BOOOOOM!
A fierce explosion took place in the sky as both attacks collided! Sending an intense wind from the impact. The red dragon roared as it flapped its wing raising the altitude of its flight.
Meanwhile, Cassidy stayed seated on the surface of the rock with indifference. The dome shaped barrier that surrounded her had shielded her from the fierce wind.
"This dragon has really high attack and defensive prowess, defeating it may require a strong long range attack magic but..." A frown appeared on her face as she observed the surroundings.
The royal knight was currently dealing with the other dragons nearby. And even the members of the dragon clan were currently facing the other stray dragon's that attack relentlessly.
"Sigh, if I used my strongest spell here, I can't guarantee the others will survive." She heaved an annoyed sigh from that realization.
Meanwhile, in the distance...
Swoosh!
A man who seemed to be in his late sixties moved around nimbly, he slashed his sword fiercely beheading a lesser dragon that had just swooped down attacking him with its sharp claws.
Despite his old age, the vigorous movements of his body did not show any kind of weakness his age signified.
A large dragon with white scales suddenly released a freezing breath towards him. However, the blade of his sword shone with a dazzling light as he released a horizontal slash of light.
BOOOOM!
The slash of light collided with the freezing breath, easily cutting its way through the frosty breath of the white dragon.
ROOOAR!
However, just as the slash of light was about to hit the white dragon, it suddenly maneuvered its large body and skillfully evaded the slash of light.
"Unforgivable! Humans... All of you will perish!"
"I see. This dragon has already matured into an adult." Cole dragon mumbled to himself. Dragons were quite similar to humans, in the same way how as humans grew and mature their intelligence grows along with them. Infants' dragons were naturally unable to speak in human tongue, as they were not mentally developed to understand the words of humans.
Only dragon's that had lived up to roughly, 500 years were able to communicate with humans.
"If you can communicate, can you tell me why you are attacking us? I don't remember committing anything that would incur your wrath." Cole said, expressing his desire to talk peacefully.
"Nonsense! You expect me to talk peacefully with you humans! The ones who had been capturing and murdering our kins!" The white dragon's eyes shone with fury!
Cole furrowed his brow in confusion, 'Capturing and murdering your kins?' He didn't understand. This was all just a misunderstanding. "Sigh, some idiots must have been hunting the younger dragons inside the forest."
The atmosphere suddenly became chillingly cold as small specks of glacier rained down from the sky, which had gotten cloudy at some point.
The frost dragon opens up its maw and from within its jaws a blue beam of compressed light gathered there.
Cole released his spiritual energy, allowing it to gather and converge on the blade of his sword. For a moment, the spirit sleeping inside seem to awaken as the blade shone in an intense light!
The frost dragon could naturally feel the spiritual energy being circulated around Cole's blade and quickly released more magical energy inside the beam of blue light.
Swoosh!
Whoosh!
Soon, they both fired their respective energies at once! A Lazer shaped beam of blue compressed light shot out at a fast speed, instantly closing the distant between the blade of light approaching from the front!
BOOOOOM!...
A fierce wind like storm erupted from both attack as a cloud of dust rose up high into the sky, obstructing their vision.
However, suddenly, Cole felt his hair stood on end and promptly leapt from the spot where he stood. No sooner than he did another beam of light dispersed the cloud of dust and shot towards Cole's location.
"Guh." The ground froze and turned to layers of frost as the beam collided with the earth. While Cole had managed to successfully evade the sudden attack, the shockwave had struck his body sending him flying.
Swoosh!
Using the opening when Cole's body was blown away the frost dragon swooped down from the sky and closed in on him! The frost dragon once again opened its maw and fired another breath attack!
"Shit!" Cole sensed danger and without thinking, he stretched out his dominant hand and created a ball of spiritual energy, sending it towards the incoming beam of compressed light. The ball of spiritual energy intercepted the frosty breath!
BOOOOM!
Both attacks collided and exploded dramatically.
The frost dragon narrowed its blue reptilian eyes warily. Cole staggered to his feet with a painful grimace on his face. The shockwave had done more harm than he had originally thought.
[.... Oi! Old man... Are you going to let me take over?]
A distant voice he hadn't heard in a long time resounded inside his head. Cole frowned slightly when he heard that familiar voice. It was naturally the voice of his spirit sword.
They never really had a very good relationship throughout his life, in fact the two rarely ever spoke to each other.
Hearing that voice suddenly spoke to him now made him realize he was in more trouble than he originally estimated.
"What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?" Cole responded even as he evaded the claws of the frost dragon.
[Hmph, still keeping up that tough act, aren't you the one who suddenly stopped training and mellowed down after the death of your son all those years ago?] The spirit said, its voice filled with contempt.
Whoosh!
"Urk!" The frost dragon swung its thick tail slapping away Cole's body like an annoying fly. A large gash opened up on his chest as he was sent flying from the impact.
A small dust cloud rose up as he rolled helplessly onto the ground. "Cough." He used his hand for support as he coughed up a mouthful of blood and slowly got to his feet. "... Where are you going with this?" Cole asked.
[You know why your clan lost so much influence and is treated as nothing more than a laughingstock to those around you? It's because you stop walking down the path we walk before that brat died... I was watching, you know? You were the one who lost interest and stopped caring.]
"..." Cole said nothing, at this point he had completely stopped listening to the voice that seem to resonate with his soul and focus on deflecting the attacks of the frost dragon.
"H-Hey, is master Cole being force to defend?"
"Th-That ice dragon is bad news, even Sir Cole who was currently the strongest swordsman in the dragon clan can't get close."
"Why are these dragon's attacking us anyway?"
Seeing Cole being forced to be on the defending side the other mages and knights became impatient. The number of dragon's flying in the sky kept increasing in proportion to the number of injuries on the battlefield.
Cassidy stayed seated with a troubled expression on her beautiful face. She was observing the battle between Cole and the frost dragon for some time now and quickly deduced that the situation wasn't good.
'I have no choice; I'll have to use some stronger spells.' She thought as she got to her feet. Dragon's all have incredible tough skin capable of rendering most magic attacks ineffective.
In order to cause any meaningful damage, she would have to use a spell of either advance or supreme rank.
Initially she didn't want to use any spell that would exhaust her mentally but now she didn't really have a lot of options. The red dragon's eyes burn with fury as it kept attacking the barrier with its breath attacks. Cassidy observed the red dragon with a cold glint in her eyes even as her soft lips began to move.
"Render all my enemies incapacitated, leave no trace of their remains behind." A purple three-layer magic formation appeared, "Show the might of destruction! Absolute purgatory!"
The magic formation shone, as a dark destructive energy was released!
The red dragon tried to intercept it with a breath attack, unfortunately...
ROOOOAAAR!
The dragon howled in pain as its red scales scattered and broke apart. Green blood spewed from its flesh. Cassidy's lips parted as she blew out a puff of smoke. Her gorgeous face was pale as she struggled to maintain her barrier.
"Absolute purgatory" Took up a lot of magical energy. Way more than she wanted to use. However, her attack had caused considerable damage to the red dragon, so she wasn't disappointed.
"I should be able to use that attack two more times in my current condition." She mumbled to herself.
...
Meanwhile, inside the dragon clan...
Alan slept comfortably inside his bed.
[... Hey, are you awake? Something interesting is happening outside, you know.] Akane's cheerful voice resounded.
"... Can't I sleep for ten more minutes?" Alan said as he turned in his bed, strands of his messy silver hair covered his face.
[Sigh, this is what happens when you don't go to sleep early instead of meditating the entire time.] Akane sounded exasperated.
[Anyway, I'm sure you'll also find this interesting; it seems a battle is taking place outside. Your dragon clan are also out there.]
"Eh, really?!" Upon hearing about the battle taking place outside, along with the fact that the dragon clan was also present, Alan got up from under the covers.
[Heh, I knew you would be interested. Yup, not long ago I sensed a swarm of dragon's approaching, and the numbers are not small at all.] Akane explained.
"... Dragon's, huh. Just to be clear... What kind of dragon are we talking about?" Alan inquired, if it were true dragon then facing them head on would be difficult and killing them would be an impossible feat. At least for Humans.
[No need to worry, I can't sense any true dragon's nearby, the dragons outside are only lesser dragon's and other subspecies of dragons. True dragons are proud and noble dragon's, they definitely wouldn't be interested in attacking any humans as they are too prideful to attack the weak.]
"I see..." Alan hummed to himself with his hand beneath his chin. Akane remained silent as she saw him sunk into his thoughts. "Well then... I guess I should go and help out." He said as he broke the silence.
[He hehe... I had a feeling you were going to say that.]
"Let's see how capable this new body is." Alan swipes the strands of his hair to the side as he said that.
[Okay, Mr. dragon slayer, how are you going to do that exactly?]
"Hmmm... What do you mean?" Alan tilted his head puzzlement.
[You... H-Have you forgotten about your mom do you think she is going to allow you to enter a battlefield?]
"Ah! Now that you mentioned it..." Alan furrowed his brow troubled. 'There is no way she will let me go, will she?' Alan was only nine years old. Allowing someone of that age to enter a battlefield was simply insane. However, a smirk appeared on Alan's face at that.
"It doesn't matter! Nothing will get in my way!"
[Do you have a plan?] Akane inquired.
"Yup, we'll sneak out!" At that Alan promptly went towards his closets and took out a black robe.
...
Several minutes later...
Alan left his room and walked through the long hallway of the dragon clan estate. Along the way he was stopped by several workers, but he skillfully came up with a reasonable excuse to leave.
Finally, after entering the garden and approaching the walls of the garden that was at a reasonable height, he could jump, he quickly approached it with quick movements.
However, "Y-Young master!" A familiar voice called out to him from behind. Turning his head, he saw a young black-haired girl dressed in maid attire. Trisa held the hem of her dress as she approached him.
"Big sister Trisa, is something wrong?" Alan asked innocently. "Young Master, madam wants you to come to her immediately." She said, panting for breath. It seems she had run the entire way here.
"... I understand but... Is there a reason for the urgency?" Alan acted naively.
"Haah... We are currently being attack by dangerous dragon's outside. So, we are supposed to stay inside where it's safe." She explained.
"I... I see. Well then we can't keep mom waiting." Although he was frustrated, he decided to go along with her. 'I guess I'll have to wait until I'm alone to sneak out.' Alan slumped his shoulders as he sighed dejectedly.
...
Meanwhile. The battle grew more intensely...
The dragon's fought with great ferocity, while the mages and knights fought back fiercely. Explosion occurred all over the battlefield as the dragon's fired their breaths gouging the earth.
ROOOAAAR!
A painful cry reverberated as Cole jumped into the air and thrust the blade of his sword into the eyes of the frost dragon!
The frost dragon tried to swallow Cole, but he twisted his body as he leapt back dodging the attack.
Even as the frost dragon writhed in pain from its missing eye, Cole showed no changed of his expression. The blood of the frost dragon painted the blade of his sword. "Tch, that's all I've managed to do until now." A bitter grimace appeared on his face. The nauseating scent of blood gradually permeated the area.
The ground was filled with the corpses of either human or dragons. However, the losses of the human's side were far more evident.
"Hellfire!" Cassidy continued to fire long range attack magic towards the dragon's flying in the sky.
