Synopsis
“Harper.” Harper stopped and slowly turned around, and was greeted by Leighton, who was staring intently at her. “Do you like Ethan?” Leighton asked, her heart beating so fast as she prayed for Harper’s answer to be no. Harper plastered a mischievous smile and started walking back toward Leighton. Harper invaded Leighton’s personal space but Leighton didn’t take a step back, showing Harper how serious she was. Harper lowered her head to level her eyes on Leighton as she uttered, “Why do you ask?” “J-Just answer my question.” Leighton replied, feeling extremely nervous at how close Harper's face was. Harper glanced at Leighton’s lips then back to her eyes, smiling widely in amusement, then moved her face away a little bit. “No, I don’t. Do you want to know who I like?” “Who?” Leighton asked, which almost sounded like a whimper after attempting to gulp down the big lump in her throat. Harper moved her face closer again but this time it slid towards Leighton’s ear and finally whispered, “You.” Leighton Foster was in love with her childhood best friend named Ethan Hughes. Ethan was that typical good boy that had girls drooling over him. He’s the captain of the basketball team. He has good looks, and a great personality, and is an average kid when it comes to studying. He never had a girlfriend because he was always saying that he was focused on basketball and his studies. Everything was normal in Leighton’s life until Harper Peterson transferred to their school and, for the first time, Ethan became interested in someone. Leighton’s treatment of Harper was warm at first. She was friendly and treated her kindly until she learned that Ethan liked Harper. She became cold and easily annoyed at the transferee’s presence. Harper, however, doesn't mind that. She wasn’t bothered at least an inch as to how Leighton was treating her. She instead became sweeter and pesky towards Leighton. The sweet, innocent image that she once showed to Leighton changed into a mischievous one. She suddenly became confident and started hitting on Leighton. When Harper confessed that she liked Leighton and not her best friend Ethan, Leigh thought that Harper was just trying to trick her. She thought that Harper was just trying to fool her. She had never believed Harper’s feelings until Harper shut Leighton’s lips with her own.

Chapter 1 - Pastel Pink

First day of school. Hmp. How boring can that be?

The teachers and the principal of this school would probably be disappointed if they discovered that Leighton Foster, the student council president and the candidate for valedictorian, was viewing schooling as boring. But that was really what Leighton was really feeling. She loves studying. She loves going to school, but not the first day. Because during the first day, students were usually just catching up with the teacher or talking about nonsense things that Foster couldn't relate to. Leighton wasn't interested in hearing their stories. She wasn't interested in anyone except for her childhood best friend and ultimate crush, Ethan Hughes. Ethan was the captain of this school's basketball team. He was sweet and a little bit playful but respectful towards everyone. And most importantly, he was so freaking handsome and hot. (A/N: The author scrunched up her eyebrows when she typed that sentence.)

Ethan was the campus crush, but despite that, he never took advantage of anyone. He was rejecting girls and ignoring the girls who were trying to flirt with him. He said that he first wanted to focus on basketball and his studies. Leighton was grateful for that. She doesn't want to see Ethan hanging out with a girl other than her. She had never voiced out or at least let her feelings for him be obvious in her actions. She was scared of rejection. She was scared of losing their friendship. That is why she has been keeping her feelings for him for more than five years already and she still doesn't have any plan to say it sooner or later. Sometimes she just wanted to assume that Ethan was also just waiting for her. Every time she would fantasize about him, she would blush with herself, then her other best friend, Riley, would snap her out of her thoughts.

"You were thinking about that best friend of yours again, right?" Riley said as she settled on the chair next to her after putting down her bag.

Leighton just rolled her eyes. That's right. That's how her best friend kept interrupting her thoughts over and over again. Leighton ignored her and just kept drawing in her notebook.

"Yes. You were right, Riley. You were always right." Riley said, pretending and copying her voice.

Leighton again just rolled her eyes in annoyance while shaking her head as she finally glanced at her best friend.

"Riley Dixon, stop pestering me first thing in the morning."

Riley tilted her head and pursed her lips as she scrunched up her brows. "I'm not though. I'm just asking you if you were thinking about your best friend and just answered my question since I already know the answer."

Leighton looked boredly at her and leaned her back on the chair's backrest, "If you already know the answer then why still ask?"

"Because I want to." Riley simply answered. "Am I not allowed to do what I want to do?" Riley added, giving Leighton an 'are-you-stupid' look.

Leighton just sighed and rolled her eyes for the third time as she returned her attention to her drawing. Don't misunderstand Leighton, she wasn't an artist. She doesn't have a talent for drawing. What she was drawing was actually just a simple flower that had one leaf on its stem like how preschool kids used to draw them. Leighton was really just bored.

Leighton couldn't have been more grateful to hear the voice of their teacher in their first period, because she definitely needed something that would take her attention away from Riley before she defied the fifth commandment of the divine Ten Commandments. Leighton frowned when she lifted her head and saw a pink-haired girl that entered their room after their teacher. Foster may not know every student's name here, but their faces were familiar to her, especially students in the same year as her. That is why, when she saw her, she was certain that this girl was a transferee.

"Who was that?" Leighton heard Riley ask, but she didn't bother answering Riley's question since she also didn't know the answer to the question. Everyone went quiet and just focused their eyes on the front. Not because the teacher had finally arrived, but because everyone was captivated by the pink-haired girl in the front that was standing and smiling confidently at them.

The girl's hair wasn't really a bright pink but a pastel pink. It actually looks good on her. The woman was tall, at least three inches taller than Foster. She wasn't that fond of their uniform, but when she saw their uniform being worn by that transferee, she was fascinated that she even looked at her from head to toe, not in a lustful way though. It was more like she was admiring the looks and appeal of this woman. She looked beautiful but at the same time handsome while wearing a necktie and coat that were left unbuttoned.

"Good morning class. The student with me now was a transferee. Make sure to treat her right." The teacher warned them then looked back at the transferee, "Please introduce yourself, Miss."

The pink-haired student nodded her head and faced the whole class again, smiling as she roamed her eyes inside the room.

"Hi. I'm Harper Peterson. Please take good care of me." The transferee named Harper said and bowed lightly. When she straightened her body, her eyes met Leighton, who still hadn't averted her eyes at least once. Leighton saw Harper's smile become even wider when their eyes met for a brief second before she looked back at the teacher again.

Leighton arched up her brow for no reason, still staring at the woman named Harper.

"A transferee in the last year of high school?" Foster glanced at her best friend, who was rubbing her nape while squinting her eyes at the transferee.

"What do you think about that Miss Student Council President?" Riley asked, tilting her head in her direction.

Leighton knitted her eyebrows at Riley in confusion about the question. She didn't know how she was supposed to answer that question.

"I don't really care as long as she won't cause any problem, then there's no reason for me to think about her." Leighton coldly replied and just looked down at her notebook again. As if she wasn't satisfied with just one flower, she drew another on the opposite side of the page.

"Don't you think you're pretty cold as the president of the student council?" Riley asked, scrunching up her nose at her.

Foster just rolled her eyes, "No one told me that I should be kind and sweet if I want to be the president." She uninterestedly replied without looking back at her and kept herself busy with her obsession with flowers again.

"You will only become interested in her if Ethan becomes interested in her." Foster heard Riley whisper, but she no longer bothered to contradict that statement, since Riley was indeed right. She will really become interested in someone if that someone tries to flirt with her self-claimed man, not in a good way though.

"Miss Harper, where do you want to sit?" The teacher asked, smiling kindly at the transferee.

Harper, still smiling, looked around the room, searching for a vacant seat. Leighton saw how Harper's eyes twinkled when she saw that there was a vacant seat on her left side.

"Can I sit in the second to the last row on the right side?" Harper sweetly asked the teacher, eyeing Leighton.

"Looks like the transferee has the hots on you." Leighton heard Riley whisper closer to her ear.

Leighton looked back at her best friend, sexily arching her brow. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Riley shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. Maybe she just wants to be friends with you." Now Foster is becoming even more confused.

Leighton was about to ask her another question when a sweet voice interrupted her, "Hi, is it fine if I sat here?"

Foster snapped her head to her left side and saw the transferee, smiling sweetly at her, pointing her index finger at the seat next to her. Now that the transferee was standing close to her, that's when she had only got to stare at the features of this woman. Her deep black eyes were peeking under her curtain bangs, urging Leighton to brush those bangs off her forehead so she could stare at her eyes, but of course, she didn't do that. She will admit it now, this woman was the most beautiful woman that she ever saw in her entire life. She was completely mesmerized that she forgot that the transferee was waiting for her answer.

"Yes, of course. No one was occupying that seat, so you could sit there." Riley answered instead, to the rescue of her preoccupied friend.

"Thank you." Harper replied and settled down on the seat next to Leighton after giving Foster another sweet, innocent smile.

When Harper was finally sitting next to her, that's when Leighton just snapped out of her thoughts as she cleared her throat and straightened herself.

"What? Did that woman just make you gay?" Riley whispered in her ear again while looking in front, pretending to be listening to whatever the teacher was saying.

Leighton looked back at her in disbelief as she scrunched up her eyebrows and gave her a judgemental look. She whispered back, "I don't. I'm not gay, straight, or whatever. I'm only interested in one person. You knew that."
