Chapter 68 - Chapter 68

1st person Pov:

Adventurer's guild. A place for adventurers. A profession that is the literal definition of high-risk high-reward. Most of the awakened die in this profession but still, it is the most wanted one. Reason? It pays a lot. Even E-rank adventurers earn a lot if they are doing it right.

We arrived in Silvermore county yesterday, but it seems that our target is out for fun. The count is scheduled to return from a hunting trip in a week. Had it not been necessary to deal with him, I would have moved on to my next target. So that leaves the problem of how I should utilize this time. And the answer that I arrived at is this, become an adventurer.

Adventurers have a few privileges that are very lucrative to me. And not counting the fact that it pays a lot. We walked through the gates of a large building in the middle of the town. The building was almost as big as the count's castle. Adventurer guild doesn't fall under the authority of the kingdom or under any kingdom at all. It's a separate organization just like the Astral church or merchant associations.

The inside of the place reminded me of a tavern where people get together to eat and drink and share stories or exaggerate them. The right section of the building was for people to sit and drink. The left section was for the adventurers to pick jobs and form parties together. In the front or north part of the building were reception desks where beautiful girls, probably for attracting patrons were tending to the adventurers. I also headed there as I was not an adventurer and I needed to register first.

We both reached a desk and the receptionist said, "How can I help you, ma'am?" Only when she addressed our group in such a manner that I realized that I was being overshadowed by the desk as I was not that tall yet for her to notice me.

"Kuhum. Not ma'am, Sir." Emphasis on sir. Only then she looked down and was a bit taken aback. Of course, she would be. What was a child doing in the guild? Not to mention when he had a mask on.

A mask you say? Well, of course, I am wearing a mask. I am not just going to go around with my real face or waste gold coins on the mask of deception for two whole years. And this will be my new identity.

[Mask of Vener Novak

A high-quality mask crafted by the great artificer Vener to cover his face when he would infiltrate women's bathrooms.

Effects:

Active:

#1: Can erase the scent of the wearer when mana is supplied. Mana must be constantly supplied

#2: Short-distance teleportation (5 meters). Cost: 30 Mp

Passive:

#1: Blocks mental manipulation

#2: Cannot be seen through]

Now I know that the description is weird, and the effects are totally for peeping and running afterward if caught, but I have not used it for doing the same. Well, I have but only on Cynthia. But that was purely for the sake of experimenting. My intentions were not impure. And the results were mind-blowing. A wet Cynthia is a sight to behold. Totally worth spending ten thousand gold.

If used in battle, this mask can be of big help. Another advantage of the things that I buy from the shop is that they can turn invisible if I desire. In other words, I can forever wear this mask, which allows me mental protection and teleportation. Not to mention that teleportation is a very rare magic that can only be used by space mages.

The receptionist looked at me surprised for a bit but then again turned her attention to Cynthia who was looking back at her. I could tell that that made her uncomfortable, as she was a blank slate with no expression, but it made more sense to speak to her than it did by talking to me.

Cynthia after staring for some time spoke, "I and my companion would like to register ourselves as adventurers." That was all. Well, I should be glad she said this much. The receptionist again looked at me but failed to see anything past my mask which did not even have eye holes. "I am sorry, but the minimum age required for applying is ten."

Not like I didn't expect this. "It's okay. It is merely for training. This is my disciple. For practical knowledge, he has to explore dungeons. Rest assured that I will be forever with him and there will be no harm to his life." Cynthia explained to her. The receptionist nodded in understanding. A lot of experts usually register their disciples as adventurers. Only they have to pay five times higher. Luckily, money wasn't an issue.

"Very well. You will have to pay the registration fee and after you are done filling out this form, you will have to follow me to the test room for testing your class. Or you can take the F-rank adventurer cards and promote yourselves by completing tasks." She told us what we had to do. If we took the test, they would give us a rank according to our evaluation. But if we don't, we can still be F-rank adventurers and rise in rankings by doing tasks or completing special missions given by the guild.

"We will take the test." This is easier. I can fake my test results anyway. What I need is for Cynthia to show her strength. That would turn some eyes in our direction. And under the observation of those eyes, I will shine. I need everyone to notice me. A talent they don't know about. And with Cynthia changing her look and the fact that almost no one knows her, they will be curious about me. I intend to fully exploit everyone and then disappear after what I need to do is done.

"Please follow me then." The receptionist said and started walking. She led us through a corridor and while we were walking, explained the procedure of the test to us. "The test is very simple. First is a magic test, that will test your mana to determine your grade. And then there is a physical evaluation. If you are a mage, then you will have to take the magic casting evaluation test."

For mages and warriors, I see. Both possess mana so everyone has to take the first test. The second test depends on whether you are a mage or a warrior. "What about the people who are proficient in both?" I asked after her explanation. She looked at me for a while with astonished eyes. I guess she understood the underlying meaning. Hiding her astonishment, she said, "Well magic swordsmen are rare, but we do have an expert who can take an evaluation. Or you could just take the second test for both classes separately."

"I see. Thank you very much for explaining it to me." I said when we stopped in front of a room. She smiled and said, "No problem. You can take the first test here. And they will guide you to where you have to take the third test. You can decide about the second test yourself." She said to us and left after politely bowing.
