The morning of the fourth day started with the rising of the sun, my tasks within the city were unchanged, i quickly bartered off my crafted goods for an assortment of ingredients and materials, while accepting copper coins for the remainder which instantly turned to small lumps of copper within my palm.
After completing this i quickly went to my storage and stashed away the new goods.
With that task completed i quickly hurried my way from the city since there was nothing at all that i with my handicap could do here.
My journey through the city gate was uncomplicated as the guards had ceased looking bewildered at my actions.
As i continued on my way through the wasteland i could still spy various other player parties going on combat expeditions.
But as a crafter i need goods, sure i could try buying them from the combatives but how since all i can do is barter...
In the end gathering the good myself is for the best.
But i should also look to gain some experience and level myself up some while at the same time increasing my stocked goods.
With this in mind, my goal for today would be to do some simple hunting.
That goblin i fought and managed to kill before provided a good sum of experience to help me level up but also dropped items.
If i can find more goblins, or even wild boar, or slimes i as a newbie should be more than enough to handle them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finishing my walk i arrived at my campsite within the forest, using it now as my basecamp, i picked a random direction and set of jogging, darting my way through the trees.
Axe clutched tightly in one hand, small knife in the other.
Remaining vigilant since the game could spring an ambush on me at any time.
Gaming like this was seriously difficult since there was no minimap or methods currently to show where the enemy was at.
As i continued to dodge passed the trees, keeping my eyes peeled for any sort of monster or creature to which i could hunt for materials.
Leather, Bones, Fur, and most importantly edible meat!
It was in the distance i spotted my first quarry a small herd of monsters that looked a lot like sheep except for the ram horns attached to their heads.
eh it's a game and without the ability to know it's name let call it a Bicorn Sheep, or Bareep for short.
Not sure how tough this type of monster is but if it's anything like sheep on earth i should be able to get wool, and meat at the very least from it.
Now let's see how should i fight them?
Their grazing lazily in a forest clearing so i have the tactical advantage but they outnumber me five to one.
Well nothing gained but not trying, after all I'll need to learn their attack patterns anyway just like any other mmo.
Readying knives in my hand as i continued to peer out from behind a tree at the Bareep.
Fwee Fwee Fwee
Three stone knives were whipped through the air each heading toward a different Bareep.
The minute the third left my hand i shot out to the side running away from the position i first launched the knives from, readying another pair to target the exposed Bareep whose attention should be turned to my original position.
Counter to my expectations however the three flying blades merely bounced off their woolen bodies.
Luckily unlike most games while their alertness rose they didn't target me directly.
So next i launch another two knives but instead of targeting their bodies i instead aimed for their legs where there isn't thick wool covering.
those were my last two knives so if they don't connect i'll need to retreat, while waiting i pulled out both my stone axes and took up a stance that was easy to charge to retreat from.
Luck this time was on my side as the stone knives made contact and dealt damage so stone is capable of piercing their hides, though not deeply judging by the damage but damage is damage in the end.
Flipping the mental coin in my head, its high risk - low reward, afterall death here means i'm out of the beta, and left looking for a new job, meanwhile the reward is merely basic materials and ingredients from monster drops...
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Steeling my resolve i darted out from behind the tree rushing toward the herd.
The five reorganized their formation placing the healthy three up front, while the two wounded took up the rear guard.
The closer i got the more like monsters these sheep turned out to be, their eyes were simply demonic, mouths lined with razor sharp teeth, their curled horns were riddled with bumps, and sharp spines
Well i'm equipped like a brawler/barbarian type right now though with their physical resistance caused by that wool body armor most of what i can do is useless so i'll need to be careful dodging however i can, working my way into a positions to target their weakspots.
Their limbs and heads.
Sheep being sheep their only methods of attack should be charging with their horns, kicking with their feet once grounded and possibly a magical attack.
Closing in on the first three, the leader was pawing the ground looking for the chance to charge.
Seeing this i prepared to dodge left or right at anytime, keeping my eye on the other pair on the leaders flanks.
My first true to form battle in this new world of ours.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haaah Haaah Haaah
Finally it's over!
Never in my life would i think a fight with five sheep could turn into a life and death battle.
Though i dealt with the five Bareep i didn't walk away unscathed.
I was lucky only to take a charge head on once without being able to block or absorb the hit, and sure will remember that pair of double kicks i was dealt.
Perhaps i would look into increasing my combat ability by increasing my range of weapons.
As it stands right now my only ranged attack is my throwing knives and they could pierce monster wool, meanwhile my hatchets reach isn't that much further than a long dagger, or shortsword so maybe looking into getting a spear or longsword would be good to keep me away from the enemy while also increasing my own combat power.
A spear is do-able using stone and wood, however getting a sword would require me to breakthrough to using metal in my creations.
I've got some simple minerals thanks to the coins converting back into materials.
But still no method to forget with them, not to mention the amounts are barely enough right now to make a knife, or small hammer.
Well never mind that now let's loot our spoils first then continue the hunt, once lunch comes our plan will change to the next stage.
As i walked around i grabbed up the dropped materials which were lumps of flesh, i assume it's mutton, next up was a small collection of their horns, a fairly large amount of monster wool, five monster cores each slightly larger in size than the one i got from the goblin before, and lastly there was some sort of black marble it didn't seem to do anything so i'll just store this for now until i can get it appraised and find out just what it is I'm dealing with.
But no bones... Guess it's wood and stone tools still until we advance to the bronze age!
Lunch shall be Mutton unless better meat presents itself before me, so i set off into the forests depth continuing the hunt, while also collecting various herbs and vegetation along the way.
