A few days later, Darryl met up with Nadia at her home. She appeared anxious and was not quite herself.
‘What’s up cousin? Sorry I have not been able to meet up with you earlier.’
‘Is everything alright? You don’t look well’
‘I just have a lot of things on my mind. How are Raina and Leroy doing? How is work?’
‘They are doing well and work is fine. Care to share some of the things on your mind that are weighing you down?’
‘I broke up with Alex and now I am not sure if I made the right decision. I feel so alone and confused. I loved him but I was only hurting him.’ Nadia ran over the words so quickly that, if he had not been paying close attention, he would not have heard her.
‘Slow down for me please. Why did you break up with Alex? I thought you called me to tell me you would be going back to the states.’
‘I thought so too. In fact, I called to tell him that. Somehow, I found myself breaking up with him. I feel terrible.’
