Chapter 1 - Again

Silence filled the air, nothing but an empty room with a simple light from the window illuminating the bed. There was a petite figure beneath the messy sheets, a still figure so frozen they would be mistaken for a statue. One loud knock echoed through the room, coming from the door opposite the bed.

"Young miss, it's dawn; the lord will be displeased to hear you haven't awoken." The voice was monotoned with no fluctuations. The person behind the door had a high-pitched voice, young sounding, hinting at the individual being a young girl. The lack of emotion in the voice made one question the notion that this individual was young. Some time passed with the silence returning before the sheets began to move, and the figure in the bed rose from its slumber. The light exposed the child's face, which was about the size of a palm. Their lips were pale, and their eyes were glossed over, appearing detached from reality. With trembling hands, the small girl wrapped her porcelain fingers around her neck. There was no power behind this gesture, just a light, fleeting touch as they remained silent.

"Young miss, I am coming in." the childish voice rang through as the door knob moved and the door opened. The door exposed a small child about nine years old standing steadily with a formal posture. The child wore a maid's outfit while she had soft features befitting her age. There was no emotion on her face, merely simple calmness and steady gestures similar to an adult.

"A-Annabelle?" The girl sitting on the bed asked in bewilderment, staring daggers at the maid who had just entered the room. The small bell-like voice filled the room. The volume was low, but the sound was unmistakable. "Yes, young miss? How can I be of assistance?" there was a steadiness in her reply as she approached the bed, standing a foot away from the lady. The young lady's face went pale as her expression filled with dread. "Bring me a mirror." The girl said with a slightly trembling voice as she slowly stilled her expression, now appearing unaffected. "Miss? Perhaps there is something amiss?" Annabelle asked cautiously, affected somewhat by the young lady's strange request and behavior. "Do you dare to question me? Must I tell you twice? I would refrain from making me repeat myself." The young girl said with a cold voice as her expression twisted slightly, showing apparent anger and animosity. The air in the room became icy as the atmosphere became heavier. "Yes, young miss, right away!" Annabelle quickly got the hint of correcting herself and retrieved a mirror for the lady. The tiny hands reached out, bringing the mirror to her face as her expression became even colder. There was no emotion on her face making her appear unapproachable and stoic. Her long lilac curls draped over her shoulders gently as her white pupils narrower slightly, scanning her young face. There were no blemishes on her porcelain skin. In contrast, she held her fierce expression and prideful posture; her eyes appeared doll-like.

"Get out." She said softly yet firmly.

"Pardon?" Annabelle replied, slightly perplexed.

"I said get out! Do you not understand your native tongue?" She said harshly with an intimidating air about her.

"Miss, it's time for breakfast. If you don't come with me to meet the lord, there will be punishment later." Annabelle replied firmly, seemingly unfazed by the outburst of her young miss.

"I am well aware, Annabelle. Do not make me repeat myself, and know your place!" she said unwavering as she stood up from the bed, throwing the mirror towards Annabell. The mirror flew passed her face grazing her hair and slamming into the door behind her.

"As you wish, young miss. I understand and will inform the lord of your absence from breakfast." Annabelle said softly, turning around and leaving the room with unhurried steps. Promptly after the door closed, the girl grabbed her bed sheets and wrapped them into a nuce with a hand motion. She shoots it up to the ceiling and uses a mysterious force to freeze it to the ceiling. She quickly grabs a chair and, with unhesitant motions, stands on the chair, putting her head into the nuce, jumping off the chair, and strangling herself. Her breathing halted, and her body was limp, dangling lifelessly from the ceiling. The air was still, and silence was reintroduced to the surrounding room.

...

Silence filled the air, nothing but an empty room with a simple light from the window illuminating the bed. There was a petite figure beneath the messy sheets, a still figure so frozen they would be mistaken for a corpse. One loud knock echoed through the room, coming from the door opposite the bed.

"Young miss, it's dawn; the lord will be displeased to hear you haven't awoken." The childlike voice came from the door—the childish voice of Annabelle.
