Chapter 9 - Name

The skeletal captain bowed its head in reverence.

"Please, give me a name master." The captains voice was calm and cold. Like a hardened veteran who had been fighting for centuries.

The Necromancer paused for a second, clearly in contemplation before deciding on a name.

"I shall grant you the name, Teron." Klein stroked the bare skull of Teron before lifting his hand away. Teron began looking around the room.

He saw a round table in a large circular room. There where multiple chairs with one big one sitting at the opposite end of the table, facing the doorway.

The room was adorned by black and sickly green banners. The banners depicted a white skeletal hand clasping a black heart.

"Through the power of my magic, I have given you strength! Now for your orders. Your job is quite simple. Let's call it a test. Take your troop and venture out to conquer a village. I shall give you a book, that book will give you all the knowledge needed to raise the villagers into a proper fighting force. Go, now, and don't keep me waiting." With that, Teron bowed his head and got up to leave.

Teron walked towards the door and left the room.

"Follow him and report back. There's something off about him… something is interrupting my magic." At Kleins words, five spirits in a shadowed cloak turned to black shadow-mist and blasted out the door.

Klein clenched his skeletal fist in anger.

'No one! Not anyone will question my power and tamper with my magic!' Klein was furious, and he would get to the bottom of whoever is tampering with his magic.

"Master." Teron got on one knee and bowed with reverence in front of Jyron.

Unbeknownst to both Jyron and Teron, Terons bones were sturdier. His strength, speed and senses were far superior to be before he as given true intelligence.

The truth of things are that Klein forced an evolution on the skeleton. As a result, it's power was far superior to what a normal skeleton would have.

It carried more power behind each swing of the sword. It moved much faster than an ordinary skeleton. And it could pick up sounds much better.

"You may stand." Jyron examined the skeleton with joy in his mind.

'The skeleton is perfect. Not only do I have another intelligent servant but I also have a spy in Kleins army.' Jyron was ecstatic with this development.

'I can only hope Klein doesn't know. He shouldn't be able to notice… at least I hope. If not, I can always run away.' Despite his positive outlook running is the last thing Jyron wants to do.

To run would mean to be left on his own. He would either have to flee to the living civilizations or to the wilderness.

The problem with that is Jyron has no knowledge of the surrounding areas. He doesn't know how far the necrotic empire is spread. He doesn't know any of the neighbouring countries and to go to one is a major risk.

Although he isn't certain, to him, it would be a decently fair assumption that civilization doesn't take kindly to talking skeletons and necromancers.

"Master. I was given a spellbook by The Necromancer." Terons words jolted Jyron out of his thoughts.

"Oh? Let me see."

Teron took out a black tome no longer than twelve pages.

It was giving off a chilling energy that would be cold to the touch to someone alive.

Black wisps of smoke were coming off the book.

"Interesting…" Jyron examined the book with a keen interest.

[Host already has upgraded skill of Raise Skeleton, Conjure Skeleton.]

'So I have a better version of this spell… I see….' Jyron was lost in thought staring at the book but quickly snapped out of his daze.

"You May learn this skill. What are your orders?" Jyron handed the tome back to Teron.

"We are to march on a town about a month on foot outwards. Our small squad of about twenty five will slaughter them and raise the corpses to create a small army." Jyron thought for a moment before deciding on what to do.

"Alright then. We shall march for the town now!" Jyron quickly left the alleyway he was in for confidentiality. Teron followed behind in a subservient position.

Unknown to Jyron, one of the shadow-cloaked spirits was watching with close scrutiny.

'Why would an newly intelligent monster be walking behind a normal skeletal mage like that? I suppose I should report to master.' The cloaked being once again turned to shadow and leapt into the sky.
