In the Castle Dour we were greeted by Canary and General Tullius talking. The moment we walked in they shut up. They relaxed when they saw us though. General Tullius waved over us over, "Come over you two. We have some things to discuss."
I placed the chest on an open table and I responded, "I am sure we will." Canary pointed to the chest. "What's in there?"
Captain Aldis sighed, "Apparently he doesn't know. However I am sure he does..."
General Tullius shook his head. "The chest can wait. I wish to speak with you Vek. It is Vek right?"
I nodded, "Yes, it is. I assume this is about what me and Canary found."
She nodded, "He wants to create a new station." Canary rolled her eyes. I looked at Tullius and he shook his head. Soon after he spoke and begun to elaborate. "After your discovery we have had some tensions with the Thalmor Embassy. Specially since as you know they are rather close to Solitude."
He sighed, "Some of the higher ups of the legion suspected the civil war may have been orchestrated from behind the scenes. Specially those who disagreed with the white-gold concordat. With this new discover, well we will need more information. I don't want to put anything in my reports that may result in a brand new war or worse."
Tullius was both a very decisive man and yet so indecisive. "So how does this involve me? I know I made my stance clear and I am on the side of the imperial legion. However I am not a solider, just closer to a mercenary or sellsword."
Canary nodded, "Ironically that what makes you the perfect person for this new station. It is an espionage division."
I thought for a moment on what she meant. Ultimately I understood what they wanted. A group of unaffiliated, but imperial supporters. My disposition and current unemployed status made me perfect for the job. "I assume it isn't just me..."
Tullius nodded, "Canary, you, and anyone you wish to recruit. However I would prefer you keep it to a minimum. You will take orders from Legionnaire Rikke or myself. It pains me to say this, but your first mission will be to infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy. Thankfully..."
He pulled out a envelope. "I was suppose to make an appearance at a party they will be holding. So gather whoever you want for this little squad. Solitude trusts you, so the imperial legion trusts you."
I couldn't help notice how he didn't say he trusted me. However I nodded, taking the envelope. "The party will be held two months from now. I'll do some preparing for now,"
I added several things to the to do list. General Tullius waved his hand, "You are dismissed."
He walked off and Captain Aldis sighed, "I swear that man does it on purpose. He can be so inspiring some time. Other times though..."
Truthfully I didn't know him that well. Tullius didn't have a ton of lore so I didn't have much knowledge on him. Canary looked at me, and then at Aldis and turned to leave. I interrupted her though, "Can you open this chest?"
She stared at me, "You don't know how to pick a lock?"
I shrugged, "I'm not much of a thief."
She rolled her eyes and looked at Aldis, "You really don't either?"
He raised his hands, "Not the most steady of hands."
She sighed and dug into her back pocket. Pulling out a small locking picking kit she began opening the chest. We more useless chest openers stared over her shoulder. After a minute she grumbled, "Would you two back off?"
So we did and it was not because she gave us a death glare. Another minute later she popped the chest open. She whistled when she saw the contents, "Where did you find this?"
Aldis eyes widened, "Is that?"
I held back a laugh, but I couldn't help smirking. "Found it in the water of the docks. I suppose an official investigation must be made?"
Captain Aldis laughed, "So you were after an imperial investigation? If you are..."
Canary answered, "He is after a noble."
They just sucked out all the fun, Too smart to give me the satisfaction. I sighed and nodded, "So you want to give me whatever I need to investigate this?"
Captain Aldis scratched his chin, "Balmora Blue is a greater danger than normal skooma. I assume you know the dealer?"
I smirked, "And the consumer, the problem I don't have solid evidence."
Canary sighed, "I will get you an imperial seal and warrant."
With this my next actions become much easier. While Canary left, Captain Aldis looked over at me. "Can I ask who you are after?"
I raised an eyebrow. I gave him a smile, "I don't want to tell you too much. After all, if my plans fail... I will just kill them."
Aldis looked at me and frowned, "I'll take that as a joke, but can I ask what is the purpose?"
I shrugged, "I was hired, however it aligns with my own business plans to get rid of them. Does that work for you?"
Aldis nodded, "It does, I will let you get to it. Report back to me if you get your evidence."
I laughed just as Canary came back with the materials I needed. "If? More like when! Haha!"
I took the papers Canary held out and marched out the door. Behind me I heard her ask Aldis something. That was the least of my worries though. I read the document, it was a lot more than I expected. Not very specific either, but rather forceful.
I rolled it up and pocketed it. It was time to stalk Erikur, the notice of investigation, and sealed warrant made it easier. However it didn't stop Erikur from hiding things. So my plan was to watch his comings and goings. I also need to check out his house since he had a housecarl, maids and his sister all frequent his home.
So I made my way to my own home. Since I now owned Proudspire, I could use it as an excuse for checking out the area. It was time for a stake out!
