Chapter 24 - The Crystal and a Riddle

"I am King Grādh, your One King."

Wondering where such a voice is coming from, a bright blue light length the same as them removes itself from the dome.

Like a ghost showing itself, gradually, it became clear to them as the light loses its fade and became whole, the person that stands before them, is indeed the One King they all have missed.

Astonished by the mystery they saw, they bowed and showed their King great honor.

"You saved us." The Queen said as she was close to tears and her throat closed up.

Queen Vana, her long-gone father, King Grādh, in a form she least expected, came not only to save her but through saving her, the kingdom might somehow be saved.

Sir Philip stunned by his presence, turned to the Queen and saw in her eyes the yearning for a father whom she lost just before her enthronement.

"A tragedy has befallen in Acairè." King Grādh uttered at once.

The weight of the thought that Acairè has indeed fallen and close to none has survived, silenced all of them.

Nobody could ever fathom the coming of the Princess could create hell in the kingdom in a span of just a few hours.

"I am to blame father... Forgive me that I have overlooked my brother's capabilities and that it has damaged your land deeply." The Queen sobs in the presence of her father.

When her father left them, Vanameryth was devastated. Having her feel his love and presence made her bawl in tears.

No matter how much she tried to compose herself because not only that she mourns for her kingdom, her father, the King has come, and the burden she will carry now that she is kept alive, made tears stream down her face.

"Can my forgiveness bring back Acairè's glory? Now, now my child, I have not come to hear something from you. I have come to help you." Comforted by her father's ever so becalming voice, she listens.

Queen Vana inhaled as she suppressed her tears preventing them from ever showing up. She just couldn't help but think about the things she could've done.

As she inhales, she tried gathering whatever her heart and mind is loaded with and exhaled everything out. She needs to be sensible and restrained. She can't get all weak now that she saw her father at last.

"Listen to me Knights of Acairè, you are all that the Queen has..." the king shifted his tone from a father to a ruler.

As the Knights heard the King's call, right away, their senses are ready to take whatever command he will give doubtlessly.

"This is the last lineage of the blood that I carry. " The King then opened his hands and there without his skin touching, a bright yellow gem is revealed to them. "It's her soul" he added.

"Bring this and deliver my child in this land and she will deliver peace for this land... Here take this." he lifted the gem towards the knight and looked at the first knights with hope.

The Knights looked at each other wondering what this enchantment they are looking at.

"I think you should take it, Sir Philip," Ryvna said.

Sir Philip looked at Ryvna and she nodded. With the trust of his trusted colleagues, he then took a step forward and lift her hand open.

The gem then hovered through the air and reached for his hand.

He catches it but even when his hand is still half open, it lost its light. He is left with a crystal piece carved in a perfect curve like it was a seed in his hand.

"That's her soul, carry my child with honor." The King with a father's love said to Sir Philip.

Curiously, as much as he trusts the King, he couldn't help but ask. "Why your last lineage One King?"

King Grādh let out a breath, he looked at Sir Philip like how they looked at him with hope when he revealed himself earlier.

He too is hoping for them. For he knows what's ahead, he might not know what it truly meant, but he knew from the soul the knight has now carried, is a lost soul. It needs to find its place. That's the help that they're going to need.

King Grādh could nowhere sense any supremacy. To him, this clearly indicates a losing battle for Acairè and for the rest of the centuries.

"The soul in your hand.... dies in the last few days of Shaoghal. Whoever that soul belongs to doesn't need to go through that anymore... Now go and save Shaoghal." He declared.

"I will come with you." Queen Vana said with a desire in her heart to stand before her people and save Acairè.

Because she, as Queen, longs nothing more now but her kingdom's safety, yet not long enough for Sir Philip cuts her enthusiasm in a heartbeat. "We don't know what we are up against. We can only armor one person... you should stay."

The Queen in so much disbelief met her brows together knowing her knights looks down on the degree of strength she has.

"You don't tell me what to do--" she may be angry at Sir Philip as she said those words, but she is angry at all her first knights. All they do is stop her.

Risk is not for Sir Philip to take. He can never bare anyone much more than the Queen to combat a battle he doesn't even understand. There's too much in his head already.

The Queen couldn't finish her sentence when her eyes shut close, her arms fell to her side and her body straight to the ground.

"Queen Vana!" The knights said in unison.

Puzzled by the sudden fainting of the Queen, King Grādh spoke again "Although you won't be gone for too long, It'll be too dangerous for her." What the King said pieced the puzzle. It was the King who made her faint.

"I'll leave you now. All I wish for Shaoghal is to bring back its dignity stomped by wicked jealousy," he said as he bid his farewell.

Before the King fades away, Sir Philip took the chance to ask him one more time, "How're we going to find your last child King Grādh?"

"Skin to skin, soul to soul, ask and it shall bring you yonder here." and he faded into the dome.

All that the One King left for them is the crystal and a riddle.

A riddle that didn't take Ryvna a second to figure out.

She stood and with eagerness to embark on a journey of time unknown, she held both Sir Philip and Sir Von's hands as she uttered the words with genuine plead and whisper.

"Take us to you, take us to you..."

Without a doubt, Ryvna indeed figured it out.
