Chapter 4 - Chapter Two: Old Time Wine

I stood on my tiptoes and reached for the old dust-covered bottle of my favorite wine out of the top shelf in the cellar. I dusted it off and admired the bottle. Ah yes, there's nothing like wine from 1817. I closed the cabinet and headed back to the kitchen. The smell of freshly picked basil, ripe tomatoes, and different spices floated throughout the house as I entered my overly spacious kitchen. I grabbed the spoon and stirred the sauce one more time. The sauce appeared to be done so I turned off the burner and let it simmer until it finally cooled down. While I was grabbing a plate and silverware, I poured myself a glass of wine while jazz music played softly in the background. Jazz music always had this way of calming me down, especially after last night's events. I made my way back to the stove and whipped up a plate for myself. After taking one look at the masterpiece I just created, I knew it was gonna be a good night. As I walked towards the table, something moved outside my window but before I could even investigate, it had vanished.. Hmm, that's odd. Eh, it was probably just an animal or the shadow from the trees moving around in the wind. I shrugged away the thoughts and headed back towards the table and sat down. Let's just say my plate of spaghetti didn't last very long and neither did the wine. Last night's events kept replaying in my mind but I pushed it away with those remaining sips of wine.

Barely able to remember how I managed to climb up the stairs, I opened up the small closet that was in the hallway outside the bathroom and grabbed two big bath towels and a washcloth. I closed the door behind me and sat my towels on the counter. As I was standing in front of the mirror I took out the overstretched black hair tie and watched my wavy brown hair tumble down past my broad shoulders. The shower was going to need time to warm up so I waited. To keep the boredom at bay, brushing my teeth seemed like the best solution. After a few minutes had gone by I slipped into the shower with ease and shut the thick shower curtain behind me. I closed my eyes as the water made its way down my body. The sound of water droplets hitting against the wall was enticing to my ears and seemed to have a relaxing effect. If I focus on the sound for too much longer, I would probably go right to sleep. With that thought in mind, the shampoo seemed like a good place to start. Two pumps usually get the job done but tonight I was probably going to have to add another just for extra cleaning power. Once again I closed my eyes and washed the suds out of my thick hair. While rinsing my hair, I had a flashback but for some odd reason it didn't feel like it had happened very long ago. There was a guy, with somewhat long brown hair that came just past his eyes. I couldn't make out every detail but from what I could tell he had blue eyes with specks of green that swirled around his iris. He was tall but we were pretty much eye level to each other. I felt like I had known him for years. Everything was hazy at first but I could still make out what was going on until it became clear as the flashback progressed.

Hints of crisp autumn leaves and pumpkin spice lingered in the air around me. The sound of leaves crunching beneath the footsteps of young college students wandering the campus late into the evening. Clearly this dream was something I was familiar with and had even experienced before. A man called out my name and to my surprise he looked just like the complete stranger that I just met last night. What was even more strange is the fact that we clearly had a relationship and it was a very strong connection. After he called my name this mysterious man took me into his loving embrace for a few minutes. As I came to look up at him, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes he whispered "I will be back for you before you can even have time to miss me" and just like that I got sucked back into the reality of soap suds still in my hair. That was so.. odd. I don't even know the stranger from last night and here I am having real life events flash through my mind. Either I hit my head on that concrete harder than I thought or, maybe somehow I actually did know him. Now that I think about it… he kind of looked like Devon. With the same cheeky smile and incredible blue eyes, I was almost certain it had to be him. The only question that still remained was how did I know him before I met him last night. This was all so weird and exciting at the same time, I didn't quite know how to feel about it yet.

As my thoughts spun around, I went back to my room. I dried myself off and dropped the wet towel onto the floor. I made my way over to my elegant wooden dresser, and opened the first drawer. Looking at all of the options, a comfortable white bra and matching underwear with hints of lace caught my attention. I grabbed one of my old baggy shirts from the bottom drawer and put it on as a layer of sleeping protection.By this time I was so tired, I didn't feel like going through my skincare routine. Instead, I turned off the lamps and stumbled through darkness until my hands came in contact with the edge of the bed. This night was so strange, first with the tingly senses and goosebumps at the clinic, then the mystery figure outside of my window and now I'm having flashbacks of college with a handsome stranger involved. After staying awake for what seemed like hours rehashing everything that had happened, my eyelids started feeling like heavy weighted bricks and the world I knew grew dark and cold as I drifted off to sleep.
