1st person Pov:
"Young master, why did you give all the credit to the church?" Cynthia asked me while we were traveling to our next destination. She was obviously asking why I gave all the credit for punishing the piggy of Dowan barony. "Well, the reason is obvious, isn't it? It's because I am a generous person and love exalting the goddess's followers." Why the need to ask for a reason at all? I am a good person. Why would she even question that?
I looked at Cynthia with a hurt expression but she kept staring at me with a monotone face. I guess she didn't buy that. "To mislead my enemies. Think about it. The baron does not know who we were. One way or another he will inform his superiors and what happened to him will come to light soon enough." I said to her. She seemed a bit surprised at my words. "Wouldn't you know if he tries something like that?"
Of course, I would. But that's not the point. "I can but I don't have the time to keep an eye on him all the time. But I won't stop him from doing so as I am counting on him to do exactly that." Cynthia's eyes became even more confused at my words but before she could ask, I continued to clarify by asking her a question, "Now as I said, when he informs his superiors about us, what would he say to them?"
She didn't answer but she seemed to have gotten my point. "Exactly. The only clue we left behind about our identity is that we are the inquisitors of the Church. In other words, we are people of the church, subordinates of Cardinal Jordan to be exact."
"But why would you do that?" she asked after I clarified my point. "It's because he tried to kill me on my first awakening ceremony. Don't ask how I know though. I won't answer." Her eyes widened when she heard the first part then anger showed up but before she could erupt, I told her my stance on the matter.
"Now, I have two major enemies right now. One, the Cardinal, who is trying to kill me for some reason. Two, Duke Heraiz, who is trying to use me in his schemes and become a superpower of the Carenheim kingdom by enslaving my parents. The baron we visited and the nobles and officials that we will be visiting in these two years are all affiliated with Duke Heraiz. What would happen when both of my enemies are pitted against each other and hopefully fight each other without even knowing the reason for their fighting?"
"They would weaken themselves and there won't be any major danger to us." She understood my intentions somewhat. But, "No major danger at all. I have already taken care of that. Tell me, how is the task of the rumors about me progressing?" I asked her to clarify the complete picture.
"It has been going smoothly. We have contained the rumors in the Revstein territory but still some exaggerations have escaped to the surrounding towns and villages." She meaningfully said. "There is nothing we can do about it. For now, just focus on containing them."
"But what is the connection of these rumors with what you are doing right now?" She's impatient. But let's satiate her curiosity. "When all of this happens, a war, literal or a cold one, will break out. When the war is finished, the parties will come together to discuss the reason with a clear mind. Then they will realize that they have fallen into a trap. A trap laid by someone else."
"Then, their attention will turn to the common target that they have. Me. But it's not me they will think about. Why would they? I will be in a coma. They will think that these rumors are false as no one would have been able to confirm them, but I have already covered that part. They won't think that it's me but my guardian angel."
"Your guardian angel?" She asked curiously when I stopped talking. I knew she would ask about it. "When the Cardinal tried to poison me, I killed the person he had assigned the task to. But the way I had handled it, they must have thought that I had someone protecting me. They won't for a moment think that a child was capable of doing that."
"When the Nobles and the Church would come together, the cardinal would definitely mention my guardian angel, and Heraiz would believe this story as well considering what I will be doing to his allies now."
"And then, they will all follow an enemy that doesn't exist at all and keep hunting a ghost. And I would have sufficient time to make further plans and deal with them. And it would also give me time to exploit the weaknesses their scuffle would expose. I will make them bleed slowly." I accounted the whole plan to her while looking at the starry sky.
"Why not just get rid of them?" Of course, that is a logical thing to do. Death is the only way to get rid of all variables. But that would not be my way of doing things. "Do you believe in hell Cynthia?" I asked in return instead of answering her question. She stared at me but did not say anything.
I continued without her answering, "I don't know if Hell exists or not but if it does, I don't know if they will be punished for their crimes properly. I don't know if Hell would punish them properly and that makes me restless. What if they are not suffering enough? This thought would haunt me for a very long time."
"So, I'd rather punish them myself until I am satisfied. I will be at peace then. I won't be haunted by regret then."
I said the last part while looking at her and I didn't need her to say anything, her eyes said it all, "You scare me sometimes Young master." But she said it anyway. I chuckled a little at her words and nodded. "Yeah, maybe I am scary," I said while shaking my head. I then turned serious and said to her, "That is why it is absolutely necessary that rumors about me spread slowly. This task needs to be handled flawlessly."
Sensing the seriousness in my words she nodded her head and said, "You can trust me, young master. I will never fail you." I smiled at her words and then said, "Do it right and I will reward you." She flinched a little at my words but still nodded.
