Jason Miller's POV
I once read in a book 'to love and be loved is the greatest thing'. I wish I could relate to that sentence but it's not applicable to my life. Someone actually loving you? I call it bullshit. I've only ever felt loved by one person; my cat. A trader because on my sixteenth birthday the dang thing ran away; its officially a runaway.
Before I continue boring you with this thing called my life let me introduce myself.
Hey... I'm Jason Miller; hopeless romantic, soccer player and oh, I love starring at Anastasia Grimes.
She isn't one of the popular girls in the school. Last year we were partners for a chemistry project and since then I've been captivated by her. I didn't tell her about my feelings because I knew she'd reject me.
"You are literally drooling." Damien pointed it out. And gave me a nudge on my shoulder with his elbow.
"He's Probably thinking about Anastasia again." Jenifer pointed out with an annoyed look on her face.
Jenifer is a lesbian and she is dating Hailey's sister of Frank Knight who is also a soccer player.
Damien is known for pulling the best pranks while Jenifer is known to be one of the best basketball players at this school.
And are you ready to find out what I'm known for?
When I was six my mother forced me to take part in a soda commercial, my acting skills were terrible. I kind of looked like I was being held at gunpoint.
Most people at school call me soda boy; typical highschoolers. I don't even drink soda anymore; I was traumatized.
"Don't you think it's about time you go tell Anastasia Grimes how you actually feel?" Damien proposed.
"Confession." Jenifer spoke.
"Love letter." Damien added.
"There is no way I'm doing that. I'd rather sit in a math class for five whole hours." I pointed out.
"Oh, I guess you're just gone continue looking I mean starring no I mean stalking her like a creep wait weirdo." Damien said.
Ouch!
"Yes, I will." I spoke.
"I will pay for your lunch the entire month if you agree to writing a letter to her." Damien offered.
Holly molly.
Free lunch for a month.
A smile made its way to my face.
"It's a deal." I spoke.
Damien let out a victorious laugh with a smug grin on his face.
After a couple of minutes, I drowned out the noise around me; everyone and everything except her. I took another glance at Anastasia. My heartbeat began to rise. Shit I am actually going to write her a love letter. Be cool.
Even if I do get rejected the bright side is I'm going to get free lunch either way. I love free lunch.
I guess I have to suck it up.
Half the day already passed. I was stressing about the writing love letter thing. I was nervous. Rejection is the one thing that I hate.
There's an elephant in the room. I didn't even know which one was her locker but I had a clue though.
I was in the hallway trying to figure out which one is hers.
I know you're wondering why don't I just give it to a friend who can give it to her but I don't trust people, they will either read it or just ask too many questions and honestly both scenarios I hate. And honestly giving her in person scares me because I'm not the most good-looking person.
I wrote the following in the letter by the way:
'I like you and honestly telling you this makes me feel nervous. I'm sure you already know because I don't behave quite normal around you. You make my heartbeat faster. You make me nervous and hot and all kinds of stuff. I had a crush on you for quite a while now. I just had to say it. I'm sorry if this letter makes you feel uncomfortable, that wasn't my intentions. Have a great day.'
-Jason (Soda Boy).
Yep, that's what I wrote.
I let out a sigh.
I continued to roam the hallways looking for Anastasia's locker. I spotted a locker written in a black marker A which I'm guessing is short for Anastasia. Which by the way is school vandalizing; it's against the school rules. She doesn't seem like a rebel, but oh well.
I didn't care; the thought that she's a rebel turned me on a bit. Before I decide to chicken out. I quickly shuffled the letter in her locker through the tiny gap.
I quickly ran away and hid. I do look like a creep, oh well.
I waited for seconds and minutes. Learners came rushing into the hallways but still no Anastasia; I couldn't find the person I wanted to see the most in that large storm of learners.
Then something weird happened, a male student, dark skinned and curly hair made his way over to Anastasia's locker his name is Anderson was he messing with Anastasia's locker?
He put in the code and removed a couple of books. Oh shit, they are his. The letter fell onto the ground and he picked it up. And I was just watching in fear.
He looked at it in confusion.
I let out a defeated sigh, it was meant for Anastasia not him.
I began to rub my temples in confusion.
Maybe it's not his locker and she gave him her combination to get her books, yep that's it, sounds reasonable. He was her friend?
What if he reads the letter and outs me out to the rest of the school.
Fuck my life.
I'm dead.
Social life that I don't have; gone.
Popularity that I don't have; gone.
I've become a mere mortal.
[THE NEXT DAY]
I'm still thinking about what happened yesterday; the locker love letter incident.
We were currently in the math class but the teacher hasn't yet arrived and guess what I was doing? C'mon guess? Starring at Anastasia; gorgeous.
Weird thing is she wasn't even looking at me, not even a glimpse, side glimpse; nothing. Ouch. Which kind of led my thoughts to telling me that the guy from yesterday which I'm pretty sure his name is Anderson didn't give her my letter. What if he opens it and reads it was meant for Anastasia and tells the whole school? Fuck me!
"You need to stop stressing about your little love letter" Damien says winking.
"I'm sure the dude will give it to her; patience." Damien added.
I gave him a nod and decided to join his conversation with Jenifer.
"What are you guys talking about?" I asked.
"That bananas and plantains are not the same thing, Damien." Jenifer said, starring at Damien in a frustrated way.
"They are, right Jason? Plantains are basically the cookable bananas." Damien said proudly.
Jenifer just lets out a sigh and I watch how Damien leans in his chair proudly.
"When eating a bowl of cereal. Do you add milk before the cereal or after the cereal?" Jenifer asked.
"Off topic Jen, how is that related to bananas?" Damien asked.
"I add milk first obviously." Damen added.
"Gross!" Jenifer exclaims.
"Which is gross? The first joke he made about how plantains are basically the cookable bananas or the adding milk thing first?" I asked confused.
"Both" Jenifer said.
Damien continues to just stare at her clearly amused.
"What is the shape of the earth, Damien?" Jenifer asked.
"I promise to a God if you say flat, I will smack you so hardly you'll need a brain transfer." I spoke.
"He'll need that brain transfer twice if he even thinks of saying the shape of the earth doesn't exist." Jenifer added.
We both death stare at him; waiting for some dumb answer to escape from his lips.
"Idiots!" Damien snorted.
"The earth is clearly…. A donut." Damien says.
Jenifer blinks three times and gave him a smack at the back of his head.
"His brain is clearly a donut." I tell Jenifer but referring it to Damien.
"Whatever." Damien says.
At that moment the guy from yesterday entered the classroom. He was scanning the room; with his eyes obviously. And I was busy scanning him; I could see him clearly from where I was seated.
His eyes were a piercing shade of brown, freckles and thick eyebrows. The one-sided dimple; left side. There was a barely visible scar above his right eyebrow.; it was fading, like it was never there.
Our eyes met.
Shit. Shit. Fuck. Shit. Shit.
A weird chill ran down my spine and I quickly looked elsewhere.
A second later. I looked back up at him and he wasn't even staring at me and began to make his way to his seat and taken his seat besides someone.
"That's him." I say to Damien and Jenifer.
"Who?" they both ask in sync.
"The guy who just walked in and is seated over there." I speak.
And they both look at him. Damien lets out a hum while Jenifer chewed her bottom lip like she was hiding some kind of piece to the puzzle; there isn't even a puzzle but still.
I won't lie that caught my interest a bit; what is it about this guy. And what do my friends know about him?
"Jenifer, do you know who he is?" I asked.
She's clearly hiding something. Tick tock, spill the beans.
"No." she said quickly.
"What makes you think that?" she forces a smile.
Fake smile.
I let it slide for now.
I leaned in my seat, and just then Anastasia turned around and gave me a warm smile. The problem was it wasn't for me, it was for Jenifer.
"Do you guys even know each other?" I asked.
"No, let's talk about something else." She said quickly with the same fake ass forced smile.
Damien and I were clearly suspicious.
I turned to him.
"Alright what do you have in mind?" I asked.
