Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

"Rubbish Lisa," Edward raises his chin a bit. "You're thinking too much into this. Must you always set your mind on such nonsense?" Lisa kisses his cheeks and Edward's face fumes.

"I'm much more fun this way, you know that." I can see how playful she is, and how much it affects him. He must truly love her to put up with her teasing. I can barely handle some compliments, let alone love like this. Landon seems to be paying more attention to our conversation than I realize. But he never asks any questions or really says anything. He just wants to be a part of whatever we are doing. His wolf lies down by his feet, looking up at me. I give him a little wave. "Woof woof hi there," he says to me. "Hello there," I say back. The wolf looks surprised to see I understand him, and so does Landon. But he doesn't say anything about it.

"What do you think about him, Freya?" Lisa and Edward say in unison. I can feel my face grow red, and a small bead of sweat on my brow.

"I think you're looking too deeply into it. Besides, it's too much pressure on someone to get them to talk about themselves like that. You know, out in the open with a bunch of strangers they might never see again." They both gave an acknowledging nod in my direction, then at each other. I clear my throat and stare at them intently. "I don't mean to sound rude in any way, I just don't think it's okay to make assumptions about people and talk about them like they are a suspicious criminal." I can see their playful and thoughtful expressions disappear. I didn't mean to ruin their fun, but I just don't want them talking about Victor.

"I didn't mean to say anything bad honey," Lisa finally breaks the awkward silence that falls over us. "I just think he might be hiding something important." With those words, the bell rings and Lisa is darting out to get to her class.

She has a point. I mean, he does act that way. Plus whatever I saw last night just puts more evidence on Lisa's words. I don't want her to be right.

I drift off into my own world of thinking before Edward, who is still standing in front of me, cuts in. "Don't listen to her Freya. You and Victor seem to be good friends, so I'm sure that was uncomfortable for you to hear." I put my hand over his and gave it a small squeeze as a thanks. Edward heads over to his seat as the classroom door swings open, and a familiar face comes in.

"Headmaster?" My voice breaks out over the silence, since no one else seems to have the courage to say it out loud. He turns and looks at me. I can feel his intense handsome eyes on me, like the gaze could cut through me. "Ah, the new student. Are you used to the ways of the academy yet? You look quite taken aback. Is there something wrong?" His lush voice seems to smooth over the other girls in the room.

"No, not at all! I'm just wondering why you are here." I slightly bury my face behind my hands.

"Oh I see. Well I'm here to teach you all today." Everyone is gasping and mumbling to each other. "Yes class, even the headmaster teaches classes. I can teach the history of wizardry, barrier magic, and magical creatures. So I look forward to working with all of you." Everyone explodes with excitement and questions begin to bounce off the walls, almost out of control. And here I thought that the only thing headmasters did was answer parent letters, take care of bills and paperwork, and never leave their office.

The smile on his face as each of my classmates start to ask him questions seems to make him super happy, and small laughs escape his lips. If I am completely honest, I am excited about what he'll teach us today as well.
