wished for their success.

With a raised hand, Yue Fei signaled the crane to lower its head. The enormous bird obliged, fixing its beady, piercing eyes on the group of young warriors. "Now then," he commanded, "form a line and climb onto Zhou's back. And remember, if you fall off during the journey, the crane will not stop to pick you up. You must rely on your own strength and skill to survive."

The children rushed forward eagerly, their eyes shining with a combination of excitement and fear. Xu Wen'an hung back, silently observing as they clambered onto the crane's broad back, their hands gripping its soft feathers tightly for support. As the crane took flight, the children's screams echoed through the sky, their voices carried by the wind like a haunting melody that underscored the gravity of their journey.

As each child found their place on the crane's back, they couldn't help but feel the enormity of the task before them. They had been training for the last year, but this was their first true test, and the anxiety gnawed at the edges of their courage. They would have to rely on everything they had learned to overcome whatever obstacles lay ahead.

Xu Wen'an watched as the crane soared into the distance, its white wings beating against the darkening sky, a stark contrast against the twilight. She knew that for these children, the true test was just beginning. They would face trials and tribulations that would test their strength, their courage, and their will to survive in a world filled with danger and uncertainty.

As she turned to leave, Xu Wen'an whispered a heartfelt wish to the wind, hoping it would reach the ears of the young warriors: "Good luck to you all. The true hell is just getting started, but may you find the strength and determination to persevere and triumph." Her thoughts echoed the unspoken hopes and fears of each child, as they embarked on a journey that would define their lives.

Amidst the vast azure canvas of the sky, a majestic white crane soared with unmatched grace, its wings spread wide to embrace the winds that carried it effortlessly through the air. Below, a group of people watched in awe as the place they had called home for the past year came into full view. A massive floating island lay before them, a breathtaking sight that seemed to defy the very laws of nature. The island was wreathed in rings of spiritual Qi, a shimmering, ethereal energy that held it aloft as though it were cradled in the hands of the gods themselves.

"How is this possible?" a voice whispered from within the crowd, echoing the disbelief and amazement that filled each onlooker's heart. Yue Fei, our mentor and guide, extended his arms as though embracing the very sky. His aura radiated an azure glow that seemed to blend seamlessly with the heavens above.

With a clench of his fist, Yue Fei hurled a ball of spiritual Qi towards the sea's surface far below. As it struck the water, it expanded outward in a breathtaking display, its energy forming a series of interconnected branches that painted a celestial tapestry against the backdrop of the deep blue sea. The sight was so beautiful that it could be seen even from our lofty vantage point in the sky.

"That, my friends, is the Sky Cloud Coral," Yue Fei explained to the curious children. "It is a living marvel, producing a unique substance that imbues non-living things with the ability to float in the air for a certain period. The coral is a truly remarkable creature, indeed."

As our group continued to observe the island, the lush landscape unfolded before us, a verdant oasis teeming with life. Towering trees with leaves of every hue stretched towards the sky, their branches laden with exotic fruits that sparkled like gems in the sunlight. Flowers of unimaginable beauty carpeted the forest floor, their vibrant colors and enchanting scents attracting a multitude of insects and creatures.

Among the island's many denizens were the fuzzy buzzy ,insectoid cats, an endearing and peculiar species that captivated the hearts of those who encountered them. These curious creatures boasted the soft, cuddly appearance of felines, but their bodies were adorned with delicate insect-like wings that hummed as they flitted from flower to flower, creating an enchanting symphony that filled the air.

Lee Min, gazed at the island with wide-eyed wonder, her mind reeling with the possibilities that awaited us on our upcoming journey, not knowing the horrors that awaited for them.

Lü Bu regarded the scene with an air of indifference, his thoughts preoccupied with the trials he had faced thus far and the ones he was yet to conquer. His stoic gaze betrayed little of the emotions that churned beneath the surface, a calm facade that masked his own apprehensions.

As I beheld the breathtaking landscape, I couldn't help but feel at peace. The vibrant colors of the flora, the gentle hum of the fuzzy buzzy insectoid cats, and the soothing rhythm of the waves crashing against the island's shores melded together in a symphony of nature that seemed to speak directly to my soul as I forgot all about the problems of the world, enjoying this moment.

As the night began to blanket the sky, the shadows cast by the setting sun started to stretch and merge, signaling the end of another day. The twilight hues of orange, pink, and purple painted the horizon, and the first stars began to twinkle, heralding the arrival of darkness. The air around us grew cooler, and a sense of anticipation filled the atmosphere, electrifying the group of children gathered on the back of the Yang White Crane.

One of the children at the front of the group, his voice wavering with anticipation, asked, "How far are we going to go?" Yue Fei pointed towards a skull-shaped island in the distance, its silhouette barely visible against the darkening sky.

"That is where you need to be," he declared. "In the center of the island, you will find an ancient library containing scrolls about martial skeletons and how to obtain them. Only take one, though, as a human's mind cannot withstand the burden of obtaining multiple martial skeletons. And, the first person to arrive at the library will receive a special grade martial skeleton."

Yue Fei then pulled out a talisman and slapped it on Lee Min's forehead.

"Your pouches contain two months' worth of nourishment pills alongside this talisman. Apply the talisman to your body and jump," he said.

What?"

Lee Min exclaimed in disbelief, her eyes wide with fear and surprise. Before she could even process what was happening, she found herself hurled through the air towards the island at an astonishing speed. The other children gasped in shock, their eyes locked on Lee Min's rapidly shrinking form as she soared through the sky, her arms flailing helplessly in a futile attempt to regain control.

"Either you jump or I hurl you to your destination!" Yue Fei shouted, leaving the children with no choice but to obey. They all nervously applied the talisman to their chests before clenching their fists and preparing to jump.

.....

The wind howled past my ears as I fell through the sky, my heart pounding in my chest like the beat of a drum. I clutched tightly to the hilt of my saber, trying to steady my nerves and focus on something other than the impending sense of doom that seemed to be closing in on me. The rush of air was deafening, and I could feel the pressure building in my ears.

As I descended, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty of the island below. The skull-shaped island was a verdant paradise, covered in lush greenery and towering trees that seemed to stretch up towards the heavens. The branches contorted in such a way that they looked like hands trying to grasp something, their leaves rustling in the wind.

But it was the rings of spiritual Qi around the island's base that truly captivated me. They pulsed and glowed, casting an otherworldly light across the landscape. Their beauty was so mesmerizing that my mind blanked out for a moment, lost in wonder and awe.

The talisman on my chest glowed brighter as I approached the island, enveloping me in a bubble of spiritual Qi that slowed my descent.

As I floated through the air, the spiritual bubble shielded me from harm, and I looked down at the ocean below. Suddenly, my eyes caught sight of something extraordinary. Jellyfish-like creatures, with iridescent bodies, emerged from the depths of the sea, floating towards the sky. Their long, translucent tentacles trailed behind them, creating a mesmerizing dance in the air.

I watched in awe as their bodies glimmered and sparkled, lighting up the sky like stars. The colors shifted and changed, casting an ethereal glow on the water's surface. I felt as if I was in a sea of magic, a world beyond human understanding.

As the jellyfish-like creatures ascended higher, their beauty intensified. The vibrant hues of blue and purple mingled with the soft pink and gold, creating an enchanting display that took my breath away. Their long tentacles swayed like the ebb and flow of the ocean's tides, casting shadows on the surface of the water below.

I was struck by the otherworldly beauty of these creatures and wondered what they were called.

Were they the guardians of the sea?

I wanted to reach out and touch them, to feel the magic that surrounded them.

As I watched them disappear into the distance, their luminous bodies fading into the night, I realized that this was just the beginning of my journey in this bloody yet beautiful world.
