Lexi was sleeping soundly ignoring the fact that Mishti was not in their room. It was around 2 in the night and the guests had already left after the dinner. As Raya instructed , all but Mishti, remained in their quarter.
Steps ahead, Mishti stood outside Karan's room with a confused expression as she heard the weeping sounds. She just woke up to grab a bottle from the kitchen but when she heard these noises from Karan's room, she could not help but be curious and confused about it.
Karan never felt the one to cry.
She knew Raya, too, was inside as her mild voice came from the room as she soothe Karan. She heard the footsteps coming her way so she decided to sat behind the wooden table that was broad enough to hide her fragile body.
As soon as she heard Raya going away and no longer in the sight, she opened the door a little enough for her to examine the scene inside. And as soon as she did, she grasped with shock written on her face.
The room was a total mess, glasses scattered, bedsheets ruined, mirror broken and all the acessories laid in floor in their tiniest parts. It looked as if a tempest had just run through it. Her sight fell in a corner at a specific body ,who probably was the reason of this chaos. Karan.
His body shaked as he tried to hug himself. He was snuggling to himself as he wept. Head covered with his hands that were wrapped around his legs. She noticed the red liquid- blood- dripping from his hands and could not help but sympathise him.
She didn't knew the reason behind his condition but the urge to console him, came naturally. The smirk, she was used to see in his face was what she longed for. She wanted him to call her to bring the coffee. She wanted him to be himself back just like he said to her previous day.
And this urge convinced her frozen legs to move and go for him. And she did. Not caring about the mess she was walking to, she had her eyes fixed on the vulnerable creature who needed nothing but someone who could tell him that he's stronger.
As she reached near him, she could hear him mumbling something to himself.
'I..I deserve this. I..I'm nothing but an ungrateful brat. She's right. I..I am the bad omen.'
Her eyes watered at how low he thinks for himself. He no longer was the man that she knew. He was not a confident person. He was vulnerable and broken. All his attitude was limited to world. It was all fake.
She kneeled in front of him as she tried to intangle his hands with own trembling ones but he had a tight grip. She was failing miserably.
"Karan." She whispered softly but got pushed back in return as karan yelled.
"Go away." He yelled. "Leave me."
Her eyes watered but not because of the pain that she got as a piece of glass pricked her palm but because of the pain that she saw in his eyes. He was crying. Miserably. And uncontrollably.
"See..i..i'm really a ...ba..bad omen. I knew i am." He whispered to himself as he saw blood draining her palm. He tried to snuggle back to himself as it seemed the only way to be away from this world and not let it affect by his misfortune but before he could, a pair of hands stopped him. He looked at Mishti who had tears running down her own cheeks with a look of sympathy. She shook her head signalling him to stop mistreating himself.
She threw the glass from her skin muffling the hiss that tried to skip before looking at him again.
"You..are not a Bad Omen. " She spoke gently wiping his tears. She might not know why he thought himself so low but she still could make him realize his worth. "You..are not a disgrateful brat but the most down-to-earth person."
Karan shook his head, denying her claim and tried to get her off him but only recieved his defeat against her stubborness to not go away.
"You treat Raya like your mot.."
"Don't." Karan , all of a sudden, gritted in anger. His tears turning into fire and broken self to temper. "Don't call her my mother. She is not worth it."
The confusion took place over her heart as she really thought that karan and raya shared a good bond.
"She is far way good than her. Raya is far way good." He whispered.
She knew here her only meant his mother who came tonight here in dinner. She could already tell that she and karan did not shared a mother-son bond but now she was confirmed.
She could even put two and two together and make out what really must have happened.
Today, when Raya asked the staff to be in the staff-quarter, it must be because she knew what's gonna happened. His mother was never being called 'mom' by Karan. He even refused to hug her and merely called her and his younger son as guests because he never considered them a family.
Those two guests must have said something cruel to him that triggered him to break down and thus, he's here now. Maybe that's the reason why Karan was so tensed about today and wanted to do everything right and the guests back as soon as possible to avoid anything that happened.
All the while she thought , she just stared at the figure who was trying to control himself as if aware that he was being exposed to a stranger.
"Karan, i dont know any of the thing you are telling me. Last time, I'm saying, you are not a bad omen. You treat Raya like someone would treat their idol, not like a servant. You even call us your caretakers of your house not as servant that probably the world thinks. " Mishti said in a firm voice while maintaing the eye contact.
"You even go to a three-star cafe when you can easily afford a five-star one. Without any tantrums. " She added. "So stop underrating yourself when you are not. You are not some bad omen, You are Karan. The Karan Kundrra. That all the business world fears to mess with. The karan kundrra. Who has a killer smirk with an absolute handsome face."
She stood up and tried to make his giant body stood up but got only failed. "Get up" she ordered and for the first time, karan actually obeyed. She walked him to a mirror and showed him his condition.
"See, what you are now? A helpless and devastated creature who is no longer The karan kundrra ." She spoke as she saw Karan staring at his own reflection.
"You are letting some strangers and some of the disgusting guests to overpower yourself? Is that all you got? "
"Then, what should i do?" He whispered again.
"Be the one who you are and the next time, when someone tries to defy you, Show them their place that is beneath you." She instructed. "But before that , freshen up because you stink." She said staring at the empty beer bottles in the room.
She found him staring to her and sighed. "What will happen to you, if i'm not there." She dragged him to the bathroom "Freshen up then we'll clean your wound." She said closing the door.
"Be out in ten minutes or i swear to break your jaw." He heard before turning the shower. The water ran rinsing off his tears and blood. The tears did not appeared anymore as he knew what Mishti said was right.
But one thing that remained uncleae was how did He listened to Mishti? How he earned the comfort in her which he yearned? Even Raya could never console him this good?
His mind already was worn out so he decided to let these thoughts wander him some other time.
While he was busy in his shower, Mishti was trying to clean the mess he created. She put all the piece of glasses and beer bottles in a big polythene before Raya cleaned the floor.
Raya appeared in the room with a glass of milk and some tablet before she saw Karan and Mishti standing near the mirror. A soft smile appeared her face at how Karan was listening to Mishti. He no longer cried and tried to be his old good-self. As soon as mishti closed the door and asked him to be out soon, she saw Raya on the door.
"Ra..Raya. i'm sorry. I knew you asked us to be in our rooms bu.." she strated blabbering but was cut in mid.
"Its okay, my dear. Its good that u disobeyed me and consoled him." She smiled. "You distressed me. My old bones already can't manage that giant infant anymore and now i know, u r here."
Mishti thought she joked and chuckled not understanding the hope in Raya's voice. "Oh, lets get this room clean. He must be coming back here soon."
Raya nodded instructing her to clean the glasses carefully and that was when she noticed the bpood in her hands . "Oh my, you also hurted yourself? No worries, here is the first-aid. Come and let me clean you."
"No, raya." Mishti hesitated." I can clean it when i'll bandage his wounds. Lets just clean." She took a breadth of relief when Raya nodded and they went to clean the room.
Now that the room was cleaned and the bed was set, Raya decided to leave but not before giving mishti a task. "These are the sleeping pills that karan will need to sleep."
She left and karan came out in nothing but a towel draped in his lower waist. As Mishti turned to him she turned back with a flushed face. "Get dressed, you idiot."
Karan chuckled at her reaction and walked to his closet. He noticed his room was cleaned. He decided to wear his pants and a t-shirt which was rare but seeing that Mishti was uncomfortable being with him bare, he decided to wear it today.
As she saw him in a casual wears with his messy hairs, she gulped. She had never seen him in casuals and had already a mindset that he even slept with gelled hairs and his coat. To say he looked hot when the water droplets ran from his side of head to his chest getting soaked in his grey t-shirt, was beyond understatement.
"Gawking at a man is rude, Mish." He smirked. And here, she knew he was back. She gave him a tight smile before putting her poker face on.
Karan chuckled and walked to the table where his sleeping tablet was kept. He opened the crease but before he could consume it , Mishti stopped him.
"Don't take it. " she Restricted. "Its..Dangerous." the color had faded from her face and she grabbed the tablets before throwing it in the polythene in which she kept all the garbage, ignoring the confused karan.
"I won't be able to sleep without them." He voices when she returned.
"You will. I'll make you." She said dragging him to the bed and beckoned him to lay down. He obeyed and she started running her fingers through her messy smooth hair and he closed his eyes contently.
After a long time, when she thought he slept, she tried to leave his room but the tight grip in her hand stopped her. She looked at her hand which was unknowingly intervened with his. "Stay" she heard him whisper.
"I will."
She closed her eyes as she sat back. And before she could sleep , she felt herself being dragged down and being pulled near the warmth. The warmth that she could sacrifice her heaven for.
They slept in each other arms not bothering to close the lights and the windows.
