Chapter 8 - Dimensional fraction

The next day, Vale returned to meet Ms. Rosaline. The female teacher handed him a list of magic techniques that Vale could get for the price of a magic radiation stone.

"You can choose 5 magic techniques level 0 from that list," said Ms. Rosaline.

Vale nodded, and then he read the advantages and disadvantages of each of the magic techniques on the list carefully. It was only after 15 minutes that Vale finally made up his mind.

"I want two attack-type magic techniques called Phantom Hand and Fire Ball Party, a defense type magic technique called Plant Barrier, and then the last two are Reverse Illusion and Spider Dance."

"You chose the magic techniques well. These five magic techniques level 0 were very good compared to other magic techniques level 0." Rosaline nodded, satisfied with Vale's choice.

She marked the names of the five magic techniques that Vale had chosen. At that moment, a magic circle appeared at the top of the list, then five scrolls came out of the magic circle. The magic circle disappeared, and the list of magic techniques was burnt.

Rosaline gave the five scrolls to Vale. Vale received them carefully and kept them in the small pouch he carried without opening them right away.

"Thank you for the help, Ms. Rosaline. Not only for this, but also for all the help you have given me. Without your help, I really couldn't have come this far."

"You're welcome. Your achievement is not only due to my help but also the result of your hard work over the years. By the way, the annual test is only a few days away, and you might not have time to learn all five magic techniques. That's why I suggest learning Spider Dance first. It will be pretty useful for you."

"I'll keep that in mind. See you, Ms. Rosaline."

"See you later."

As Ms. Rosaline had suggested, Vale didn't have much time to learn all the magic techniques he had acquired. Even with the system's help, Vale could only learn three more magic techniques before the annual test took place. Therefore, Vale chose Phantom Hand, Reverse Illusion, and Spider Dance.

In the past two weeks, the fifth-year students were very busy preparing for the annual test. The library was busier than ever, and the training grounds were now filled with fifth-year students, as well as the magic gathering rooms. However, not all of them were desperately practicing to prepare for the annual test. Several fifth-year A-class students who had good talent believed they would pass the annual test without any problems.

Meanwhile, there was also a group of people who had decided to give up on the annual test. They were people who had thought of a way out despite failing the annual test. Marco belonged to this type of student. Vale saw that Marco wasn't prepared for anything, probably because he didn't want to waste the effort since he was 100% ready to become Madam Shirley's slave.

Three days had passed since Vale had received magic techniques level 0 from Ms. Rosaline. The annual test that had been eagerly awaited for the past month had finally come.

On a sunny morning, Vale wore the standard magus robes. He also carried a small bag on his waist. The bag contained some equipment and things that were needed during the test.

"I hope everything goes well," Vale whispered.

The fifth years students had already gathered in a large field. Even though the annual test happened to every student. But the annual test for fifth years students was the most important test because it determines the future of the students, especially for orphaned students like Vale and Marco.

In front of the students who were lining up, the Head of Midvalley Magus Academy, Sir Joseph Putin stood proudly while looking at the fifth-year students. After all of the fifth years students lined up neatly. Sir Joseph Putin began a short speech.

"You have spent five years in this academy. I'm sure you have learned a lot about the world of magus. The world of magus is very dangerous and full of cruelty. Those who join this world unprepared will only become victims of magus cruelty.

This annual test is the most important test for you. In this test there is no limit at all. Murder and all other cruel things are allowed during the test. But don't worry, the Academy will give you a chance to give up before the test takes place.

This test is also a selection, a selection whether you have the capital to stand firm in the magus world or not. The people who were able to pass the test were students who had good potential and bright futures. Meanwhile, for those of you who failed, I can only apologize. At least, you could live your life.

This year's test will be carried out in dimensional fractions. For those of you, who will take the test, please enter the portal that has been provided. For those who want to give up, stay in your place. The annual test officially begins."

10 large portals were created in various directions. Fifth years students flocked to the portal. Vale slowly walked towards the portal. He sensed the chaotic mana of nature on the portal. He then jostled with the other students before finally setting foot into the portal.

Suddenly Vale's environment changed drastically. Vale opened his eyes in surprise. He felt his body fall from a height freely. He looked around, and found that above him, the sky that should have been blue was now a reddish purple. Meanwhile, below him he saw a large island surrounded by water. However, the reddish-purple barrier also blocked the seawater.

"Is this a dimensional fraction?"

Dimensional fraction, according to what he had learned from the academy, dimensional fraction were small parts of a universe that had been destroyed. Dimension fraction was divided into various levels according to the size and resources inside the dimensional fraction.

Vale had read that dimensional fraction was normal for a strong magus or a large organization like Midvalley Academy. There were many uses of dimensional fraction such as treasure warehouses, hiding places, training grounds, and so on. The dimensional fraction that Vale was currently in, most likely just low-quality dimensional fraction used to train students.

As the fifth-year students of Midvalley Magus Academy fell one by one into the seawater, Vale found himself plunging into the waves as well. Without a magic technique that could make him fly, he knew he had no choice but to swim to shore. After a few moments of struggling against the churning waters, Vale finally made it to safety. To his relief, he found himself alone on the beach, with no other students in sight.

Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Vale reached into his pocket and pulled out a small ball, roughly 10 cm in diameter. The ball had materialized when Vale transferred to this dimensional fraction, and as he held it in his hand, he felt a rush of information flood his mind.

The ball, he realized, was a point ball - a crucial tool for the current test that would determine the students' rankings at the academy. To accumulate points, the students had to defeat monsters and wild beasts scattered throughout the island, with each creature worth a different number of points based on its strength. Alternatively, they could steal points from other students by taking their point ball and saying "transfer."

As Vale contemplated his next move, he felt a surge of determination. He might have fallen into the water at first, but he wouldn't let that setback stop him from succeeding in this test. With renewed energy, he set out to explore the island, eager to prove his worth and climb the ranks of Midvalley Magus Academy.
