Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

As I wake up and let out a big yawn, I see that the room is dark and the shades are closed. Amelia isn't here, and neither is her school stuff. I look at the clock, and let out a sigh of relief. I still have an hour before school starts. I wonder where Amelia went so early that I didn't even hear her leave. I pull myself together, then get up to get dressed. On top of my desk is a hot breakfast burrito, and a pink sticky note.

Here is some delicious food. Sorry I had to retake a test before school. See you later! -Amelia

I let out a small laugh, then I sit down to eat. With 30 minutes left to go after eating and getting dressed, I head on my way to class. Last night was the same exact dream, and every time I wake up from that dream, I don't feel good. Or maybe the reason why I'm not feeling good is because of what happened with Victor. He just up and left, and there is no way to just bring up why he left. Plus what happens if the reason is me?

"Freya," says Jin as I almost ran into her. I guess she knows where to wait for me in the morning, which makes me feel better. Having her here is really comforting. "Good morning Jin. Guess we can make meetings here a regular thing?" I smile at her, trying not to show my discomfort about what I've been thinking about.

"I like the sound of that. We meet up right here at this spot waiting for the other so we can walk together." She lets off a smile that lightens up her eyes. This time it's wide and completely genuine. She truly looks happy at the idea, which makes me blush a little. I'm glad she cares and it makes her happy to hang out with me.

"Of course - ," before I can finish my sentence, I'm cut off.

"Hey you two! What's good!" Victor's voice comes booming from behind me, and I feel my heart leap up into my throat, then back down again. Jin's smile dims down a little, but she still smiles. I guess she's gotten used to him interrupting our conversations. "Good morning Victor," I say in a hushed tone and not looking him directly in the eyes.

"You're up early today Victor," Jin says. "And you even look awake as well." A smirk crosses her lips, and I can hear the playfulness in her voice. She's teasing him, but it's a good kind of tease. I guess she doesn't feel hostile towards him anymore. Which is a sudden change. A really sudden and random change.

"I had some things to take care of and look into." He put his hands on the back of his neck and looked at me. I want to ask him about yesterday... But I'm too afraid... Plus Jin is right there.

"Hey Freya, you okay? You're a little lacking in the energy department. Do you have a fever? Or.." he steps closer to me and I can feel my hair standing up on the back of my neck. I can't help but feel slightly afraid of him now. He places his hand on my forehead, and it makes my face feel like it's on fire from my chin to the top of my head. "Doesn't seem like you have a fever. But still, are you alright?" I take a glance over at Jin, almost like I am searching for her to answer for me. But she just stands there, watching Victor and I. There still seems to be a twinge of jealousy in her eyes and smile. Her smile is no longer a smile; more of a smirk and half frown.

"I - I'm fine. Really I am." I take a step back from his hand, but he moves along with me. "Are you sure? Because it seems like your face has gotten redder." He moves to put his hand against my forehead again, but I dodge by raising my hand to my forehead first. "I'm fine! I really am fine! I just... I stayed up talking to my roommate for a long time, so I'm just sleepy." I smile my fake smile and that seems to please not only Victor but Jin as well, who seems to be showing concern for me too.

I shouldn't be surprised at Victor's behavior. He's caring and thoughtful of others. But what bothers me is he isn't bothering to explain yesterday, or let alone even talk about it. I watch him walk away towards class, and Jin follows behind. It takes me a minute to follow, because now all the trust I put into him in these last 3 days, has really changed because of last night. He almost feels like a stranger; and I guess he still is in all reality. But I still, finally, follow along with them to class.

Stopping at the bottom of the stairs, Jin turns around to look at me. "Well I'll just head off to my class from here." She lightly grips my hand, then takes her leave. Victor lets out a big sigh and smiles at me. "Me too. I'm teaching a class first thing today. Good luck in the class Freya." He pats me on the head and leaves me standing there by myself. I was going to ask him about yesterday once Jin left, but I guess I don't have to anymore. He's acting normal as if yesterday didn't transpire. I slump my head, then go up the stairs to class.

Walking into class feels more natural today, and more welcoming. I take my normal seat when Edward comes up to me. He seems like himself, with a small kiss mark from Lisa on his cheek. I look up at him with a smile. "Good morning Edward." He takes a bow toward me. "Good morning Freya. How are lessons going? Keeping up? If there is anything you need help with, you can always come my way." With his tone of voice, he sounds almost flirtatious. I can't help but feel uneasy. He's also talking way too fast.

"It's really no big deal. It sure is hard, but I think I have a handle on it." I shyly look down at my notebook on my desk, trying to ignore him. "Morning," a voice speaks up and I lift my head up. Landon sits at the desk he uses. His eyes seem to sink into my soul through my own eyes. He has a small smirk on the corner of his lips. "Used to things around here yet?" He asks politely as he takes out his textbooks and notepad.

"Yes I am. Thank you for asking me that." We all share small giggles and small talk for a few minutes before Lisa comes in with her arms swinging around Edward's neck. "Good morning everyone. Nice to see you Freya," she says as she gives me a playful wink. I let out a small choked laugh.

Cute as ever those two. I wish that one day, I can have love like that. "Looking cute as ever love," Lisa says as she shoots me another wink. I can feel my face heat up as she teases me in front of the guys around us. Edward goes to the front of the classroom to take the name roll, while Lisa pulls up a seat close to me, and lowers her voice to a whisper.

"So I talked to Victor yesterday on my way back to the dorms. He seemed off. Like something is bothering him. I mean think about it," her voice goes even lower. "It's weird to get a visiting student on training or whatever, in the middle of a school year." Her eyes look at me with intensity, and I feel a small drop of sweat go down my brow. Edward cuts back into the conversation in the blink of an eye, barely giving me time to react.

"Well it is rare. But what makes you think he's off?" All these words between the two of them makes me feel off myself. How did he become the subject we are talking about? I take a glance at Edward, then back at Lisa. "Well, think about it babe. He's from a lab right? But he won't tell us what lab and from what town. And whatever he's researching is strictly 'business'. And he's studying white magic here of all things. Why is that?" Her voice trails off as she talks more about how he's very well trained and skilled in offensive magic. Which is true. We know nothing about him. I know nothing about him. And I am already falling in love with him, I guess.
