Chapter 35 - 35. Whom Is The Victim

"Cherry, it is nice to see you again..." Wale was trying to sound convincing but it was a total failure. Cherry was sitting inform of him, her arms crossed on her chest. "Oh cut the crap! You didn't even notice me when you shamelessly rushed to your lover."

"I'm sorry, I hadn't seen him in a while so you must understand the nature of my concern for him being in danger and all." Cherry was still unmoved by his sentiments. There was no way he was going to get through her by beating about the bush so it was better to hit the nail on the head. "Do you need anything. I'm concerned for your well being and our child."

"You don't have to worry about that. My parents whom you've hurt too by running off to another man are taking very good care of me. Besides, I din't come here to ask you for anything. I wanted Kind to drop the charges against my sister so if you care for our baby's well being then convince him. My sister does not belong there. She was being blackmailed by your uncle so you are equally to blame for this." Cherry had put emphasis on Wale's uncle

Wale leaned back on his seat. He'd never seen this side of Cherry their entire relationship. Had he been blind to her conniving ways? She felt like a different person. "Kind is the victim here. You have no idea the state we found him in, drugged and hallucinating. Your sister told her accomplices not to feed him or give him any water."

"That's a lie! Kind is lying to you! He was fed the first four days before your uncle refused to keep his promise to my sister. Besides, there was no way she would have put Kind's life at risk since that as the only leverage she would have used to get to your uncle. He was the one who ordered his kidnapping! How is it possible that you still defend Kind in the presence of the mother of your child? Your fiancé for crying out loud! We were in a relationship for ten years Wale! Ten years and you still defend him?" She scoffed, looking at him in disgust. "You play innocent too yet, you drugged him as well. If anything happens to my sister I will bring to light all the atrocities you've done to Kind too so don't play innocent infront of me."

"You're right. I have hurt Kind too that is why I'm saying he is the victim here and not you. You defend your sister passionately however she does not think much of you. She puts an act infront of you because she needs you and you've accepted being used by her. I've been at the police station this entire time and all she cared about was finding a way to talk to my uncle to help her disappear. Were you even aware she has been in the country this whole time?"

"That is the reason why I want her out of police custody so we can finally be a whole family Wale! I haven't seen her in years and it devastated me I had to see her behind bars after more than fifteen years since I last saw her. She may have made a few mistakes and I apologize on her behalf but she was doing them to protect me. Your uncle is the one who kept sending people to threaten me for information about you and I told her everything. Even when she was away, she managed to make them stop bothering me."

"That is because she took over from you. Cherry you risked my life and everyone else's by divulging information to which you had no right to share and if it wasn't for Todo's mother, we would have never apprehended him." Seeing that he'd managed to strike her conscience a little, he continued. "Cherry, I am deeply sorry for causing you pain and our relationship had never been a waste of time. We had our fun and I did right by you as your boyfriend from the start. I meant every time I said I loved you, even when I made you upset, I did my best to rectify my mistakes."

"By talking to Kind!" Cherry exclaimed, wiping her falling tears. "Don't you see how he managed to convince you to leave me? You always ran to him for advice, you always ran to him for what to get me for my birthday, our anniversaries and you always came back with a gift for two! I was always loosing to him and even when I finally told him to tell you to propose to me, he happily did it and like a fool I believed him. Little did I know our engagement ceremony was actually a facade! I found him in the best room in that villa rolling in the sheets with his lover! He is playing you and me Wale how can you be blinded by him? Why is everyone so defensive of him? Is it his good looks because apparently, Swalha too fell for that and is still in love with him! How could you choose another man over me, a woman! Do you have any idea how insulting this is to me and my family?"

Wale couldn't help notice how much Cherry's words matched her sister's. She had said the same words to him when they had confined her in the safe house together with Todo's mother. Cherry had been completely brainwashed by her sister it was impossible to convince her otherwise. Besides, being pregnant and desperate only made her more susceptible to emotional manipulation. It was pointless to argue with her yet, Wale still feared for her safety. They still did not know the extent of networks her sister had made to be able to reach his uncle. They may be people her sister was affiliated with who might come for Cherry and her parents in order to reach her sister. Todo's mother had been right all along. There are families who will do anything to defend their own, however, there are those family members who knew that and would use that weakness to exploit their own flesh and blood. "Cherry, I'm sorry your sister at this point is beyond Kind's reach and mine. She was an accomplice to may crimes my uncle has committed so it will be impossible for anyone to intervene. Even if she manages to get out, my uncle included, Todo's mother will apprehend them both for other crimes and that will never end."

"That old woman was Todo's mother? I assumed she was an outspoken nanny to him, seeing that Todo is rich and all..." Cherry regretted how she had spoken to her. "Yes. I met her when I was coming in from the police station. You would do well not to mess with her, she is scary." Wale didn't miss the flinch of fear from her but was uninterested in the details of her sudden timidness. "Even if your sister had not come to us about Kind's whereabouts, Todo's mother was already a couple of steps ahead of them so I won't lie to you when I say your sister will not be leaving prison for many years to come. Her body was found with many injection wounds so it's possible to assume her and her accomplices were my uncle's underlings but she may have been too arrogant to assume she had an ace up her sleeve since you and I were together. My uncle must have gotten tired of her threats and set her up with Kind's kidnapping to have her and her accomplices arrested."

Wale hadn't noticed Cherry had stopped crying. She simply sat there, immobile as she stared at the floor. After a long silence, she finally spoke. "May I see Kind?" Wale immediately shook his head. " I do not think it's a good time. We still do not know what happened to him yet. Your sister had left instructions to her accomplices to sodomize Kind if she failed to return after sometime, that is why he was injected with an aphrodisiac. Todo was the one who found him, naked and abandoned in the middle of nowhere. He could have been attached by anyone or anything. We are still unsure of their true intentions since they ran away when they heard Todo and his team coming however, they were apprehended and confessed to getting orders from your sister."

Cherry looked up at Wale. "Fine then. If that is the case, I'm sorry for all the pain caused by her. In truth, my parents also insisted I stay away from the case and her though she seemed genuinely desperate to get out of police custody...I wanted to at least be the one to help her this time since she has been the one who is always helping me."

"She is probably an addict and is trying to get on your good side...or is using your affections towards her so you can help her get out." Cherry's face lit up. "If that is the case then she needs to go to rehab and not prison." Wale responded by shaking his head. "Her case is more complicated than that and to add on that, she confessed to a lot of crimes you are unaware of to Todo's mother. Honestly I do not know either. Her mare confessions and her involvement with my uncle are already enough for Todo's mother to keep them locked up for life since she has taken their case very personally."

Cherry looked up in despair. She had given up the fight to get her sister out and if Wale had insisted that old woman to be scary, them she must really be. Even Todo himself didn't like her so he was never going to speak on her behalf to his mother. "Fine then. I have no reason to be here any longer therefore I must go." She stood up and Wale stood up too. "I'll take you home. It's late in the night. I would have invited you to sleep over but I doubt you'll agree to it."

"Then invite me." She said blankly. "In my state, pregnant and emotionally unstable, you should be afraid I might just harm myself and your child."
