Finally, it's the weekend. No classes, no college, just me, my books, my series and I forgot, Clare. Thanks to Sanhyul, the spray worked like a wonder and I don't feel any pain now. There is not a single weekend after we became best friends that I have spent alone. Some weekends she stays over and some weekends I do. I remember once Clare's family had planned a trip for the weekend and I was supposed to go with them but I caught the flu at the end of the week and Clare had to go alone. We were just twelve years old back then. She threw a fit and even cried a lot. My parents helped her parents to persuade her to go because if she had stayed she would also have caught the flu as she didn't want to leave my side. After that incident, I knew "she is the one". We all have or need that someone whom we can trust with our blind eye beside your parents and it doesn't have to be a lover. For me, it was Clare. She is loud and chatty, but that's what makes my boring life happening. She has an older brother who doesn't stay with them. He has left for college. When we were kids he used to let us play his video games which was fun. But once he started to make friends with older guys we stopped hanging out.
We have a silly tradition in our family. Every alternate weekend Clare and my family get together to have a family dinner. Sometimes we invite Mr and Mrs. Kim too, our neighbor. Mrs. Kim is a very adorable woman with a beautiful complexion. My Mom loves her. They have a big family business in Korea. Some of their restaurants and malls are here. To handle all these Mr and Mrs Kim travels a lot, especially Mr Kim. My Mom and Mrs Kim love to try each other's recipes. Food is their main pillar of communication.
"I heard from Mom that Mrs. Kim is bringing someone to dinner tonight, some new family member", I said to Clare sitting on my bed. She was busy choosing my outfit which I am going to wear for dinner. "Yeah I heard that too," she replied.
"So, mama said to dress up properly, we should wear dresses". I was checking inside my wardrobe for a proper dress. "Clare, tell me what I should wear?" I was so confused.
"My Baby, just wear that olive green one which I had brought for you" She came out from the washroom and gave me a back hug.
"I thought you brought it for yourself". The dress was so cute. I kept it on myself and checked out in the mirror. It does suit me. "Thanks Babe, but what are you going to wear?"
"I was planning to wear the blue one, which I had left here the previous week. It is a nice dress", she shrugged.
"Nope, you are not wearing that, you are going to wear that pink one which I have. You will look perfect"
"Alright, but I am going to do your makeup too. I don't trust you". She knows I am bad at make-up.
"Okay okay sure, as you wish. Let's hurry, mom was calling for breakfast for twenty minutes. You know she will be furious if we don't go down in five minutes. So, let's go" I was already ready for the day.
I had planned to stop by at the library then to the bookstore for some books if I don't get the books I required in the library. But seriously don't want to buy those books, it's better to issue them. So, I hope I find them in the library. Then me and Clare will have an ice cream date planned for us as we both are craving ice cream. Clare left the room with her stuff. Before running downstairs I checked myself in the mirror and double checked if I had my wallet and Id. I took my phone from the table and left for breakfast.
As we were leaving my house, I saw Sanhyul sitting on the bench on their porch. "Hey Sanhyul, thanks for the spray. It worked." I smiled and waved at him. He didn't reply to me, he just nodded his head and went back to looking at his phone.I looked back at him, he was smiling a little or I was just imagining that. He doesn't smile much. He always has this serious look going on his face. He wasn't like that when we were children.
"He gave you that spray?" Clare asked me, nudging my hand.
"Yeah, haven't I told you that?"
"No, you didn't. That's strange. I never thought he would help you." She looked surprised.
"He is not that bad Clare and he does help me sometimes when he is not moody." she laughed listening to me.
I was still thinking if he did smile or not. "Let it be", I sighed.
