Adela was contemplating something as she continued to stare at Richard, then she abruptly grasped his neck in her hands and closed her eyes. Richard suddenly caught his breath because of Adela's behavior, but he knew Max would be lost if he stopped moving. Despite his heart's knowledge of what was going on, he continued to move forward. Richard didn't expect it from Adela. How daring she was! Because he was the one who initially took the risky action and there was no use in saying anything to Adela, Richard chose not to say anything further about it. Max and Adela caught Richard's attention in every way. He didn't understand why he didn't like them conversing with each other. Could it be because he's envious? But why, exactly?
He just found Adela's accompaniment to be pleasing. Adela's embrace, though, made him want to hug her even more. He was trying to stop himself from gnashing his teeth.
