A woman stands in front of me. She has beautiful transparent wings jutting from her back. From the way her lips move, she is speaking to me. What can she be saying? I can make out only one word before falling into a deeper sleep.
Waking up after a goodnight sleep feels really refreshing. I sit up and stretch my arms above my head. That dream felt so realistic, and her wings seemed familiar. Maybe I've seen a magical creature like that before? What was she saying? In front of me, on her side of the room is Amelia, already dressed for the school day.
"Hey you're up!" She says as she stands up from putting books inside her bag. "I have cleaning duty this morning so I can't show you the homeroom. Forgive me?" I nod and let out a sigh as I swing my legs over the side of the bed. She sends me a big wave of her hands and with that cheerful call, she leaves. Guess it's time for me to get ready as well.
I look over at my desk and see the rose and glass. Maybe I'll press this and put it in the glass bookmark. I think it would be a wonderful charm to carry around with me. I take a few moments to do so, then I put it down back on the desk. I pull on my uniform and shoes, put my hair in a messy bun, and put make up on. I grab my now glowing charm and shove it into my pocket. Last is my bag and I am on my way to my homeroom. To my surprise, Amelia left out my class books. I guess I won't feel like an idiot for showing up with none.
Now that I have the map and can read it, finding my class building is gonna be easy. I glide down the hall, passing other young girls my age, then down the stairs. I decide to stop by the breakfast room in the dorms and quickly eat a bowl of cereal and a banana. The air is nice and cool, while the sun is already beating down with intense heat. The grass is a perfect green, and the flower bushes add the perfect color coordination. What wonderful weather to start my first day on!
"Freya," before I can answer, Jin stands directly in front of me, causing me to almost trip forward.
"Oh Jin! Hi, good morning." I bow slightly with a cheeky smile across my lips. Jin is dressed in her school uniform and her hair is slicked back to a perfect style, showing she has a perfect symmetric head. She sure is cute. She looks like she could be a famous celebrity.
"Did you sleep well Freya? By the way you look, you seem pretty thick headed."
"Why yes. Thank y-" I pause and look at her, my cheery expression changing to offense. "Hey I am not. And what do you mean by 'the way I look'?" I put my hands on my hips and look her directly in the eyes. I can see her flinch ever so slightly as my tone of voice rises.
"S-sorry. I just tend to say what comes to mind, if you remember." Her response makes my blood boil.
"Hey now, that was not an apology at all! And plus I have a delicate side as well you know." I straighten up, trying to show her that side of myself. "Really, like what?" I can hear the playfulness in her words and it almost makes me smile. "Well," I take a moment to think. "Right now I'm nervous! It is my first day." .
"Everyone is nervous on their first day. I don't remember if I was, but I'm sure anyone else here was for sure. There are quite a few first years here this year, but they started months ago. You'll have to catch up quickly on studies if you want to succeed." Her words seem to come from a place of sincere advice, but also like she's saying I'm slow and I'm going to be slow. But that's only from my impression. Someone else could take her words entirely differently. I check my watch and feel my heart drop.
"Oh no, I'm gonna be late on my first day. I classes right here in this building, but I don't see it anywhere close by." I can feel the panic begin to rise up in my throat and my heart beating uncontrollably.
"I can show you where to go if you're in such a hurry." She turns her body to look at the map in my hands. After taking a moment to look, she starts walking to our right near the east side of campus. Luckily there is a sidewalk going in almost every direction.
After walking for roughly eight minutes, we finally show up at the building Jin is leading us to. "Well here we are. If I'm right, first year classrooms are on the 2nd floor, up the stairs. Should be 24A or 24B." With a sigh of relief, I take in the building's structure and design so I can remember it. "Thanks so much. I'm sure I would've gotten lost if it hadn't been for you." I take another bow in front of her. Her cheeks reddened up a tad.
"You're welcome. I'll be going up the stairs to the 3rd floor. See you." Before I can say another word, she is already inside the building and heading to class. Nervousness becomes more aware of my body as I start walking by myself. First impressions are always important, and I want to make a good one. I want to be seen as a smart witch, not someone who got here on a whim. But that's truly the question isn't it. Who signed my name up? Who paid for my tuition? Let alone, who is it in general? As I walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, my head starts to spin. I feel as if I might feint and throw up at the same time.
Just as I reach the second floor, a deep masculine voice comes from behind me. "Freya Bell." I stop in my tracks and turn around to see a harsh blonde man standing there. He is very handsome, with not even the slightest slack in his posture. His eyes are a perfect lavender, and his hair is cut high and tight, but his bangs shag over his eyes a tad. I can't help but blush at him. "Yes, that's me."
"I am Kyle Jacobson, a prefect here. I've come to escort you to your classroom." I stand still and silent for a moment. He's very intimidating, and reformed. He obviously comes from a very high standard family. "You are?" I finally manage. "And what is a prefect?" The look of utter astonishment covers his entire face.
"A prefect is a student representative. We manage students, organize events, and give lessons from time to time. Otherwise, our obligations are identical to regular students. Now come with me." He starts to turn away and walk down the opposite way of my classroom. Standing here, I'm not sure if I should follow him or not.
"Come with me, now." His voice is stern and almost forceful. I can't help but shrink back, getting the feeling that I really don't have much of a choice. Just where is he going to take me? I decide not to think much more of it and follow him. Standing behind him is rather interesting. He seems to be 10 times taller than I am, and it doesn't help that his posture is 100% perfect. Though, I'm not sure why so I'm fixated on that detail. After walking down to the other side of the long hallway, he stops and turns around to face me.
"Here we are," he says as I gently stop at a large double door. I look at him with confusion and before I can ask what he means, he has knocked on the door twice. "Enter," a voice says from inside. I can't hear how the voice sounds, but I can tell someone is expecting us. With that, he turns the door knob.
