Chapter 69 - Adaptability

But of course, Somi knows that it wasn't the case, in the eyes of people too, the Beast Race is the currently strongest Race to ever live in the Immortal Realm, but that is due to the feats of her Mother and sisters did. Of course, it is still true that the Beast Race is very powerful, and according to the books that she had read, the Beast Race ranks 4th of the strongest Race in general. But would she say this thing to them, the answer would be obviously no since no one would believe her anyway.

As for Mio, she will learn it the hard way, the moment she steps into the Immortal Realm and actually fights the different Races there, she will know that the Beast Race isn't the strongest.

"Continuing with that, let me ask you this question, does this school teach students how to fight properly?" Mio was curious as of course she didn't know if the Academy already started to teach them this kind of thing because she knew that the earlier it was, the better since they would have more time to hone their powers.

"We will actually just start now, Teacher Mio. Because if I am correct, Academies wouldn't teach students yet how to fight or have exams of such, at least not until they are a second year, like us." Xian'er answered with what she knew and her answer made Mio frown a little because she felt that they had such little time to learn how to fight.

"Alright, then I'll ask all of you another question. At most, what is the hardest battle that you have fought? Is it a spar with other students?" Mio asked as she now began to understand the situation and to say that she was disappointed is an understatement.

In a world like this, learning from an early age is everything that they need, even if it sounds cruel because ultimately everyone would encounter it. So for Yuki, if they are already at age 12, they should start sparring already with one another. So if they are just only starting now at the age of 16 and above, they are late for four years already.

As Mio expected, all of them said yes, except for her students who came from a pretty high noble family, but they were just a handful at most. They consist of Xian'er, Sana, Jun-Seo, Tanaka Kosei, and Nakamura Chitose. All of them said that they had fought a Gate more than once already, but it was just a low-rank Gate of course, but it was still enough to satisfy Mio.

"That's good at least, at least now I know that you have an edge against some other students. But of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that all five of you are already better than your classmates. Because at the end of the day, every person almost reacts differently when they are exposed to a Gate." Mio said as she then turned around and wrote one word on the board.

"What was your first experience when you saw a Gate for the first time?" Mio simply asked while covering the word that she wrote with some little Magic so that no one could see what she wrote just yet.

"Teacher Mio, for me it was nervousness and fear because it was my first time seeing a Gate in real life," Chitose gave out her experience to everyone to which the other four couldn't help but agree since that is also what they felt when they first saw a Gate in person.

"That's just normal, but what happened when you saw another one after that? Did something change?"

"No, not really. It was still the same, I was still pretty terrified because at that point, I was or I should say we have never really experienced something like that in our life." Chitose spoke for the rest of them.

"Ah, that is still considered normal since all of you are young. Now this is why I said that not because you have already fought with Gate monsters, some of you will have different reactions when seeing a Gate. As for you guys, you said that you were terrified when you saw one, but some people will have a different reaction." Mio said before finally revealing the word to everyone.

"But at the end of the day, every single living being in this world would want to survive. This is when this will come into play, Adaptability. Because like I said, every being in this world wants to survive, so of course they will do anything. Just like what happened with ours, everyone needed to quickly adapt to what was happening around them to survive, now do you want to hear a fun fact about adaptability?" Mio said before taking a quick pause to sit at her table before continuing.

"Did you know that when the Gates first started appearing, the ones who were ahead in life at that time were the criminals who were killed? The reason is actually very simple, it's because they already know what it is to kill. As for the other people, they needed to adapt the hard way just to survive, it was hard for them, but they couldn't do anything since they were weak." Mio took another quick pause before taking a serious look and continuing again.

"Now the only thing that I'm trying to say is, if you can quickly adapt to your surroundings, you will have a better chance to survive in this cruel world. I'm not saying that you should kill a bunch of people because that will just do the opposite, but if you know someone who have a lot of experience. Ask for their advice and it is better if you ask them if they have a strong bloodlust or killing intent, if they do, you can ask them if they can expose you to it. Believe me when I say this, a person who has felt death and survived from it, is in a different league."
