Chapter 13 - Chapter 13:Pewter City and Cerulean City, Part 2 - The Pewter City Gym Battles

(Pewter City, Kanto Region, Pokémon World)

--------------------------------

(Cobalt POV)

--------------------------------

Cobalt and Acerola were stood in front of the Pewter City Gym. Taking a deep breath, Cobalt turned to Acerola.

''Well, this is it. You ready?'' She asks him.

''No, I don't think anyone's ever really ready for their first league. Over time and after a couple of Pokémon Leagues maybe, but not the first one. At any rate, let's go.'' Says Cobalt.

Before going in they'd agreed that Cobalt should get first crack. Acerola would go second, but their roles would be reversed at Cerulean. Acerola would get to go first, assuming the Sisters didn't suggest a double battle, in which case they'd take it, but it'd mean that Acerola would get the first shot at Lieutenant Surge, the Vermillion City Gym Leader.

And to be honest, Cobalt couldn't guarantee he wouldn't get pissed and jump the line if and when Surge called her baby. Knowing Surge's mannerisms was one thing, but even so, calling another guy's girlfriend baby was grounds for getting one's teeth kicked in.

Still, he had a job to do, he had to beat Brock. That was why he'd taken the hit to buy two TM's that would help his Pokémon against Flint/Brock.

It cost him about 16,000 of his 24,750 Pokédollars. He already had racked up some Pokédollars through tournament wins in Alola and Galar, and of course, the League handed out each trainer 10,000 Pokédollar's at the start of their journey.

This meant that given the mandatory entrance fee of about 2,500 Pokédollars per trainer entering the league wasn't that big of a deal. Especially with all the side money gained throughout the year from trainers buying and restocking on the basic necessities, and the rich cunts who splurge on TM's.

All in all, Cobalt had about twelve thousand already gained in Tournament prize money before the Kanto League injected his account with another Ten. The remainder had been taken from that Samurai.

As for what those TM's were? Well, one would help him against Brock/Flint and the other would help him against both. The one that specifically helped him against the Pewter City Gym Leader had been taught to Charmander, Ace, and Pikachu. But as far as Acerola was concerned, neither of these two TM's would help her much as her Mon's already had their own moves of equal or greater power that would help them.

Greedy Rapooh especially.

Cobalt and his loaned Pokémon in Alola had struggled to beat Rapooh times past, but Cobalt had done it. Of course, Rapooh was a sore loser and required placating, but that was hardly the point. What was the point, was that no matter how strong you are or how many powerful moves your Pokémon might know, no one is ever truly infallible.

Anybody can be beaten with the right strategy, improvisation, and tactical awareness.

Even Arceus.

As the Gym Leader of Pewter City would soon learn...

--------------------------------

Walking into the Gym, Cobalt is somewhat frustrated to see Brock and not Flint. However, that has more to do with the fact that Cobalt has little record of Brocks tactics and Pokémon, meaning a counter is difficult to do.

''Names Cobalt, this is Acerola. We're here to challenge the Pewter City Gym Leader.'' Says Cobalt, handing his Pokédex to the referee alongside Acerola, while speaking to Brock.

''You're speaking to the Pewter City Gym Leader. My name is Brock. Which of you would like to go first?'' Asks Brock.

''We've already discussed it, and Cobalt gets to go first.'' Says Acerola.

''Very good, if you'll follow me, we'll head to the field of battle. There are stands for an audience, you may sit there during your friend's battle.'' Brock says, adding the last bit to Acerola.

''How do you want to do this?'' Cobalt asks. ''Standard one-on-one format or something different?''

''One one one, I don't have the Pokémon to sustain any other format.'' Says Brock as they enter the field and take their sides.

''This battle is between Cobalt Black from Pallet Town and Brock the Pewter City Gym Leader. The battles will be one on one, but only the Challenger may switch Pokémon. This battle will continue until all the Pokémon from one side are defeated. Are both parties ready?'' The referee says and Cobalt feels his eyebrow twitch in annoyance.

''I'm ready.'' Cobalt says.

''As am I.'' Brock confirms.

''Then let the Baaaatttttllllleeee.....Begin!'' The ref calls out.

''Geodude let's go!'' Brock says.

''Charmander! Let's kick it into overdrive!'' Says Cobalt, letting Charmander out to battle.

''I assume Charmander is your starter Pokémon? You should know that you are in for a very tough battle against Geodude.'' Says Brock, causing Cobalt to let out a low chuckle. ''What's so funny?''

''Charmander wasn't MY starter, but you're in for a surprise. Let's begin, Charmander use Smokescreen!'' Says Cobalt, as he initiates the plan he'd spoken to Charmander about shortly after his promise to use him first.

Immediately after obscuring Brock and Geodude's vision, Charmander activates Defense Curl and Work Up several times, increasing its Defence and Attack stats for the duration of the battle. If Charmander were to learn Swords Dance it would make both Cobalt's Kanto League and the training of Charmander easier.

''Geodude, Use Dig!'' Brock shouts on the other side of the Smokescreen.

''Charmander! You know what to do!'' Cobalt tells his mon who's looking around nervously. This was one plan they'd discussed. Rock and Ground-Types were highly sensitive to vibrations and it didn't matter if the one making those vibrations was light as a feather and stationary. There was one thing that a particularly sensitive Rock or Ground-Type could pick up on.

A heartbeat.

If you could become tranquil enough, even humans could feel their heartbeat.

This was why he'd spoken to Charmander throughout most of their journey by train. This Pokémon was so eager to please. Teaching Charmander to slow its breathing down but at a rate where it can quickly unleash a mighty Fire Spin if it needs to.

The only problem was that other than the three hours he had to go over it with Charmander, was that in order to unleash a move of any substantial power, Charmander's heartbeat would become detectable, very detectable.

But this wasn't the goal, the goal was to do the distance and tire out Geodude before unleashing a powerful attack to daze Geodude long enough to switch out Charmander with Bulbasaur on the sly. So it was just the matter of staying mobile and relatively uninjured that concerned Cobalt.

''That won't work on my Geodude. Now, use Mud-Slap!'' Brock orders as Geodude explodes from the ground and strikes Charmander.

''You'll have to do better than that! Use Attract and Double Team!'' Cobalt orders as Charmander uses it in succession. Even if Attract failed because Charmander and Geodude were the same gender there would still be a momentary lapse of concentration in which case it could be utilised to use double team to confuse the opponent further upon dropping said technique.

''Snap out of it and use Focus Punch!'' Brock Orders.

''Oh, Shit! Charmander use Defense Curl and get ready to use it!''

''Charmander!'' Charmander cried out as it was hit by Focus Punch.

''Slam it with Iron Tail!'' Cobalt orders and Charmander hits it hard into the dirt and because Steel-Type moves were effective against Ground and Rock-Types, Geodude was dazed. ''One more Time!'' Cobalt quickly orders, but contrary to expectations, Charmander's claws glow an ephemeral white and grow, and Charmander begins striking Geodude furiously.

''That's Metal Claw!'' Brock realises.

Turning to look at Geodude as Charmander leaps back, they all see the battered and bruised Geodude has fainted, so it would seem that after being dazed by Iron Tail, the repeated strikes from Metal Claw caused Geodude to faint.

''Geodude is unable to battle, so this round goes to Charmander and Cobalt Black!'' The referee announces.

''That was surprisingly easy.'' Cobalt commented.

''Don't be too surprised, Geodude had only just recovered from battling a strong trainer, so it's only natural that it wasn't exactly one hundred percent ready.'' Says Brock, returning Geodude to his Pokéball.

''I guess that makes sense. Even so, good job Charmander.'' Cobalt says to the Fire-Type.

''Char, Char!'' It says happily, clearly pleased with the praise.

''I was planning on giving Bulbasaur a chance to battle, but Charmander? I figure you've got a little bit more time to battle. Let's give Brock a run for his money eh?'' Cobalt asks Charmander, who gives him the Charmander equivalent of a thumbs up.

''Char!'' It replies happily.

''A nice appreciation, but not enough for my Graveler!'' Brock calls out sending Geodude's evolved form out to battle Charmander.

''GRAVELER!'' It bellows mightily.

''Charmander.'' Charmander seems nervous against such a large foe, but Cobalt won't let that hurt Charmander.

''Charmander! Remember what I said to you! I believe in you and your potential.'' Cobalt says, and Charmander swallows its nervousness and nods to Cobalt resolutely. ''Alright, then let's start with Fire Spin.'' Cobalt orders.

''Char.....Mander!'' With a roar that was more cute than anything else, Charmander launched a rotating vortex of fire at Graveler.

''Withstand it Graveler!'' Brock orders.

''Charmander! Follow it up with Iron Tail!'' Cobalt orders Charmander who after releasing Fire Spin at Graveler, uses the vortex as cover to hide his approach.

''Quick! Use Dig!'' Brock Orders just after the Fire Spin hits.

''Grav-'' Just as Graveler starts digging, Charmander only just clips his opponent with Iron Tai by a few inches.

''Use Earth Power!'' Brock orders Graveler and it hits Charmander hard.

''Charmander. Char.'' Charmander struggles to stand up.

''Charmander, thats enough!'' Cobalt calls out.

''Char?!'' Charmander looks disappointed that Cobalt is retiring him so early.

''Return.'' Cobalt tells it.

''Char.'' It walks back dejectedly.

Kneeling to eye level with Charmander, Cobalt gently embraces Charmander before looking at it proudly.

''Hey, you did good Charmander, but we have to let the others have a turn, alright? Now take a good rest.'' Cobalt says giving it a comforting head pat, before returning it to its Pokéball. ''Alright Brock, how about I show you a Pokémon you've never seen or even heard of before, and use a move just the same? Rockruff let's go!''

''Ruff! Ruff, ruff?'' Rockruff looks at Cobalt excitedly, and Cobalt attaches the Darkinium Z to Ruff's Collar.

''You might wanna get out the way Brock, this is gonna suck for you. Alright Ruff, you know what time it is, let's Kick it into Overdrive and finish this with one shot!'' Cobalt says activating his Ring which resonates with its counter piece in Ruff's Collar and Primes the Z-Crystal.

''BLACK...HOLE...ECLIPSE!'' Cobalt calls as he reluctantly does the "dance" for Black Hole Eclipse. The unleashing of such Potent Dark-Type Energy through the powerful move Crunch being transformed into a Z-Move hits Graveler with a full-power Black Hole of Darkness. It might not be as effective as Tectonic Rage, but the move will still hit Graveler quite hard.

Crunch had a damage total of about eighty points of damage, and assuming there is a multiplier involved that'd unleash between a hundred fifteen to a hundred forty-five points of damage for Black Hole Eclipse. With Graveler struck by a Fire Spin and followed up by being clipped with an Iron Tail, Blackhole Eclipse should hopefully have done more than enough damage in Graveler.

As the dust clears, Graveler is still standing, if only just. Rockruff meanwhile is panting heavily, because it lacks a Dark-Type typing, Black Hole Eclipse takes a lot out of Rockruff. Additionally, the move deals with Dark-Type Energy directly, so it is much stronger.

''That was quite the move, is it exclusive to that Pokémon?'' Brock compliments.

''What Black Hole Eclipse? Nah, in Ruff's home region, there are many special Crystal's geared specifically for certain types of Pokémon. Black Hole Eclipse is done with a Darkinium Z. I have a Darkinium Z, Rockium Z, and Lycanium Z. Lycanium Z refers to Rockruff's evolved form, making it one of the few Mon's with its own Z-Crystal. If I had a Groundium Z, Graveler would be out cold. Hmm, speaking of which, Rockruff! Use Earth Power!'' Orders Cobalt after briefly mentioning to Brock the Nature of Black Hole Eclipse.

''Dodge it!'' Brock Orders, but Graveler is at its limit, the power of Black Hole Eclipse is still affecting Graveler, as shown when the numerous moves used on it cause its attempts to dodge make its legs buckle from over-exertion.

''Graveler is unable to battle, this round goes to Rockruff and Cobalt!'' The Ref announces as Brock returns Graveler to his Pokéball.

''You've had a good run, but your lucky streaks are over. Let's go...Onix!'' Says Brock, unleashing his most powerful Pokémon.

''Alright, Rockruff, return. You did good Ruff, but Black Hole Eclipse exhausted you. I'm not willing to risk you against Onix in that state. Let's kick it into Overdrive, Ace!'' Cobalt calls as he lets out his Alolan Meowth.

''Meow?'' Meowth asks, confused.

''Meowth, wear Onix down with an Icy Wind!'' Cobalt orders.

''Meowth....'' It answers lazily, though Onix seems amused more than anything, something Ace notices easily and reacts to.

''Meowth!'' It screeches furiously as it uses its natural speed and Aerial Ace to slip in close to Onix.

''Quick use Rock Smash!'' Brock orders, but Meowth is unnaturally quick, and Aerial Ace certainly helps in that regard as Meowth slips over, under, and between Onix's attacks with ease to hit various points of its body with Icy Wind at point-blank range.

''Ace! Water Pulse!'' Cobalt orders as Meowth leaps up high above.

''Quick use Iron Tail'' Brock orders, and just as Meowth begins to release the Water Pulse, the Iron Tail hits her.

The Iron Tail might not be very effective against Ace, but Onix is nevertheless physically stronger than Ace and thus is able to hit Ace harder.

Onix however has been significantly weakened by the Water Pulse and Icy Wind, and although Cobalt could very easily end it with Ace...

''Ace, Return!'' Cobalt orders, returning Ace to her Pokéball.

''Here we go, last one. Bulbasaur let's go!'' Says Cobalt.

''You say this is your last Pokémon, and yet I see at least two Pokéballs on your belt that you haven't used yet. Are you that confident in your Bulbasaur?'' Brock asks.

''To answer your question? Yes, but that's hardly the point, Bulbasaur has the moves and typing to combat your Onix. However, Onix is especially weak right now. Moreover, my battle philosophy has never been about a single Pokémon one-shotting an entire opposing side, so let me show you why it's such a bad idea to underestimate my Bulbasaur! Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf!'' Cobalt Orders, but Brock it seems has the perfect Counter.

''Use Dig and follow up with Skull Bash!'' Brock orders as Onix burrows under the ground and a few seconds later erupts beneath Bulbasaur's feet and hits it with Skull Bash. Bulbasaur's type advantages save it somewhat, but because Skull Bash is a normal type move there's no type-advantage-based effectiveness that saves Bulbasaur from the sheer impact.

''Bulbasaur return.'' Cobalt says returning Bulbasaur to his Pokeball. ''No choice now, this is the absolute last Pokemon. Snorlax, come on out.'' Says Cobalt.

''Snor?'' Snorlax says turning around curiously, and eyes Cobalt with a lopsided grin before hugging Cobalt against his belly. ''Snorlax.'' It says, patting him softly.

''Listen Snorlax, see that Onix? If you don't beat it, it gets your food.'' Says Cobalt and Snorlax stills. ''Don't make me give it your food.'' Cobalt pleads to it. ''If you can finish this match for me the next time you wake up, I'll have a feast prepared specifically for you.'' Says Cobalt.

Turning to glower at Onix, Snorlax stands up and pats its belly before nodding to Cobalt.

''Alright Snorlax, use Bubblebeam!'' Cobalt orders as Snorlax opens its maw and begins firing several lines of Bubblebeam at Onix. As a result of getting hit with Bubblebeam, Onix is weakened, but Cobalt has another idea in mind. ''Aim for the surrounding ground!'' Cobalt orders as Onix struggles to dodge because of its weight and size, and because of its nearby ground being hit by Bubblebeam it's not as easy for Onix to slip into it through Dig.

Looking at Brock, Cobalt is a little unnerved that Brock has not responded at all.

''Onix use Rock Smash!'' Brock orders.

''Hit it with Water Gun and then follow it up with Seismic Toss!'' Cobalt counters a Snorlax and fires a short blast of Water Gun to slow Onix down, and once it gets close picks it up before tossing it high into the air and jumping up to throw it hard onto the ground.

Onix struggles to stand up and Cobalt nods to Snorlax.

''Finish it with one more Seismic Toss!'' Cobalt orders.

''Dodge it with dig!'' Brock orders and as Onix enters the ground Snorlax grabs hold of its tail and using it as a leash, yanks Onix from the ground and throws it into the sky before jumping up and slamming it into the ground again. Looking down at Onix, it's still up and about, but just as it takes an inch forward, it collapses and faints.

''Onix is unable to battle, therefore the victory and the match goes to Cobalt Black of Pallet Town.'' Says the Ref.

''Well done Snorlax, have a good long rest and you'll have your feast as promised.'' Cobalt says patting Snorlax appreciatively before returning it to their Pokeball.

''You fought well, though your Bulbasaur probably could have continued on regardless.'' Says Brock as he approaches.

''Probably, but we haven't been through enough and I haven't seen enough of Bulbasaur to make that determination yet.'' Cobalt acknowledges.

''I suppose that's fair. Your reward for defeating me is this Boulder Badge. Carry it with pride and as a symbol of you and your Pokémon's resilience. I'll battle your companion tomorrow, for now, I must have my Pokémon treated by Nurse Joy, you should do the same.'' Brock says, handing the badge and departing.

''That was blunt.'' Cobalt notes, before turning just in time to catch Acerola who jumped him.

''You did it Cobalt! I knew you'd do it.'' Acerola beams at him, before giving him a kiss.

''I think it's time to begin training harder now, I'll watch your match of course Rola, but I want you and me to battle regularly again, give our Pokemon something to challenge themselves against.'' Says Cobalt as Acerola bobs her head yes.

''Of course, but let me at least beat Brock first!'' Acerola says.

''For now, we should head to the Pokemon Center and get the team healed up. I'll begin putting Pidgey through its paces as well. In hindsight, I probably should have used it before Snorlax, but I lacked the data on Brock to be able to use Pidgey against him effectively.'' Cobalt admits, before turning to Acerola and holding her hands. ''I would also like to look into using Greedy Rapooh as the perfect sparring partner, his versatility in combat is unmatched, and besides, it's amusing watching Rapooh's reactions to losing.'' Cobalt says as Greedy Rapooh pops out of his Pokeball and looks at him with an unimpressed look.

''Gengar?!'' If Rapooh had eyebrows to speak of, he'd have at least one of them raised right now.

''Just kidding Rapooh.'' Cobalt says though it's clear with the smile on his face, that Rapooh doesn't believe him.

''There there Greedy Rapooh, we'll just have to get Cobalt back during Training now won't we?'' Acerola says, giving Rapooh consoling pats, to which Rapooh gets an excited look in his eyes.

''Well then, shall we Acerola?'' Cobalt asks.

''Yes, let's head to the Pokemon Center.'' Cobalt says as they head there.

--------------------------------

Cobalt and Acerola were in the Pokemon Center, healing up the Pokemon Cobalt had used in battle, but Cobalt had also sent an order for the various berries he'd need to craft a recipe for Snorlax, not to mention the extra ingredients he'd need in order to satiate his Snorlax's calorie intake.

Wasn't exactly cheap, but he did promise Snorlax a feast if they helped him win, so this was him simply paying his debt to Snorlax. As it was, Cobalt couldn't afford to do this every time for Snorlax right now, but Cobalt had taken the time to also do a bit of research.

Trainers were able to get sponsorships depending on a variety of factors. These factors were mainly being their skill and reputation, the amount of Gym Badges/Contenst Ribbons in their possession, their win/loss ratio, and whether or not they were ranked within a Pokemon League, a regional Elite Four, or were a Champion. As near as Cobalt was able to tell, there were five levels of sponsorships. Low to mid-level trainers were counted in the first level, which also tended to include trainers who were not wealthy, but more well-off than most simply because their parents were wealthy or they were good enough trainers to advance enough to hit that First Level. Level Two sponsored Trainers were the richer trainers, people like Gary Oak who were basically trust fund kids or people like Ash who were destined to be skilled and effective trainers with fairly decent placings in the Pokemon League or Grand Festival. Level Three trainers were largely rich pricks and High-Level Ace Trainers.

Levels Four and Five was were things got interesting because to qualify for a Level Four Sponsorship a Trainer needed to make the Top fifteen in a Pokemon League or Grand Festival or have some serious connections with even more serious talent. Moreover, Level Four included members of the Elite Four who either hadn't been in their position very long or hadn't established themselves as serious members. This also tended to include Champions who were appointed to the position following a League and Elite Four victory but were appointed because there was no current Champion. Kind of like he or Acerola would be when they went to the Pokemon League.

Cobalt wasn't arrogant enough to believe it'd be smooth sailing through, because honestly winning the League was the easy part. Beating the Elite Four was gonna be the really hard part because Lance was no joke. Which made tracking down Dragonite all the more important, he highly doubted he'd be able to train a Dragonite easily enough and well enough by the point in the Pokemon League which was why he wanted to get his hands on a Dratini Egg in order to train it up over the course of his tour through Johto and Orange Islands. Orange Islands would be but the first whetstone for the Dratini, give it valuable experience and training before Johto. He'd unveil the Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite when he battled Lance again.

But that was another matter altogether.

Level Five Sponsorships were the top of the top, Champions and Monarch Series Trainers who ranked in the top twenty-five, companies such as Sliph Co, the Devon Corporation, Lysandre Labs, and several others were the kind of entities that gave these sponsorships. They were also reserved for Champions who chose to pass on their titles in order to continue as an Elite Four Trainer or become a Gym Leader or Frontier Brain.

Now came the overall levels of income from these sponsorships.

Level 1 Sponsorships being the lowest received approximately 1500 to 3500 Pokedollars, which actually might seem like much, but when you take into account the need to buy Pokeballs, food, TMs/HMs, and other stuff that tended to at most leave these trainers with at most a thousand Pokedollars. A good trainer who knew their numbers well enough could easily raise that number a little higher, but the money was usually low to encourage Trainers to improve and gain a far higher sponsorship. Level 2 Sponsorships averaged between 4000 and 7500, while Level 3 Sponsorships averaged between 10,000 and 15,000. Levels 4 and five were obviously obscene in the amounts offered. Level 4 was a minimum of 25,000 to 50,000 while Level 5 Sponsorships were between 125,000 and 750,000.

There was probably more to it, but that was largely what Cobalt had been able to dig up and piece together.

''Cobalt? Is that you?'' Turning in his seat, Cobalt is surprised to see Ash Ketchum. Honestly, he'd expected to see him after Acerola battled Brock.

''Ash, been a while. Didn't get a chance to talk after I got back did we?'' Cobalt realizes.

''Yeah, that's right, you were travelling right?'' Ash says in realization.

''For a few years yes, but I'm back. Take it you are here to challenge Brock as well right?'' Cobalt asks.

''You bet! I'm going to win my first Gym Badge and go on to win the Pokemon League!'' Says Ash excitedly.

''You will have to go through me first Ash. How many Pokemon do you have anyway?'' Cobalt asks.

''Counting Pikachu I have about three Pokemon, what about you?'' Asks Ash.

''I've got almost more than four times that number.'' Says Cobalt and Ash goes slackjawed.

''You've caught how many?'' Ashs asks.

''And, I've beaten Brock already with Pokemon to spare.'' Says Cobalt.

''You must Cobalt, right? Ash talks a lot about you and Gary, I'm Misty.'' Misty says introducing herself.

''I know who you are, I do my research. Family included.'' Cobalt says.

''I see.'' Misty says quietly.

''As for you Ash, you'll have to wait to challenge Brock, my Girl will be challenging him next. And like me, Acerola already has a full team.'' Says Cobalt.

''In that case, let's you and me have a battle together!'' Ash challenges him, causing Cobalt to look down blankly.

''I'll be honest Ash, I'm not too inclined to battle right now, but if nothing else it does present me an opportunity to get some extra training in and I wouldn't mind giving some of my Pokemon in rotation the chance to battle. Fuck it, why not? You and me will battle after Acerola beats Brock.'' Cobalt tells his friend from Pallet town, though calling him a friend was being generous. As children they were friends, but his time abroad had interrupted that.

''Sounds good, I can't wait.'' Ash says.

''Well, you're gonna have to. Acerola likes to draw out her battles. Even more than me, and Rapooh is no joke.'' Says Cobalt.

--------------------------------

(POV Shift: Ash Ketchum)

--------------------------------

Ash knew Cobalt had a girlfriend, but he didn't know how skilled she was in Pokemon Battling. She trounced Brock easily, but she drew it out, giving him the opportunity to showcase his skills and everything. Now the time had come for Ash to battle Cobalt. He'd beat Cobalt and then he'd beat Brock, just his first steps to the Pokemon League, becoming Champion, and ultimately a Pokemon Master.

This should be an easy victory!

(Author's Note:)

--------------------------------

I know some are probably disappointed I didn't show Acerola's victory over Brock or Ash-vs-Cobalt. But I have my reasons believe me. And in any case, this chapter was to cover my lack of foresight in buying a book for Aethan's next chapter. Not Initially of course, but I needed a chapter to put on P-atreon and this won the poll and it also had the least work to be done. Given that I was able to buy the relevant book quickly despite my initial belief this was the unexpectedly best solution,

Anyway I'll leave you to it, as I have lots more chapters to work on and complete.
