The silence in the car was poignant as I and Jake drove to school. He kept stealing glances at me while I kept my gaze fixed to the window.
"Are you sure you're okay Jen?" He asked for the second time since he came to pick me up. Jimmy must have been the one who put thoughts into his head since the first thing he asked when he saw Jake was, 'What's wrong with Jenny?'
"I am, Jake. Cut it off."
"Fine," he replied in n a tight voice and didn't say anything more till we got to school.
We alighted without saying a word to each other and parted ways. I went to my locker to get my text books ready for English.
"Boo!" Sally said, as she crept up behind me.
Did she really think that would scare me?
I shut my locker and turned to face her with a dead pan look. "What?"
The brightness in her brown eyes died immediately. "Whoa, seems like someone's in a bad mood."
"I'm not," I groaned. "Just not in the mood for small talk or high schoolers acting like middle graders."
