Meanwhile, in another place, far from the cave… A man with ripe muscles could be seen, drenched in buckets of sweat.
He had two heavy rods in his grasp. This rod was as thick as a human, but he easily lifted it up and down.
Sometime later, the man tossed the rod to the ground as he strode to the other part of the room where a punching bag was dangling.
In the punching bag was a wrongly spelled 'Nightmare.'
He started punching the bag with force capable of dealing death to ordinary humans.
"If it's not for you. I wouldn't have joined that stupid organization!" Karen Kayne grimaced as he did a flurry of attacks on the bag.
In his mind, the bag was Nightmare. Since he couldn't catch the real thing, he made an imaginary one for himself.
For the past weeks, Kayne had trained vigorously without a breather. He knew he could probably deal with the Nightmare, but he still trained because…he hated surprises.
And so far, that's what Nightmare has been doing.
'Just a no-name rookie villain that I overlooked, now he has turned into a monster, a monster that has killed my friends.'
As he thought about this, his boxing pace accelerated as he unleashed all his strengths into his punch. A bit of time passed before the bag burst into bits and the rope snapped.
'I wish I had killed him then, he wouldn't have turned out like this. He wouldn't be giving me a headache. He wouldn't have killed Sherman's son." Kayne said this like a mantra in his head.
Not too long ago, When Nightmare had just started acting like a villain, Kayne had caught him. But instead of killing him like the way he usually did with villains, he left Nightmare since he could tell that the latter was just a teen
He saw the burning hatred from Nightmare's slits that night for the supes. It was like the teenager had something personal with the supes, unlike the other villains who did it because they loved crime.
'Beaumont, you're right. I'm too soft. Unlike Me, you didn't consider his age when you drove that sword into his heart.'
"I bet I couldn't do that." Kayne chuckled lightly as he started leaving the room. He gazed back at the room which only had a Nightmare, Nightmare, carved in the wall.
Immediately he stepped out of the room, a scrawny-looking man in a suit came rushing towards him. The man looked like an assistant or sort.
"Boss, you have a message from the Meta organization."
"Who is it from?!"
The assistant knew what his boss was asking about. It was no secret that only the top men of the meta-organization contacted Kayne, so he wanted to know which of them.
"It's the leader of the alpha squad, and it seems like it's an important message." The assistant said.
'Now what does that asdhole want from me.' Kayne thought lazily. 'I've told him I can't be second in command. Do I need to scream it in his face?!'
The meta-organization had several different squads operating under them. It was safe to say that it was similar to their division and these squads were tasked with dealing with the villains and anything super-related.
The Alpha Squad was such a Squad. However, it wasn't any squad in the meta-organization. It was in the top 3 strongest squads. Only this alone would make a lot of people respect them, but Kayne wasn't like that.
"Sir, it seems like this one is more important than the last calls." The assistant suddenly said when he noticed the bored look in Kayne's eyes.
"Why did you say so? If I could remember, nothing good has ever come from those calls."
"Well, this one is not just an ordinary call. It was said that Beaumont, your classmate, gave a direct order to the alpha squad leader."
"Beaumont?" Kayne paused on his steps. "Since it's him, it should be something important. As much as I'd like to avoid those calls, I can't do it. Dang, it!"
Sometime later, Kayne said, "Take me to him."
"Yes sir." The assistant proceeded to lead Kayne through a series of doors before they stopped at what appeared to be offices.
The office had no books, just a desk, and two seats. Kayne slumped on the seat as the Assistance brought an apple laptop to him. With some light tap, the screen flicked and showed the person Kayne wanted to avoid at all costs.
"Hey, Kayne, you finally answered the call," a fox masked man said from the other side.
"Go straight to the point, Fox, why did you call me? And make it quick, but I've to warn you. If you ask me to be your second in command, you can say bye–bye to ever calling me again."
"Calm down. Would you? Your assistance might have already told you, but Beaumont wants me to deliver a message to you."
'Why can't he just deliver it straight to me?' Kayne thought as he listened to what the fox-masked person said.
"I hate to admit but he wants me to step down for you. You can finally leave that tiny super cop and join the Alpha squad as our new leader."
If it was another person, the fox-masked man wouldn't have just stepped down like that. But the person was Beaumont, and that guy was like a role model for all of them.
Kayne also had the same feeling for Beaumont even though the duo were classmates in the super academy.
Beaumont was the best super student of their batch. On numerous occasions, Kayne had challenged the latter in a duel, but the result has always been him getting trashed around.
Because of this numerous trashing, the two somehow became close, and they started training together.
"So when are you stepping down? Have you submitted your resignation letter to the big boss?"
"Calm down, bro, I just heard the news today, and it would take me some time to fill all those papers. Also before I forget, this is temporary. After you kill that Nightmare or whatsoever his name is, you'd step down-"
"Agreed," Kayne replied without letting the latter finish:
"I don't care about your dumb ass organization, actually. I just want to annihilate just one person.
"I'm even accepting this offer because it's from Beaumont, and it's because only your stupid organization can provide me the resources I need so…
…After I kill Ruby Rose, I'll happily step down."
