Chapter 32 - Thirty two

Ann wasn't crazy, she was okay. How could he think she was crazy? Even if she was, she was the good kind of crazy, the likeable kind I guess because I liked her and everything she did.

"Do you like Jessie?" I asked him as a counter attack for what he just said about Ann.

"No." He was quick to say no.

"Really? I think you like her."

"No, I don't."

"You said she's pretty right? and smart and sexy, you've noticed all of that because you like her." I was enjoying this, seeing the embarrassment on his face.

"Don't." He took off his specs and started to wipe the glasses."I know what you are doing."

"What am I doing, telling you something you know?" I laughed shortly.

"Okay, I'm out of here. I'm not doing this with you." He said, putting his glasses back on and heading for the door.

After I left the lecture hall, I took a cab to Ann's. It was the last lecture I had for the day. I didn't have a good enough reason to be going over to Ann's today but I just wanted to see her.

After paying the driver, I got off the taxi and headed upstairs to her apartment even if I didn't see her car parked outside, I just thought; maybe her roommate took it out to go somewhere.

I went upstairs and knocked on her door, her roommate was the one to open the door after a while. She was panting and her hair was messy.

"Is Ann in?" I asked really hoping she was because then my coming here would be a total waste of time.

"No." Her reply was quick.

"Oh." I just said, disappointed."When is she gonna be back? Do you know?"

"Uhm...no...yes..." She seemed in a hurry.

"Which?"

"She went for lectures, she should be back by Five." Lily told me and I checked my wrist watch, it was 4:40 pm.

"Do you think I can wait?" I asked her because I was willing to wait in the apartment for Ann to return.

"I don't...I don't think so, I'm sorry." She said biting her lips.

"Oh, okay that's alright." I said and she smiled dryly before closing the door. I guess I was going to be waiting out here.

I don't know why Lily didn't want me in the apartment but I could put myself in her shoes, she would probably be uncomfortable if I stayed and waited in there with her alone, it would be weird.

Leaning against the stair railing, I scrolled through videos on social media to pass time while waiting for her but a thought hit me;

'What if she got home and wasn't happy to see me here?'

'What if she thought I was been disturbing just like I thought Jessie was disturbing, trying to be around me when I didn't want her.'

Still in thoughts, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. It was Ann, I knew because I could hear her laughter as it reverberated in the closed stair walls.

I saw her from where I stood in the steps, she was coming up while she was on a phonecall, laughing loudly, I wonder who she was talking to to make her laugh like that.

I squatted when she came to the top of the stairs where her apartment was. She didn't see me, she just past by me and knocked on her apartment's door.

"Ann." Her roommate looked surprised to see her.

"Oh Lily, you have no idea how tired I am right now, like I just need to shower and have some good sleep." Ann had gotten off her call before she told Lily.

"Yeahhhh, about that...." Lily trailed off.

"What?" Ann asked to know.

"Soooo, I had someone come over...."

"What?! Is it a guy?!"

"Ssshhh, don't let him know you're here."

"What do you mean don't let him know I am here, of course I'm here, it's my apartment!" Ann said in a loud whisper.

"I'm so sorry Ann, I didn't know you'd be coming this soon...."

"Don't say that, I remember telling you I'd be back by Five or six."

"Yeah, that's true....okay, look I'm sorry."

"Who is it? Eric?"

"No."

"Who then?"

"Pete."

"Pete?!!!"

"Shhhh."

"Don't shhhh me, Pete's in my apartment?!"

"Come on, don't overreact now, Jerry comes by, doesn't he?"

"Don't you dare compare Jerry to Pete." Ann told Lily who just rolled her eyes.

"Give us just an hour, we should be through by then."

"An hour? Where do you expect me to stay for a whole one hour?"

"Casey's?"

"No, you know I don't like Casey."

"I don't know Ann, Katie?"

"No."

"Jerry?"

"No."

No?? Ann didn't want to come to my place? Well that hurt.

"Why? I thought you like him?" Lily asked her.

She liked me? Okayyy, maybe I am not that hurt by her no anymore.

"Yeah, I do but I can't just go over this lodge. What if he isn't there?"

"Call him?"

"I don't wanna go there Lily, his roommate doesn't like me, Jerry's probably gonna have to convince him for me to stay there a while." Ann sighed.

"Then let him do that, let him convince his roommate."

"No Lily. Why did you even ask Pete here? Of all the guys to bring to my apartment."

"Our apartment..." Lily said with a correcting voice.

"Please, we both know I pay the higher half here."

"Yeah, whatever. Just give me an hour okay. Thanks, I love you." Lily said starting to close the door slowly.

"You owe me one." Ann said just before Lily closed the door.

After standing outside her apartment and doing some contemplating, I saw Ann head back down. Was she going to my lodge? I wanted her to come to my lodge, it would make me happy if she did.....but if she did, I wouldn't be there to receive her because I was here, here at her own apartment.

Shit. Dylan wasn't even home, if she got there she might be stranded. I needed to get there before she did, somehow. I don't know why she wasn't calling before heading to my lodge, I would find that unreasonable of her if I wasn't just waiting for her without been sure of her arrival.
