Leige woke up to face a blank, white ceiling.
If he was honest, it looked exactly as every single nurse's office ever in any story, the bland colour of the walls desaturating the whole room, making the view outside of the window seem surreal and filled with life.
Looking around the room, it wasn't hard to notice the student standing with his back straight next to the wall on the side of the exit, as the black uniform greatly contrasted with rest of the room.
However, he didn't bother to acknowledge the unknown student who looked around the same age as him, preferring to check the condition of his body.
Of course, he had not forgotten the pain of being burned and shot to what probably would've been death if this was like Earth.
Flexing his slender fingers, which were still intact with his hands, and wiggling his toes under the thin blanket someone, probably the nurse or whoever cured him, considerately covered him with, although he was still in his uniform.
As Leige was busy being fascinated with how efficiently he was healed, the boy who was studying him frowned.
"Are you not even going to acknowledge me?" the boy's slight nasal tone to his voice evoked a sense of deep familiarity within Leige, although he didn't know why.
Leige looked up, and slowly studied the boy's face, the typical 'smart student president' glasses mounted on his nose.
Seeing that Leige wasn't going to answer anytime soon, the boy frowned.
"Something has changed about you. Although you are still the worst student in the class," the boy paused, "and in the whole school, what you said to Miss Verne was clearly an act."
Leige did not have any visible reaction to his accusations, because he had already predicted them.
Well, he did not know who would do what, but he had long knew that there would be someone to catch him out and try and hinder him.
It was only obvious considering his fairly smooth-sailing journey by now that someone was going to attempt to stop him.
Leige stayed silent, provoking a sense of irritation in the boy.
"As the class president, I will find out what is happening! If it is from the use of magic from the Orcus, you can bet that you will never get away with it!" with that, the boy left, more irritated than whence he came.
Leige, who was still silent, watched the boy leave, but his head was filled with questions.
The main one was,
What was 'magic from the Orcus'?
As he had studied Latin before, he knew that 'orcus' referred to death, or the underworld, but also knew that in Roman mythology, 'Orcus' was the god of the underworld, or at least some sort of demon.
So there were demons in this game?
His second main question was about what the magic from the orcus actually was, as in what magic was it.
His best logical guess would be it was similar to the 'black magic' or 'dark magic' often talked about in Earth, just with a different name.
Perhaps the creators wanted to be fancy with the name or something.
However, he ensured that the pieces of information he received from the nice little visit was stored into his head so he would be able to access it if needed.
Before he could think about it more, the door burst open.
"Leige-sa- Leige!!" the energetic heroine had tears in her eyes as she bounded forward into the room, her golden locks making the room's atmosphere feel warmer.
It was safe to say that Leige had not anticipated this visit.
"Yumi." for whatever reason, although he hadn't spoken for what seemed like a while, his voice wasn't croaky or hoarse.
He was once again fascinated at the efficiency and the quality of the care he had received.
"I was so worried about you that I couldn't focus in maths!" she cried pitifully, looking at him with her doe eyes. "A-A-A-A-And Ang-Angelica s-s-s-said t-"
"Take a deep breath." he couldn't understand a word the babbling girl was saying as she struggled to get the words out.
As soon as Leige instructed her, she immediately stopped, nodded and took a deep breath, although she was clearly shaking from what seemed to be distress the whole time.
"Y-Y-You aren't you like what you were like on the like field on right yes?!"
...Leige felt like he had a stroke just hearing that sentence.
"...Pardon?"
"T-T-T-The on field!! On the field, you aren't really like that, right!!" Yumi had attempted to calm down, but failed, although at least her words were formed enough to understand.
He immediately knew that she was talking about what he said to provoke Angelica on the field.
Of course, he wouldn't usually say that, it was only in order to get the best results from the opportunity that had arrived before him.
He had no idea that reverting to what he thought would obviously be an act would be believed by Yumi, especially since Yumi had arrived after him.
"No." Yumi lit up immediately, clutching his hands.
"Right!! That's what I told everyone, but they didn't believe me! They just thought you were blackmailing me!! Of course, that's ridiculous, and so I told them, but they just kept on pitying me!" sentences seemed to flow out like a stream from Yumi's mouth after receiving his confirmation.
Leige widened his eyes slightly.
Of all things, he really hadn't expected the heroine to be standing up for him, although he had experienced it before when he got sent to the student council's office.
He couldn't help thinking back to his previous life, where he was all alone, with no one who had ever properly cared for him.
It was the first time in his two lives that he had ever met someone like Yumi, willing to back him up although they spoke rarely and he had only helped her once.
He couldn't help but feel a little warm inside.
With a small, rare smile on his face, he patted Yumi's head.
She really was like a dog.
But a puppy.
And the only thing doggy about her was her loyalty.
Not anything else. Readers you are perverted, don't deny it. But Leige really doesn't mean anything more than that. Okay? Okay.
...Just making sure.
He did not just refer to her as his bit- or a bit-h for that matter
Ok you get it now.
Move on with the story.
Go on.
Stop thinking about it.
Just go.
Or maybe it was only me whose mind went places when I wrote that.
That's embarrassing.
For me.
Just go.
"Leige-sa- Leige?" Yumi looked up curiously to see a flash of a smile on Leige's face, although it had passed so quickly that she couldn't be sure.
Leige had already decided to view Yumi as a younger sister he was responsible for, and so he no longer felt annoyed by her.
"You don't have to back me up. I can do it myself." Leige thought back to the capture targets.
He was sure that he had already messed up a lot of the plot, but at least he could try to get the heroine's story back on track, just without the bullying.
However, Yumi thought completely different.
"Of course! Leige-sa- Leige is a very manly man, and he does not need anybody to help him! He is very capable of handling everything that comes his way, and he is not weak! He is manly! Like a man! Not like a woman at all!" Yumi declared triumphantly.
...What?
Leige blinked a few times before deciding that it would be too troublesome to correct her.
Not that he understood whatever that was going through the energetic puppy's brain at the moment.
Or anytime for that matter.
As Yumi happily waved goodbye to him, he looked at the clock, that had been ever so slightly edging away as he had those meetings.
He had slept for a few hours, considering it was nearly the end of lunch.
Looking around his solitary room from the comfort of the bed, he found that apart from the sickly white walls, everything else was fairly nice.
In fact, he very much liked it.
He slept in class anyway, so the only difference for him today was that he was in a very comfortable position compared to when sleeping with his head on the desk.
Yawning a little, Leige stretched his arms like a cat before turning over, finding a more comfortable position.
However, before he could go back to sleep on the bed which he clearly preferred more than school work, a voice interrupted him from his sleep.
"Leige!!"
