Chereads / The Witch Memoria / Chapter 23 - Town

Chapter 23 - Town

I arrived in a town when it is almost lunch time. The horse looks tired and it can also be hungry and thirsty.

The guards that is guarding the gate could only look at my dress at once and they immediately let me in.

After successfully entering the town I looked around me and as expected everyone is looking at me.

My dress looks expensive so in their eyes I'm obviously a noble, but what's really eye catching about me is the mask that I'm wearing.

Instead of looking at my dress everyone is looking at my head instead.

I let the horse follow behind me, I tried to find a food to give it but I forgot I don't have any money on me.

I can't believe I'm acting the same as Amelia. She also left the mansion packing some food and clothes with no money in tow.

Because of it she had a hard time renting a carriage that will bring her to Earl Minerva but in the end it seems like her eloquent speaking managed to convince the driver that the Earl will pay for her fee instead that's why she was able to ride without paying.

She hasn't arrived in the Earl's place yet and I think it's much better to meet her in the next city which is governed by another Earl family which is the Leviere family.

I grimaced as I looked at the stalls that has vegetables and fruits on them.

They're in front of me but they seemed to be out of reach just because I don't have any money.

I've read this kind of experience from people like Harodin but I never imagined it would feel this awful.

I'm fine since I don't need food nor sleep... I looked at the horse while thinking of abandoning it but in the end shook my head and headed for a stable.

I then saw a guy managing it so I approached him.

"I don't have any money on me. Is it possible for you to take care of him even if that's the case?" I asked.

The guy then looked at me then scratched his head.

"Lady, I don't think that's possible. You have to pay" he said.

"Even if I can pay for it later?" I said.

He seemed to be contemplating then looked at me again. He had the look as if he believes that I can pay him back.

"If you don't have any money right now, why not sell the dress you're wearing? There's a dress shop near here who can buy that dress and pay you" the guy suggested.

"Is that so? Then I'll go sell the dress first, please watch the horse for me" I said and left the stable after slightly bowing my head as my way of saying thank you.

I almost facepalmed myself for forgetting to ask the direction of the place.

Even though I read a lot of books, it seems like being book smart won't help me at all if I lack experience in the first place.

With a heavy sigh I head back to the stable to ask for the direction from the guy. The guy seemed to be kind so he willingly told me the direction and even draw a picture on the ground with a stick.

I nodded my head and continued heading to the dress shop.

Once I entered the place, the clerk immediately sprang up to accomodate me.

"Yes lady, how can I help you?" she then asked with a birght smile.

"I don't have any money on me so I'm trying to sell the dress I'm wearing. And could you also provide a new clothes for me as well? You can deduct the price from the money I'll get" I said.

She seemed to be in a daze for a second trying to take note what I'm saying then after a long thought she then smiled and showed me the way.

"It must have been your first time in this place, lady?" the clerk tried to make a conversation as she picked up clothes that she thinks might fit me.

I nodded at her while pointing at the white simple dress that she picked out so I can wear it.

She then smiled and gave the white dress to me so I went into a separate room and wore it.

"How much money will you give me? I'm expecting honesty from you, Lady" I said with a heavy tone.

Without feeling insulted the clerk smiled at me brightly and bowed her head.

"You can trust me, Milady. I will never be dishonest to you" she said then straithened up and carried the dress I gave her to a store room.

After a long while of waiting for her, the girl then appeared while carrying a small pouch of coins.

"The quality of the dress is very high. It probably costs 800 gold to buy this but since it is already used I can pay you 780 gold for this. The dress you bought earlier will be free in exchange for it. WIll that be alright?" the clerk with still a smile on her face.

"You are good, although this dress costs 900 gold because of extra fee from the maker you're still able to estimate the probable price by just looking at the material itself. As a bonus 750 gold will be more than enough for me" I said and smiled.

Her eyes seemed to widen for a moment but it then changed back into her usual smile.

"I will do so, Lady" she said and took out 30 gold from it and gave me the pouch of money.

"Will you be staying in this town for awhile?" she then asked.

"Yes, I will stay the night here" I said and nodded.

"Should I recommend a place for you to stay? One of the people I know manages it" the clerk suggested.

"You seem caring and kind. Then I'll take up your offer and head there. Where is it?" I said and looked at her in fascination.

"Just head down the stair there then turn to the right corner. Then you walk straight and head to the left of the second street that you see. The eight building there is the place I'm talking about" she said so I nodded.

Without furhter ado I turned around to leave the place.

"Thank you for your patronage, Lady" I can hear her saying from behind so I only bowed slightly in acknowledgement and followed the directions she told.

After seeing the place I immediately headed there to reserve a room for me to stay. Good thing is that the clerk from before also gave me other coins such as silver and bronze so I was able to pay normally without attracting any attention.

Not minding the eyes of the people staring intensely at me, I was able to reserve a room for myself peacefully and satisfactory left the place.

I went back to the stable and paid the guy from before a gold coin to take care of my horse.

"T-This is too much---"

"No need to refuse, Sir. You helped me a lot today and that's the least thing that I can do" I said as I shook my head.

"Just take care of him and make sure that he's ready enough to leave by morning tommorow"

He looks worried for the horse but thinking that I must be in a hurry, he kept his mouth silent and bowed his head indicating he'll follow my order.

I then headed back in the inn and called out the Book of Art.

I think spatial bags exist everywhere as well but I don't have time to buy one for it since I can just create one myself.

Most spatial bags can only look like a bag to work, but what if I make it into a ring that I can wear instead?

I'm afraid that my pouch can easily be stolen anytime.

And with that I created the Spatial Ring that can hold up to 50 items. That's the only condition I can make if I want the time inside the bag to fully stop as well.

Spatial bags of high-caliber like this could have hold a thousand items although things like food would still rot inside of it.

After I'm done making the ring I then put it in my finger, it also has a capability to change its size accoring to the user's size and since it's a very important artifact only the witches can wear it.

With this my money is secured. In the Spatial Ring I also put the book and pen in there that I also brought with me. It's actually pretty hard to grab hold of the book while holding unto the back of the horse but in the end I managed.

I forgot to say that I also brought the Witches' necklace that I made from before with me.

It has has been hanging on my neck for a long time now and this will be the first time that I decided to take it off and hide it inside the ring.

Only now that I'm outside and was in a dangerous position did I realize that having an expensive looking item can attract attention so this time I made the Spatial Ring to be as plain looking as possible.

No one would even bat an eye to take it from me. Well even if they take it they can't still wear it since it's a ring for us witches... and wizards.

I keep forgetting that wizards can exist as well.

It's all because I'm named as the progenitor of the witches that I keep thinking that men do not exist in my species.

Should I start calling myself the Progenitor of the Witches and Wizards?
