Chapter 2 - Dr Jagoda

Dr. Jagoda brought in a few nurses with masks and helped Serov to another ward as if he were an infectious patient while asking a few nurses to disarm Serov, including the TT33 pistol at his waist.

"Wait a minute. My wife must be by my side so that I subconsciously do not resist your actions!" In his big pants and white undershirt, Serov stopped Jagoda's move to tell Valya to wait outside.

Having received the doctor's approval, Serov cooperated with this extraordinary examination. They held all his clothes in Valya's arms, and the pistol that never left his body was in the hands of his trusted woman. All that remained of Serov's body was a white undershirt with a single line printed in red Russian on the back, Sniff Out and Find the Traitor. This was Cheka's original purpose, the KGB's predecessor.

"I thought there was something different about the Operational Technical Directorate. It looks pretty generic too!" Serov sat in his chair with a flat face, but Dr. Jagoda had little leisure to bullshit, checking the operation of the instruments from time to time, and then returned to look at Serov twice.

Serov, who was miserably surrounded by people in the middle of the room, at this time had no authority as the director of the Main Directorate of Military Counter-Intelligence but rather looked like a mouse waiting to be dissected, with four wires glued to his head connected to the machine. If it were not for the trust of his soul watching from one side, he would not have been able to calm down. That said, who designed this testing machine? How is it so similar to the torture machine of the Directorate of Political Police?

"All of you leave first!" After Dr. Jagoda examined it for half a day and several nurses went out, he said with uncertainty, "Lieutenant General Serov, your brain waves in four bands are about three times higher than normal!"

"So there's something wrong with my head!" Serov blandly stood up, took the clothes, and did not feel the tension of the woman in front of him and asked, "But I have not found myself in an abnormal situation recently, except that I always have nightmares when I sleep. Could it be that I will die because of the dreams? Are you telling me a children's story?"

"General, you misunderstood my meaning!" Dr. Jagoda said eloquently with a flip of his white coat, "All the waves of your brain waves are about three times more than normal. It's not like some of them are at normal levels, and some are too strong! Overall, it was in a very balanced state, so I conclude that you do not have a mental illness..."

This might be considered good news, as Serov put on his uniform with the assistance of Valya and asked with a puzzled look, "Since my brain waves are so much stronger than normal, is there any benefit to it?"

"Maybe you will have a very good memory and achieve unforgettably!" Dr. Jagoda is not very sure, "But I personally suggest that you do some high-intensity exercise regularly, especially physically so that you can use up the excess energy that goes out and helps the quality of sleep ..."

"I understand!" Serov tied the armed belt to set up the holster and finally fastened the pistol. He was waiting for his blood test report and did his body check only after Valeria's repeated requests. Otherwise, Serov would have fled halfway.

Without making Serov wait too long, a nurse brought in the test report a few minutes later. Dr. Jagoda took a general glance and said very easily, "Lieutenant General Serov, your body is described as exceptional in any respect. It is almost like a professional athlete..."

"I am thirty years old!" Serov lightly reminded a sentence, this age, of course, during the peak of the body, yet with your words? As for the physical quality of a professional athlete, Serov is scoffing. No one knows himself better than he does. Serov belongs to the kind of person who can sit and rarely stand and rarely exercise. How can he have that kind of physical quality?

"No, what I said is not wrong at all!" Jagoda looked solemnly and said decisively, "Your physical quality is very good, absolutely no less than the professional athletes from our country who have focused on training..."

"But didn't you say that all my indicators are within the realm of normal people?" Serov felt that this expert in the field of psychiatry was not a sibyl, and the logic before and after the conversation was somewhat contradictory.

"An African elephant and a newborn baby elephant are very different in strength, but they are both elephants! There is no difference between the two regarding examination indicators, and it would be foolish to use conventional data analysis to find the difference!" Dr. Jagoda said, scratching his Mediterranean hair.

Hmm! Serov agreed indifferently. Thinking about it, it's still useless. It's not the age of cold weapons; the body is not bullet-proof. Still, listening to the doctor's words is important, so Serov stood up, walked to Dr. Jagoda, and thanked him, "You must keep my arrival at the hospital today for an examination secret! Otherwise, you are welcome in Kazan! Later, when I leave, all the test reports will be destroyed, understand?"

With these words, this expert in psychiatry was in a cold sweat and seemed to be a little wet at the back. When he saw the probing look of the pretty woman behind Serov, he said in a pretended calm voice, "This is all that we should do as doctors ..."

"Thank you!" A smile flashed across Serov's face as he turned his head, took Valya's small hand, and left the ward.

Only then did Jagoda breathe a sigh of relief and whisper, "I heard that the youngest of the directors of the KGB, Lieutenant General Serov, loves his wife very much, and he is indeed right ..."

Half an hour later, Serov, wearing leather gloves, returned the torch, which had run out of gasoline, to the soldier on duty here, before slowly greeting Valya, who was waiting in the hall to get into the car. The two were so engrossed before they came that they forgot to take the car to the garage, and when both came out, they ran into a regular winter event where the gas tank of the sedan was frozen. Serov can not let his women do this kind of thing naturally. He also refused the soldiers to help him personally. He squatted on top of the snow and baked the car for half an hour.

"Is it cold?" After getting into the car, Valya covered Serov's ears with her hands. She just saw all the busy work for half an hour, which was normal, but this perfect woman was very touched.

"If there is no problem detected, it means it's fine! You have to believe in science!" Feeling the warmth of the woman's hands, Serov reassured in turn as Valya winked mischievously and skillfully started the sedan and left the headquarters of the Operational Technical Directorate.
