Chapter 2 - First Term: Routine

July's POV:

My alarm blurted out loudly, and I quickly shut it off. Looking over at Tammy, I just managed to see her turn her back towards me and pull the blanket over her head.

Yup, definitely no morning person.

I sat up in my bed and stretched myself. Then standing up to take a look out of the window. The sun was already above the horizon and a few birds flew by. The way the sun sparkled in the fountain looked almost too picturesque. I was also able to spot that tall black guy running laps in the yard. Guess he was an early riser too. The warm glow of the sun the chirping birds and the last few stars slowly fading in the sky ... I was a morning person through and through.

Mornings at the boarding school ... ARE THE WORST!

Don't get me wrong. I still didn't mind waking up early to get ready for school. I even got up one hour before the classes started, so I had plenty of time to go through my usual routine. Nothing extreme there. Just the normal stuff. Getting a nice shower, brushed my teeth, got dressed, and put on makeup. The usual typical girl stuff.

But the dorm showers were crowded as hell. Even being that early, all showers were taken up already. And five other girls were waiting for their turn in front of me. Seriously, who installs six showers for a whole dorm of girls? Bad planning, that's what I call it.

I kept checking my watch constantly while I was waiting, just to see the minutes running down slowly and not much of the situation changing. Deciding not to want to waste too much time, I began by brushing my teeth, so I could at least make use of the waiting time. But even when I was done, none of the showers was free. I kept waiting till I had only half an hour left before I just decided to take a shower in the evening.

Heading back to the room to get dressed, I saw Tammy still laying in her bed. For a moment I hesitated to change that. But then again, she did ask me to make sure she gets up. I walked over and began to very gently shake her.

She groaned and pulled her sheets closer, "Just five more minutes, mom."

"I'm not your mother, Tammy. It's Monday and we have classes today. I'm sure you don't want to be late on your first day, right?" I replied with a slight chuckle.

"Nothing happens on the first days. Just let me sleep."

"I'm going to give you ten seconds before I just rip those sheets off you, Tammy," I answered with a stern face.

Seeing her not react to it at all I waited, counting silently in the beginning, "Three, Two,-"

"I'm awake." Tammy suddenly sat up in her bed looking at me quite shocked and with a small pout.

"Good," I said with the sweetest smile I could put on and walked over to my closet to get dressed.

I decided to choose the dark blue blazer for the day and laid all of it out on the bed. Slowly stripping out of my pajamas, which were just an oversized T-shirt and a pair of loose boxers, I slipped on my underwear and pulled up the socks and skirt. While I was still buttoning up my blouse, I saw Tammy just standing there out of the corner of my eye. As soon as I looked up at her, she was beginning to get dressed too.

Seems like someone is a little slow in the mornings.

Checking my watch again, I still had like twenty minutes left after being fully dressed, so I began to brush my hair out, hoping to get it somewhat straight. There was just this one annoying strand of hair right beside my face that always decided to stay curled. After putting on some light makeup, I looked over to check on Tammy again. She was sitting on her bed and slipping on her shoes. I couldn't help but smile at the fact that she chose the same version of the uniform as I did.

Once she was finished and standing up, she placed her headphones around her neck and looked over, "Do we have time for breakfast?"

Checking my watch, I answered, "Maybe a quick coffee to go and a muffin? And with coffee, I mean hot chocolate in my case."

Tammy began chuckling, "Yeah, I dig hot chocolate a lot more than coffee anyway."

Together we headed towards the cafeteria and got there rather quickly. Professor Dearborn ... I mean, Drew was standing at the coffee machine watching the dark brown liquid pour into his oversized mug. He was in the same attire as yesterday and still without shoes.

"Good morning, Mr. Dearborn," I said with a smile plastered on my face.

He didn't react to it and just kept staring at his mug. Tammy and I looked at each other a bit confused, and I shrugged.

"Good morning Drew?" Tammy tried this time.

He just raised one hand in a gesture of trying to get us to keep quiet. Both of us just looked at him, a bit dumbfounded, and didn't say another word. He took up his mug and took a long sip of the probably boiling coffee. Closing his eyes afterward, he took in a long breath to smell the aroma of his coffee. As he turned around I was finally able to see his mug. On it was a very tired-looking smiley face with the quote 'If this is full, I'm too tired for this shit'. He blinked slowly a few times, and a smile began to appear on his lips.

"Good morning to you two girls. I hope you had a pleasant first night here." his warm deep voice already made me forget his earlier weirdness.

"Y... Yes, we did. Thank you." I stuttered out, still a bit weary, though.

"Good. Good. Don't be late to homeroom class today." He said while walking towards the door, stopping after a few steps. "And don't bother talking to me before I had my morning coffee. I'm a zombie without it."

He walked out chuckling and left Tammy and me staring after him.

"Teachers here surely are weird," Tammy said with a slight shake of her head.

"At least he's nice normally," I replied with a shrug. "Hot chocolate time now?"

"Make it an extra large."

...

Breakfast was pretty uneventful and quick, so we would be able to get to the class in time. We didn't have a schedule yet, but from the info in our rooms, we at least knew a vague direction to the classes and that we would start with homeroom today. As the classroom doors came into sight, there were large lists attached to each of the two doors. The list showed the names of students and which homeroom teacher we would be getting for our stay here. To both my and Tammy's obvious enjoyment, we were both put into Drew's class.

Entering the room, we were greeted by the all-familiar smell of coffee. Not sure how Drew managed that, but it was there. A few of the tables were taken already as well.

The two black guys I saw the first day were sitting in the far back corner talking to the two guys in front of them. I had to hold back a chuckle as the taller one's jacket looked like it was close to bursting from his muscles. The smaller one decided to not wear a tie, but instead a gold chain around his neck. The table in front of them was the same guys I saw training with Mr muscle before. The one with long black hair wore a dark jacket, while the blonde wore the reddish one.

The table beside them was taken up by two girls. Both wore darker-styled uniforms. The first one had jet-black hair, with the tips colored a deep blue. She was talking animatedly with the girl beside her. That one had her hair cut shoulder-length and colored a bright cyan color, with the tips being black. I could also see her green eyes since she was the one facing me while talking.

In the front center and alone sat the kinda nerdy looking girl I saw in the yard yesterday. Her dark brown hair was done up in a neat bun. She had her hands folded in front of her and her hands on the table. The thin glasses gave her eyes an almost catlike appearance. Her gaze was also focused straight ahead on the empty blackboard.

Behind her was a girl with nicely tanned skin and long dark hair that flowed over her shoulders in a waterfall of curls. She was leaning forward and showing quite a large amount of cleavage. The blazer was hanging over the back of her chair, so I was able to see her one arm being tattooed with a floral pattern all that reached forward onto the back of her hand.

"Good morning, Tammy. Had a 'hard' night, I assume?" I heard a voice chirp from my right side.

Looking over, I spotted Ally leaning on her desk and smirking at us. The way she emphasized 'hard' was a bit confusing, but I didn't pay much mind to it.

Tammy just rolled her eyes and walked up to Ally's table to take a seat, "Good morning, Ally. And no I didn't. I slept very well."

"Obviously. The question is how much sleep you got." Ally continued and Tammy blushed a bit but rolled her eyes.

I just shook my head and took a seat at the table right in front of them, "How was your night, Ally?"

She looked at me, seemingly a bit irritated that I would address her, but then shrugged, "So, so I'd say. My roomy is a bit ... let's say noisy."

I was about to ask her what that means when two more girls walked into the room. One had long straight brown hair and wore a pinkish uniform. She scanned the room and walked over to where the cyan haired and her friend were sitting.

"Excuse me." she addressed the cyan-haired girl. "If you don't mind, I would like to sit here."

"How comes? There are plenty of free seats. Just sit somewhere else. Can't you see we are talking?" she retorted.

The other girl was smiling widely, but I noticed that she was starting to be a bit pissed, "But I want to sit here."

Is she willing to start a fight over that?

"You both could have my table if you like. I don't mind sitting somewhere else." I tried to suggest.

Such a bitchy attitude and whining over small things tended to get on my nerves, so I tend to try and stop fights before they get out of hand.

"Too bad, but I'm sitting here." I didn't even notice the other girl sitting down beside me.

As I stared at her, a small smile crept into her features. Her short hair was done up. Her rectangular glasses were sitting at the very tip of her nose, and the way she stared into my blue eyes with her smoky gray ones gave me small chills.

"Guess you will have to settle for another seat then." the girl sitting beside the cyan haired said.

I could see how the brunette wanted to speak up again when a warm, deep voice broke the silence, "Good morning, students. And welcome to my homeroom."

All eyes turned towards the door where Mr. Dearborn ... Drew entered with a finely made leather briefcase and a smile on his lips.

"Please all of you take a seat, so we can begin." he continued looking at the only girl still standing until she sat down with an annoying expression beside the nerdy girl in the front.

Drew let his gaze wander through the class and spoke up again, "I'm happy to see so many faces ready to learn, and it is my greatest pleasure to welcome all of you to Virgin Hills Boarding school. We will start your first day with me explaining some stuff to you."

His voice had a way of catching my attention, I was so drawn into listening to him.

"Now. All of you are going to be in my homeroom class. Meaning that whenever you have trouble finding your way around or have questions about the school, my office upstairs is your way to go. The way the classes work is pretty simple. It's like most high schools. Most classes you will spend in this exact constellation, with a few exceptions. Those are mainly the different classes in the common arts you chose upon entering the school. Also, you will spend the sports classes together with all students of Ms. Holland's class. Another exception will be the sexual education classes with Ms. Holland and the history classes with Ms. Adams you will meet soon enough." Drew explained to us, and I listened closely to make sure I understood it all.

"The arts program starts with the second term. The first term will be used to get you settled in and focus on the more classical education."

No music for the first term? Damn, that means I will not get to learn what I want to learn most till then. That's annoying.

"Why don't we use the time we have today to get to know our class a little? You will be spending plenty of time together. No better way to make friends than to learn about common interests." Drew went on ahead. "As your homeroom teacher, I will start. As you know, my name is Drew Dearborn, and prefer to be called Drew. I am going to be the teacher of English and creative writing. I am also a published author of two horror books, my favorite genre of media."

"Any volunteers to go on?" he asked and as expected the room stayed quiet. "Figured. So let's just go around. Why don't you start, Mr ... ?"

He eyed the taller black guy in the back, which made him sit up more straight.

"Alright. Well, my name is Tyrone Barkins. Just call me Ty, though. That's way easier. My favorite hobbies are sports and watching movies. I'm here for the acting program. Also took up writing since I figured why not." he ended with a shrug.

"Oh, I know what kind of movies most girls would like to see him staring in." came a whispered remark from the girl beside me.

"Very nice to meet you, Ty. Next one please." Drew went on.

"I'm Alan Jaxton." The slim black guy continued and pointed to his necklace. "In my hood, people call me Ajax though. I'm also the most badass gangster rapper you will ever come across, so my choice of taking music was a given. Also writing since I wanna create some dope rhymes."

This guy sure has confidence.

"I'm also known to be a great ladies' man." he ended with a wink to the dark-haired girl with the tattoo.

The girl beside me scoffed, and to be honest I had to agree. That dude was way too full of himself.

"My name Is Nami Lockwood," the tattooed girl went on, without giving Ajax much attention. " I'm here for the music class and the acting classes mainly. Mainly acting, to be honest, but I do enjoy singing from time to time."

I understood that. Even her normal speaking voice had this very melodic ring to it. As with Ty, I assumed that the guys also would love to see her acting skills in a very specific kind of film. She was sure to turn some heads when she walked down the streets. Yes, I'll admit it. I was way more into girls than into guys.

Tammy got a slight jab in the side from Ally and perked up.

"Uhm ... I'm Tammy. Tammy Jones. I am here for the art class. And for the writing classes. I like music too, but I'm not good with any instrument. I just like to listen to it." she blurted out quickly and then sunk back into her chair a bit, smiling nervously.

"Yeah, I'm Ally. I'm Tammy's twin sister. The slightly older one. To be honest I'm just here because I want to keep my little ... sibling company. Thought I might check out acting and writing while I'm at it, though." Ally continued with an eye roll.

She seemed to be way more outgoing and blunt in her social approaches than Tammy. Also, a lot more confidence, but that in my opinion didn't make her any more sociable. Guess being twins only made you similar in some ways.

"It's nice to see that you all are getting into this more," Drew stated. He then added with a nod toward my seating neighbor, "Please keep on going."

The girl beside me smiled friendly towards the teacher and began talking, "My name is Vivian. Vivian Tailor. I'm here to do the acting classes as well as the creative writing ones. I plan to become a régisseur after finishing this school and make it big in Hollywood. My interests ... well, let's say they are a bit unique. But I'm very curious and open to almost anything."

The way she phrased that last sentence with a short glance to me made me shiver a bit. What was it with that girl? Every gaze of hers seemed to judge me like this was some kind of evaluation.

I barely noticed the silence of it being my turn, but after Tammy cleared her throat behind me, I moved on, "My Name Is Julia Romanov. My friends tend to call me July."

I could suddenly feel a hand resting on my knee.

Is this girl serious? I barely know her name, and she starts to just feel me up like that. Of course, I did not want to just shout at her right here in class on my first fucking day. Okay, let's play it cool and act like nothing ever happened.

"I have many reasons why I wanted to visit this school. The main one though is the music classes. I'm a very passionate guitar player. Not a professional, but I would love to learn more." the hand began to wander up my leg and closer to my center.

She must be crazy! We're in class, goddammit.

"I took up writing for my second subject. Hoping I might learn how to write my songs." I finished and Drew nodded, looking over at the nerdy girl.

Her name was Guinevere, but right now I had other concerns than listening to her rambling on and on about how much she loves school.

"What do you think you're doing?" I addressed Vivian in a barely audible whisper.

"You're better at controlling yourself than I thought," she replied simply, her hand not leaving my leg and wandering to the inside of my thigh.

I could feel my face start to heat up and scowled at her, "Stop that, please. We're in the middle of class."

"You want me to stop ... Fine. Give me your number and I will keep my hands to myself ... for now."

"My ... my number? I'm not going to. Now stop." her hand began to slide under the hem of my skirt, and I froze.

She can't be serious, right? ... Right?

I could feel her fingers sliding closer and closer, and her smile never left her lips. In this situation, I did not see it as friendly though. I felt like a mouse actually and a cat was stalking me with hungry eyes.

She seems damn serious right now. Oh, fuck it.

I hastily ripped a small piece of paper from my notepad and scribbled my phone number on it. As subtly as I could, I slid it over to Vivian. Her eyes scanned over it and her hand left my body. I felt like I could finally breathe again. She slid her phone from her jacket's pocket and dialed it. After a few clicks, my phone began to vibrate in my pocket.

"No tricks, huh?" Vivian whispered again and leaned closer, acting like she was just leaning in to listen to the brunette, Veronica, explain about herself.

"Good girl." at those words, I completely froze up.
