Miguel rushed to Gemma's room and found her eyes open as she lay on the bed.
"You are awake," he said with a sigh of relief as he walked to her side and sat down beside her on the bed.
"Mm," Gemma groaned as she tried to move on the bed.
She felt pain all over her body, it felt as if she had been run over by a truck. Every part of her body ached. Any slight movement she made was greeted with pain.
"What happened?" She managed to choke out. She couldn't believe her own voice, it sounded so hoarse and nothing like hers.
"You were shot," Miguel said in a soft tone as he used his index finger to brush her hair away from her face.
Gemma couldn't seem to read his expression. Was that relief she saw on his face?
Was he worried about her or is she just being mistaken? Whatever Miguel felt, he did a good job of not showing it, for he now seemed nonchalant.
