I was not used to driving on the streets of New Rome. Like most everything else I owned of value, I’d sold my car to help pay for my grandfather’s medical expenses. After he passed, that hadn’t been enough. I sold the house as well to finish paying them off.
So, I was glad for the driver and car Cassius provided to help me get my things and bring them back to the mansion. I did feel a little ill at ease being driven around–or it could have been the fact that I was riding in a car that cost more than my old house that was unnerving. And the people on the street seemed to notice.
It felt as if people slowed down just to take it in as we drove past.
I had never been happier to turn into our little neighborhood and get to the little house at the end of the block that I shared with Florence. But even as I went inside, I noticed people hanging out and cars that drove by that were slowing down to take a look.
