Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

I seem to wander for ages before I stop and take a big sigh. Lost twice in one day. If I can't even figure out this map, how am I going to figure out magic lessons? I can't help but feel my entire body being dragged down by despair and ruin. I have no idea what to do, or who to talk to. I can't even find the admissions office. Walking further along, I find myself standing in the middle of the road. A gust of wind swoops my hair over my head and practically knocks me off my feet.

I turn around to find the source of the wind is a man standing behind me. His skin is pure and white, long flowing silver hair, and crimson eyes. He looks like a porcelain doll, made to perfection. I can't help but stare at his dazzling beauty. "Who are you?" His voice almost feels like a boom in my chest, and I feel my heart strings pull.

"My name's Freya Bell. I'm a new student at the academy." I stand up straight and fix my hair in the process. "Are you a student here?" I ask with enthusiasm. "Student?" The tone to his voice, and the word student being said as a question, answers mine. So he isn't a student of the academy. Great. Now I can't ask him for directions either.

"So what are you doing here?" He calmly asks me, taking a few steps towards me.

"I'm lost. My guide gave me this map, and I can't read it. So now I'm in a bind and I'm just looking for some help to find where the girls dorms are." I take a breath and look at the man. His face is stone cold, like he's a living doll. But I can feel his magical pressure. Most wizards and witches give off magical pressure. And depending on how strong it is, can determine how strong the person is in their magical arts. If I were to guess, mine would be way below average.

The man looks me up and down before turning and walking away. "Hey wait!" But to no avail, he is gone. Just puffed into the air like Mr. Letter did. Despair hitting my emotions once again, I decide to head in the direction he went in. Before continuing my journey, something shiny on the gravel road, where the man stood, catches my attention. I crouch down and find a white flower, glowing like a gem, with rainbow light surrounding it.

Did that man drop it? Did it belong to him? Well whoever it belongs to must miss it. It seems to be a rare species and it should not just lay here in the middle of the road. I pick it up and place it into my bag, then head down the road once again. But time seems to fly by again, because before I know it, I'm in a completely different part of the campus. Standing before me is a building made out of pure glass. It is so shiny and so clear, I swear I am looking into a healing crystal.

I circle the building till I find the main entrance. As I walk in, I am greeted with beautiful fragrances, and the whole color spectrum. A giant glass greenhouse, full of exotic plants, with some I've never even seen before. What does this school not have? Walking through in total amazement, I don't notice right away, there is a woman standing near me. Her hair is short and black, and she seems to be wearing the same uniform I am. But that's not what puts me off.

Her right eye is red like garnet, and her left is the color of turquoise. Heterochromia! I have only seen it in books and heard about it through rumors in my village, but never in person. I am taken back by her stunning eyes. She's just my height, same body build too. But it seems she's more developed in 'certain departments'. I feel my cheeks flush. "You," the girl says as we lock eyes. For some reason I feel a sense of nostalgia. I swear I've seen her before, but that can't be. She's never been through the village, and I only just got here. Just where have I seen her? Another weird moment of deja vu.

I break the silence as I straighten my posture. "Hello there. Are you a student?" Her gentle nod sends electricity through my body. Finally, I think to myself. I can put an end to this foolishness of being completely and utterly lost. "My name is Jin. May I inquire about yours?" She speaks like a gem. "Yes I'm sorry. My name is Freya." She walks closer to me, slightly eyeing me up and down.

"I've never seen you before. But you seem to be wearing my uniform."

"Yes, I am new here. It just happens to be my first day and I've found myself to be quite lost. I received a map but I can't seem to read it." She looks at me with some suspicion, but nods in acknowledgement. "I see. Where are you looking to go?" I pick up my chin and smile brightly. "I've been looking for the girls dorm." I awkwardly stand there as she stands next to me. I can't help but feel insecure next to her. But I notice her eyes glancing over at my face.

"Well you should've received a map from the acceptance letter." She looks at me, then to my hands where the map lays. "It is upside down. So you're an idiot then?" I stare her straight in the eyes, as soon as she spoke her words aloud. I place my hands on my hips and begin to tap my foot. "That was very rude. You could've been a lot kinder there Jin." She turns slightly away, kind of staring off to a small distance. I've only just met her, and I'm scolding her. Gosh mom, you need to come down from heaven and save me from my own stupidity.

"I'm sorry. I tend to just say what comes to mind. I don't feel the need to filter what I think in front of others." I lighten up a little bit at her words, but I can still feel my face heat up with anger. She did apologize, but I'm still irked at what she said. I'm not an idiot. I just wasn't instructed on how to use the map, let alone how to read it in the first place. I'm practically in a foreign country from where I am used to, and I didn't get much help. "Well," her voice brings me out of my inner thoughts and draws me back to the present. "If that is the case, then I will take you to the dorms. But we should hurry, because it will be curfew soon." Before I can say anymore, she takes my hand and leads me away.
