In all our various Peristylia, we expanded our Agriculture and Architecture allowing us to create Custom Habitats for our Plants and Animals each with its own set of Custom Seasons designed to suit the peculiar needs of a specific Plant or Animal Variety. Insects that contributed to Pollination and were at the same time not harmful to Crops were bred with Flowering Crops or Fruit Crops. These insects were also determinants to when and how large a harvest would be. The Seasons were aligned such that each Crop would bear Fruits during a particular month thus Fruits could be harvested from the entire Farm virtually throughout the year.
Sea Water could be used to Water the Plants through special pumps that connected the Sea to the Farms aboard the Islands. When the Sailors needed fresh Water, they'd resort to distillation. The left over Salt could then be used for cooking. With regards to Keiran and Concordia's Pilots, they utilized special devices to extract Hydrogen and Oxygen from the Atmosphere which could be combined through Chemistry to create Water. They could also utilize siphons to harvest atmospheric vapour from clouds and then condense it through cooling devices and thus extract Water.
Thanks to these processes, they now had a virtually limitless Supply Of Food and Water. Our Transparent Islands and how widely they were separated from one another prevented us from interfering with the Marine Food Chain as well as the Rain Cycle so all the Water we utilized would eventually return to the atmosphere and the Cycle would perpetuate itself.
We could explore indefinitely however, we still lacked adequate means of mapping our surroundings. We could only map areas our position overlapped with. As such, we could only explore areas we had once been to and we could only explore in the Daytime. Attempting to explore at Night could result in a crash with some obstacle in our blindspots. Ironically though, Nighttime was the most opportune moment to explore and discover new settlements. This was so because the Lighthouses and any other Light Sources would be most visible at Night thus our Lighthouses were at the moment not of much use.
"We'll need to invent a means through which we can map our surroundings even at night" Concordia said one day.
"Well, one of my Dad's training novels said that this could be achieved by matching Wavelengths with another person or one's surroundings. Perhaps, by conceptualizing the process, we might be able to replicate it" Keiran suggested.
"I see. It's worth a shot" Concordia agreed.
Keiran extended his aura and matched it to the Wavelength of the surrounding air and realized that his range of vision expanded. He attempted matching his temperature to that of his surroundings and achieved the same result. He smiled.
"Concordia, you've heard of the Law Of The Conservation Of Energy right?" Keiran asked Concordia.
She nodded.
"It states that Energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transformed from one state to another" Concordia stated.
"Exactly, echolocation utilized by Bats and most Whales in a sense revolve around this principle" Keiran said.
"Really? I know that Bats and Whales generate high pitched sounds which echo off obstacles and thus allows them to conceptualize the mass of the obstacle" Concordia said.
"Exactly, the process begins with Sound Energy but concludes with Light Energy. Sound Energy is converted to Light Energy to generate a graphical representation of the conceptual mass of the obstacle. However…the process is not necessarily limited to Sound Energy. It can be applied to other forms of energy as well. After we invent the means to convert other forms of energy to Light Energy, we'll then be able to detect obstacles through variations in the converted energy and by cross referencing the mass of the obstacle, measure it against the rest of the specified form of energy in our surroundings" Keiran explained.
"I see, so that's how Sonar and Radar Systems work right?" Concordia asked.
"Exactly" Keiran nodded.
"So how do we go about it? Are we actually going to invent such a means?" Concordia asked.
"Unfortunately, though I understand the concept, I'm not much of a Mechanic. I'll make the conceptual knowledge available to our Peristylium for now until I can come up with some ideas" Keiran said and used the Gemini System to assign a new skill to the Peristylium under the name of 'Energy Conversion'.
"This way, at the very least, the entire Peristylium now has a conceptual understanding of the concept and can utilize it as a Special Skill. What we currently lack is the means to convert that Skill into a Technological Tool in order to minimize our MP use" Keiran explained.
Concordia sighed.
"We definitely have our work cut out for us now don't we?" she said.
Keiran nodded.
"The sooner we get started the better" he said.
