I was walking through the school hallway heading to my locker as the weekend was over and it was time to resume school again. I was happy to be in school except for the fact that I was not still talking to Jake.
When I got to my locker, something - or rather, someone - caught my attention.
I saw Jason and Bianca kissing each other and it wasn't even the short kind that most people would call friendly kiss as it was still ongoing right in front of me. Jason was leaning against the locker while Bianca was in front of him as he held her close against his body. Bianca's hand was digging through his hair as the kiss got intense.
They were fucking making out.
I don't know what came over me as I started walking towards them in anger but someone's outstretched arm - palm against locker - stopped me from walking further.
I turned and saw that it was Sally who stopped me with a worried look on her face.
"What do you think you want to do?" She asked me.
"I don't know, maybe I should probably separate them or something."
"Why?"
"Because... Because... I'm stupid." I didn't even have a good reason for going to stop them and it made me feel stupid. Maybe because it was Bianca...or Jason.
"Exactly." She wrapped her arm around my back and patted me but it wasn't a smooth action as she was shorter than me. "You've gotta let it go girl. You don't have to embarrass yourself by intruding."
"Why does it have to be Bianca though?" I sulked.
"I'm not surprised. Bianca is a slut and Jason... He's a fool for falling into her claws so early."
"Hey don't say that. I'm sure it was Bianca who was all over him and Jason just...seized the opportunity."
"Are you seriously defending him right now?" Sally asked, dumbfounded.
"I'm not. I'm just trying to be rational."
"Don't delude yourself Jen, I'm the rational one here."
I rolled my eyes at her words.
"Don't worry, he's just your crush, you'll soon forget about it."
"I know, but still-"
"I get it, it hurts to see your crush making out with another girl but trust me, I've been through this heartbreak severally and it doesn't last more than a minute."
I chuckled. Sally was really something else. "Whatever you say Sal."
"What about Josh?" She suddenly asked out of the blue.
"Why do you always bring up Josh when we're talking about Jason."
She shrugged, " Josh is your boyfriend and Jason is your crush - not a celebrity crush though - I feel it's stupid and you should give up one."
"Josh is still my boyfriend and like you said I'll forget about Jason."
She nodded. "Good for you," she suddenly gave me a serious look. "Wait, have you made a move on him yet?"
"No." I shook my head. I didn't want to tell her that I had asked him to coach me in basketball and he refused or that he gave me a ride home."
"You're lying."
"I'm not."
"I know you are but I'll try to believe - whoa, does Jake have a girlfriend now?"
I followed Sally's gaze to see Jake and a black haired girl - whom I couldn't recognize - holding hands and talking in low tones to each other. They both seemed happy and Jake was laughing at something the girl said.
"Who knew Jake had a thing for black haired girls with brown eyes?" Sally commented, smiling broadly.
Instinctively, I folded my arms and tightened it. "Who is she?"
"I recognize her from my chemistry class, I think her name is Kate." Sally replied, her gaze still fixed on them.
I scoffed. "She looks shallow."
Sally bumped my shoulder with hers. "Are you jealous?" She winked at me with a lopsided grin on her face.
"I'm not. She's not his girlfriend and even if she is, she's not the right one for him."
"And you concluded in that by?"
"By merely looking at her." I confirmed.
"Are you still not talking to Jake?"
"Yeah." I replied dully.
"Seriously?"
"Yes, why?" I asked cause she looked really astonished.
She shook her head, "I really think you should talk to him if you don't want to lose him." She patted my back. "I've got to go see Andrea and Rhea, Bye." She said and took her leave.
I slumped my shoulders as what Sally said sunk in. Today was totally not my day. In fact, everyday was not my day.
Cole suddenly appeared and draped his arm over my shoulders. He was wearing a blue plaid shirt with a face cap facing backwards over his dark dreads. "Hey girl, how 'you doing?"
I forced out a smile. "I'm good."
He nodded. "So, how was the weekend?"
"It was weird." I replied, thinking back to the teddy bear incident."
"Hmm." Was all he said as we walked on with his arm still draped over my shoulder.
"Where are we going to?" I asked, when I noticed we weren't headed to the direction of the class.
"It's a surprise." He smiled at me.
I totally hated surprises, especially big ones. I had once fainted because of a surprise Jimmy and Jade threw me.
We suddenly stopped in the school's large hall and I couldn't help but wonder how this was the surprise place since I've been here countless times.
It wasn't until Cole removed his arm from my shoulders and stepped aside that I noticed the students in the hall. I could also sight Josh ahead in the midst of some students in front of me.
Were we having some morning function that I didn't know about? Josh started walking towards me and I became even more confused. I looked sideways for some help or sign but there was none.
He was finally right in front of me and before I could even think of greeting him with a 'hi', his hands cupped my cheeks and he kissed me. My eyes widened in shock before they finally fluttered close. This wasn't my first kiss but it was my first from Josh since we started dating—which has not been really long—and this was not how I expected it to be. Maybe because I was in shock or I was simply not in the right mood today but I didn't really revel in the kiss as his lips moved slowly over mine, fondly sucking in my lower lip.
When he finally released me, I was stunned and he was smiling down at me. I noticed everyone the hall were with their phones. They had probably taken a video of the kiss. I still didn't understand why Josh had to this in front of everyone, I made no sense to me.
"Why did you plan this?" I asked him in a low tone.
He shrugged, "I wanted our first to be special."
And you think 'this' is special?
Talk about awkward.
I wished the ground would just open up and swallow right there and then.
Cole suddenly appeared out of nowhere and held Josh tightly against his shoulder. He was grinning, "You sure got her bro."
I shook my head and resisted the urge to face palm myself. He actually did surprise me but not in the way I was expecting it. I was sure it was Cole who gave him this ridiculous idea.
"Sorry to steal Josh away from you but we gotta go Jen." Cole said with a wink as he left, dragging Josh along.
I was now standing alone in the middle of the hall trying to make sense out of all of it. Almost everyone had cleared the hall.
Bianca and her two side chicks—Chloe and Stephanie, sauntered towards me. "Hey dummy," she greeted with her regular high pitched tone.
"Hi stupid," I retorted.
She rolled her eyes and folded her arms stylishly, "If you really think Josh did this just to flatter or surprise you, you had better have a rethink because the real reason behind this surprise is that he wants to get in the front page of the school's gossip magazine and also the school's vlog," she turned towards Chloe, "What's it called again?"
"Hash tag kiss a girl in the school public." Chloe replied.
"Yeah and a lot of people have been doing it so don't get your hopes high Perkins because he just used you."
"You're getting it all wrong Bianca, if Josh wanted to participate in the so-called challenge, he has every right to and the reason why he kissed me and not some other girl is because I'm his girlfriend. So get it right Bianca, he didn't use me but on the other hand why do I have a feeling that Jason used you to be in the vlog?"
She laughed so much to my surprise, placing her perfectly manicured hands over her bare chest as she was putting on a pink off-shoulder chiffon top. "oh, so that's what this is all about. Were you angry when you saw Jason kissing me? You don't have to be dear, because like you said, Josh is your boyfriend so I see no reason why you should have eyes for another guy and by the way that kiss wasn't public, you just happened to see it."
I wanted to throw a witty comment at her but I was tongue-tied.
"Cat got your tongue girl?" She smirked. "Let's go." She gestured towards her friends and they sashayed out of the hall, leaving me standing speechless.
I felt so dumb and stupid as I stood there so I just exited the hall. As I walked through the hallway, it suddenly dawned on me that it was English I was having first and I wasn't ready for Mrs Berkeley's troubles so I quickened my pace.
I wasn't even focusing on where I was going as my mind was clouded so I bumped into someone but the person caught me by the arm before I could trip and fall.
I turned and saw that it was Jason. My ever glorified crush.
