Chapter 9 - VideoGame

A boy named Raini Katachi sits in line for days waiting to buy a new V.R. game console.

The fervor of suspense fills the air in the minutes leading up to the stores opening. The talking of other fans surrounds the main character as he slowly and casually attempts to cut the line, only for him to be caught and for his spot to be stolen in line.

He attempst to reclaim his spot, but no dice. "Fuck!" he angrily cries as he walks off.

He mumbles to himself and walks away, kicking rocks across the pavement. He crosses the street, not paying attention to the suspiciously familiar truck barreling towards him.

He looks up at the last moment, and narrowly avoids getting hit. The car needlessly swerves, and implants itself into a tree.

Raini approaches the truck in an attempt to help, but the driver seems fine. As he walks away, a glance at the car reveals the logo of said videogame console he was waiting for.

Before anyone sees he walks and commandeers a station, though he leaves the money for it in its place.

Raini walks into his house. "You're home earlier," his sister notes as he passes her. He picks up an apple and throws it at her, then runs upstairs.

Raini locks his door, and examines the box, his guilt being overshadowed by his excitement. When he looks closer, he realizes that the console is an exclusive bundle one. It comes with an open-world game entitled "Boundless VR".

He sets up the console with little difficulty, then creates his account. Insert Your Name it prompts. After a second he inputs, "-Raika-" and clicks start. Welcome Sir -Raika- it provides, and he delves in.

Raika materialists in a room, lain with a mirror and a pedestal with a book on it. Firstly, he walks to the mirror and sees himself, his real self. He thinks for a second, then makes himself a little taller and slightly adjusts his other characteristics.

Afterwards, Raika approaches the pedestal and sees it's a trait/skill chooser. Awash with difficulty, he first looks through the races - which are elf, giant, human, dwarf, demon, and angel, along with hybrids, which contain the warning that they are more difficult to use.

Unsure, Raika picks human, since its traits are the most balanced. Following with this trend, he evenly allocates his skill points amongst the basic skills. Finally ready for the game, Raika confirms his choice, then deatomizes, leaving him on a loading screen.

Raika is foisted to the ground as the map renders around him. When he looks around a timer floats above him, counting the time for the rest of the map to be unlocked. He explores the starting town, the only area meant to be accessible for now. Above him more people join the world as he explores.

He re-enters the center to find it obtusely crowded. He tries to get past everyone,, when a surge of players arrive, pushing his character against a wall. He gets pushed upon as the people try to disperse and clips through the floor.

When Raika opens his eyes he's falling.

"Ahhhh!" he shouts, and after falling for a while, abrubtly hits the floor.

When he stands up, he holds his head, feeling motionsick from what happened, and sees he's arrived in a room.

Dev Room the wall says. The room is filled with godly-looking items. Raika meanders around the room, inspecting and attempting to pick up items, with very little luck, due to his low level. That is until he comes to a loot box labeled Scrapped Ideas. A warming pops on his screen saying "We thank all players for purchasing the game, but due to an unexpected influx of players, the servers will soon be rebooted." Before Raika can put down the box, his headset flashes "Resetting…" so he stands up and walks to his kitchen.

Raini's dad is preparing a salad and grilled cheeses with ham in them. He sits at the table across fro his sister and passes the time by conversing with her about her day.

The whole family eats dinner and when Raini finishes he thanks his father for the food and rushes to his room.

Raini puts on his apparatus, and reopens "Boundless VR" Once his game has loaded he arrives back in the center of the starting town. The timer has ended and the barrier has been removed, so he's able to leave now if he wants. He covers one of his eyes and it shows him a more detailed version of his interface. It shows that he holds 250 silver, which he decides to use some of immediately.

Raika approaches the merchant district and purchases a chestplate, a weak longblade dagger, and a few potions, but when he opens his inventory to equip everything, he sees something he's not expecting. In his satchel is the scrapped lootbox.
