On Huji, the two of them flew towards the gap opening. The moment they both entered the passage way; Xue Yiran suddenly felt a sense of weightlessness. Her whole body was falling downward at a rapid pace. Summoning out her wind ability, she cushioned herself and landed steadily onto the ground. Ian also settled beside her.
"What just happened." Confused by the sudden development, Ian saw Huji who had mysteriously appeared inside his contract space. When they flew in, he had felt a blocked in his contract connection with Huji and before he knew what was happening, Huji was forcefully resummoned back to his consciousness. "It looks like a restriction prohibiting people from summoning out their contract beast has been placed here."
Hearing this, Xue Yiran tries to see if she could summon Sky out, but all she felt was a restrictive shield preventing her from establishing any connection with him. "You're right." She responded.
Examining the dark passage before her, one couldn't tell what was settled inside. But since Susu hadn't detected any beastly aura nearby, she felt that it was safe to explore. Reaching into her storage ring, she brought out a flashlight. Pressing on the switch, the bright light revealed the total interior of the passage.
In front of them was a long step that seems to lead to the next floor.
"Let's go see what is up there." Saying that, the two of them walked forward.
While climbing, Xue Yiran gaze was entirely glued on the steps. The stairways were black in color and one could hardly discern the materials they were made of. If Susu hadn't informed her that they were made from the hides of a SSS rank beast, she would have totally ignored it.
When it seems like they've been climbing on for long, the two finally arrived at the first floor. Flashing the light around, Xue Yiran saw that there was nothing peculiar about the first floor. All that was there was an empty floor along with a bare wall. They were about to head on to the next floor when a mechanical voice suddenly sounded.
~Welcome, visitors to the Abyssal research center~
The sudden mechanical voice took both Ian and Xue Yiran by surprise. However, they both took notice of what the voice had said. A research center? Could it be they had walked into a research facilities run by some occult organization.
At the same time, a red infrared light appeared, scanning all over their body.
~Ding. Detecting no potential threat on body. Granting access~
The moment the voice ended, the wall in front of them split opened revealing another passage. The light sensors simultaneously lit up, revealing the interior of the passage. Looking at the bright passage in front of them, Xue Yiran and Ian turned to looked at each other.
"Hmm." Ian nodded his head.
Receiving the other party approval, Xue Yiran puts away the flashlight and walked forward. Ian followed behind her. The opened wall behind them shut back and the entire floor returned back to it clam state.
While heading in, Xue Yiran made noticed of the huge glass tubes across the distance that was bubbling with green liquid substance. Just from the color alone, one could tell that they were all nutrient solution liquid.
'Could this be an abandoned research center meant for the making of nutrients solution?'
Soon, her steps paused and she look backward at Ian. "Why don't we split up and look around the area."
"That…" Ian was taken aback by her sudden suggestion. They were in an unknown strange place. Isn't it the best that they stick close to each together.
Xue Yiran saw the hesitation in his eyes and immediately explained. "It will be quite dawdling if the both of us explore this place while sticking close to each other. Don't you think it will be much efficient if we work separately."
Ian was silent for a while before agreeing. "Okay. Call out my name if there's any danger."
"I will." Xue Yiran nodded.
"Then, I'll go to the other side." He said before heading over to the direction he pointed at.
Seeing his departing figure, Xue Yiran breathes a sigh of relief.
'Why did you keep insisting that I split apart with him?' The question was directed at a certain system in her consciousness.
[It's a feeling. I just don't like him.] Susu answered.
Xue Yiran didn't know what crime Ian had commit for him to be detested by Susu this much. Could it be there was a vendetta between them that she was unaware of. She could only feel sorry for him in her heart. She suddenly recalled something and asked, "What do you mean by there's something strange here?"
When they entered the building earlier, Susu had said that there was something strange about the laboratory.
[I feel like there's something watching us. I felt it existence when we entered. However, that thing seems to have detected my presence and went into hiding.]
There was something watching them. Xue Yiran guard rises when she heard this.
'Didn't you say earlier that this is an illusion.'
[Hmm. There's indeed an illusion set up in the surrounding area. The thick forest you saw earlier is the illusion is set up to protect this place. However, you don't have to worry. For that thing to have gone into hiding, it must be clearly afraid of me.]
'What about the strange mechanical voice?' Xue Yiran asked once more.
[That's just the command system left behind by the former employees.]
Still, knowing that there was something watching them, Xue Yiran watched her surrounding vigilantly. She began to stroll around the lab. Seeing an opened door, she slowly approached it and peered inside the room.
Inside, was a long table with several chairs around it. It looks like this was where the staffs have their meeting. Except for the dust filled furniture's, there was nothing special about the room. She retreated her head and move towards the other rooms.
But before she could began looking around, she suddenly heard her name being called.
"Come over here, Xue Yiran!" Ian shouted.
Worried that something might have occurred, Xue Yiran hurriedly dashed forward.
She saw one of the doors opened and immediately dashed inside. The moment she stepped into the room; her charge suddenly halted. Standing before her were thousands of giant humanoid robots. Each of them stood several meters tall, radiating a dangerous aura.
"Ian." Xue Yiran called out when she didn't spot Ian figure.
"Over here." Ian's voice answered from the distance.
Turning her head towards the source of the voice, she discovered him standing in front of a wall; gazing at it intently. Walking up to him, she began asking, "What is wrong? Did anything happened?"
Ian had a serious expression on his face as he turned to look at Xue Yiran. "Take a look at this." In his hand was the strange device he had just picked up from this room. He switched on the button at the side and soon, the wall in front of them suddenly lit up. No, it shouldn't be called a wall but instead a screen.
