Chereads / Despise To Love You / Chapter 3 - The Trailer Launch

Chapter 3 - The Trailer Launch

The trailer launch came sooner than Midnight expected and her parents had called her to congratulate her. She was an only child and her parents loved her very much. When she said she wanted to become an actress, both of them did whatever they could to make her dreams come true in return she had to do her Honours in any subject she liked before going to an acting school so Midnight did her Honours in English literature and after graduating from there she went on to study acting in the New York film academy.

Her parents, Alex and Amanda have always cheered her up which at times made her feel guilty because she hasn’t been able to achieve anything big but they never complained, not even close. They always reminded her how proud they were of their daughter. After promising that she will call them very soon, she had ended the call and was now getting ready for her trailer launch. Unfortunately, her mortal enemy, Xavier is going to be in the same venue too. His movie was also releasing at the same time and somehow even his trailer launch got roped up on the same day as hers. Not to mention, they haven’t exchanged a single text after that day and she ignored the disappointed feeling in her tummy.

Also he was very good friends with the director, actually he was nice to everyone except for her. Maybe it’s because he thinks she is not talented enough and even she thinks that since she keeps on getting boring roles. But she still pulled herself and smiled at her reflection in the mirror. She was wearing a white dress that was backless and it hugged her slim figure perfectly.

“Do you like your makeup?” Sarah, her makeup artist asks.

“Are you kidding, Sarah?” She asks, her smile growing wider, “I love it Sarah, you always do it right.”

Someone knocks at the door and then steps inside her house. It was Sam and he looked in a good mood. Even though Sam wasn’t someone who smiled much, Midnight could read him like a book mostly because she has known him since such a long time. “Well, you look pretty. The car is ready, we should get going, the director is already on his way.”

“Let’s get going then.”

Xavier was standing outside the room waiting for his actors to arrive and was chatting with Tom. They were both excited about their own movies and were randomly chatting about anything. Then Xavier looked sideways to see Midnight approaching them and she was looking beautiful as always. Their eyes meet briefly before she immediately looks away and walks over to greet Tom.

“Look at you, always on time.” Tom greets her and she chuckles. “I am gonna check on the rest of the team, why don’t you chat with Mr Cavanaugh till then?”

Midnight was about to protest but Tom was already gone leaving her with him. Her face was screaming for help and it was very amusing for Xavier as he couldn’t help but smile widely. And they were alone in this big, empty room having nothing to do except to stay there. Also, the fact that Midnight looked like a pure angel in that white dress and how her thick dark hair fell down in soft waves. Her dark eyes were filled with nervousness and when she looked up into his blue ones, he found himself mesmerised. The air suddenly felt heavy as none of them broke eye contact.

“You’re staring.” Midnight whispers, ignoring the feeling of her skin burning and subdueing her flushed cheeks.

“You’re delusional.” he lies smoothly and he liked how it seemed to bother her. “Does that bother you, Midnight?”

Midnight’s heart skips a beat. “No, of course not.”

Buit Xavier could see she was lying, her movements revealed she was tense. The way she kept on running her hands through her hair and she was licking her lips. He clicks his tongue when she does it the fifth time. “You need to stop doing that?”

“Stop what?”

“Licking away your lipstick.”

She rolled her eyes but stopped it. “Are you always this bossy?”

“Are you always eating your lipstick?” he chuckles.

“Why do you care?”

And she was right, why did he care? He wasn’t even supposed to be talking to her. His smile vanishes and returns to his normal, guarded expression which didn’t go unnoticed by Midnight. Did she say something wrong? But before she could ask him about it, Tom enters the room with Caleb who immediately came to hug Midnight to greet her.

Xavier looks away and walks inside the room clenching his jaw. Midnight frowns as her eyes follow him but she decides to ignore it as Caleb and Tom step inside the room to give the press interview, with Xavier’s expression still haunting her in the back of her mind.

— — —

A little later the entire team arrived as well and the journalists were asking a number of questions but no one really had any questions for Midnight. And even though Caleb tried to involve her but it wasn’t enough. She was feeling like a trophy who was just sitting there to attract the crowd but more than herself she was feeling bad about her fans who came all the way here to encourage her so even though her heart was breaking, she was smiling for them.

But her reverie broke when one journalist said that she had a question for her and Midnight’s entire face lit up like a christmas tree. “Hi Midnight, first of all you are looking absolutely stunning in white.”

“Thank you so much.” Midnight says with a smile.

“So my question is, how are you feeling about your movie coming just two days before of Mr Cavanugh’s?”

Her smile slightly falters as she looks over at Tom who just sits there awkwardly trying to ignore looking at Midnight. “Well, I have heard great things about the movie and we all know that Mr Cavanaugh’s story lines are always amazing…I would definitely like to see this movie in my free time.”

“Does it mean you two are friends now because I saw the two of you talking outside?” She inquires further. “Is there any chance you will work in his movies?”

Seeing that the interview was changing its course from about the movie to Midnight getting all the attention, Tom decided to interfere. “Can we please stick to the questions related to the movie and not make Miss Midnight uncomfortable?”

But Midnight had enough so she decided to answer the question, “We are working in the same industry for a pretty long time so we respect each other because of that and sometimes it involves having conversations too. And as for working with him, I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon. The characters he writes are too bold for me,”

Although the characters are too bold she still finds them intriguing and makes her want to know more about Xavier as well but she wasn’t ready to admit that in front of the world. And to be honest, she wasn’t supposed to answer anything related to him but when it comes to Xavier, something inside of her stirs making her want to bend down her own rules. She was like a moth attracted to his flame and even though she might end up getting burned, she never really cared.

And she hated that, she hated to lose control whenever it came to Xavier even though she knew he would never feel the same way she did. He actually disliked her, unlike her who was just pretending. Xavier would never understand the feeling of wanting to know someone so badly that you draw a line.
