Skyler's POV
My family was the definition of a perfect family.
My mom was a housewife and my dad owned a very big and famous company. We were very well off and living what you call a perfect life. We used to go on family trips together and went out a lot.
Whenever I came home from school my mom gave me a warm welcome with the most beautiful smile. And every time my dad dropped me at school, he would give me the biggest hug telling me how much he adores and loves me.
Well, to add more, I was an only child so I got all the love from my parents.
My dad worked late so I would have to take the school bus home most of the time but leaving me at school was always my dad's job.
My mom restricted me from many things, but my dad always did whatever I asked of him.
I've always looked up to my dad more than my mom.
He would let me do everything I wanted and buy me candy whenever I wanted, it was rare to find him coming home without a new toy in his hand for me.
He was loved by everyone and was a great support to our family. I looked up to him very much.
He was truly, an example of a perfect man.
But as they say even after the worst storm, the sun will rise, likewise, even after the brightest days there will be a time when the storm strikes.....that's the rule of life.
But my storm whipped out the brightness of the sun completely from my life.
One day, when I came back from school, I went inside the house expecting the same hug and warm welcome I always got. But no one came to welcome me this time.
The air around the house felt heavier and darker.
I decided to go to my parent's room to greet my mom as my dad would normally be at work at this time.
But as I walked towards the room, a loud sound of glass shattering accompanied by the sound of my mom and dad arguing filled the room.
Scared I walked closer to the door to see what was happening.
The door was open a little, enough for me to peek and see what was happening. I looked through the little space between the door and the wall.
A horrifying sight was awaiting me. I still remember it clearly...
My dad was holding a gun, shouting at my mother, and my aunt was also standing there in the corner of the room with a horrified expression.
"YOU COULD HAVE AT LEAST THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY! HOW LOW CAN YOU BE!" my mom shouted at him while tears rolled down her cheeks.
She then proceeded to walk toward my aunt and punched her in the stomach.
"wh..what is happening…mom.." I mumbled in fear.
"I SAID BACK OFF HAILEY" shouted my dad while loading his gun and pointing at my mum.
By now my aunt had started crying too, maybe it was because of my mum's punch or maybe it was something else. I don't know.
"BACKOFF?? YOU SORRY EXCUSE OF A MAN YOU COULD HAVE AT LEAST THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR SON BEFORE DOING THIS".
She was shouting so loud. Her tears wouldn't stop flowing, she hiccuped while screaming as if she was short of breath.
It was surely the most horrific sight for me.
I wanted to burst in, hug her and stop her from crying, tell her whatever it was, it was going to be okay, but I was too scared, not because of my mum but because of my dad.
Dad put his head in his hands and held it tight as if it was about to burst.
"shut up ..shut up…SHUTUP!" He screamed as he pointed the gun once again toward my mom.
-BANG!
I heard the sound of the gun shooting. My soul left my body as the following sight approached me.
As much as I hate to accept it, the reality couldn't leave me alone.
He shot her.
My mum collapsed and my eyes filled up with tears, my mum's body was lying there, right in front of me…lifeless.
I burst into the room with my eyes filled with tears. Crying, I ran towards her and put her lifeless head on my lap.
"wh…why dad…why!" my voice shaking, I looked at the lifeless body on my lap.
It was hard for me to make up my words. I didn't know what was happening around me, all I knew was that my mum was not breathing anymore.
"…dad there's so much blood put it…back... dad please put it..back...mom's not breathing...please take her to the hospital...please dad".
I begged my dad to do something, But we all knew that it was too late, the bullet went straight through my mum's head.
My dad looked at me and then looked down at the gun in his hand, He started shivering. His face turned blue while he gathered the situation and contemplated what he had done.
"NO…no no no NO! HAILEY WAKE UP I'M SORRY I'M SO SORRY BABY WAKE UP PLEASE!"
My aunt was still scrunched down holding herself. She looked at the scene with a shocked expression.
"Hailey please...my wife," my dad mumbled while reaching out to touch my mom.
"NO, GET AWAY FROM HER! YOU KILLED HER GO AWAY!" I screamed in rage.
He stopped and looked at me, shaking, He then looked at the gun in his hand still with the blue expression.
"Skyler…Skyler…my baby I'm so sorry my son...I'm so sorry you know I love mommy ...right?"
Tears started to flow from his eyes as he continued speaking.
"I'm so sorry Skyler, listen to me baby," he said with his voice cracking, his expression not changing
"Listen here. You're a big boy, right? You saw her crying right, you saw how unhappy she was. I sent her to heaven now. She is happy you don't need to worry about her anymore. Look she's not crying I erased her pain do you see that?" he smiled as he started to slowly come closer to me.
"Your mom is happy now Skyler …you love your mom right …. Please stop crying …my boy"
(Stop crying…? How can I stop crying…? mom's not breathing anymore!)
"Skyler…my son…I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry my love. daddy loves you! I-I- I'll love you forever"
He tried to get closer to me.
"STAY AWAY! PLEASE I BEG YOU" I shouted as he tried to hold me.
Shivering he stopped and took three steps back.
"Hailey..." he mumbled as he aimed the gun he was holding to his head.
"NO!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" my aunt shouted from behind.
"I'm sorry, my love."
-BANG!
No, it can't be.
I closed my eyes as if it was going to erase everything I just witnessed from my memory and make everything go back to normal.
He shot himself...He shot himself with the same gun he shot my mother with…right here in front of me. They both are dead.
Maybe it was the guilt that made him do this…maybe it was because he loved my mom… maybe it was because he wanted to be with her...
All I knew at that time was that both of my parents were dead in front of me. Gone.
They say going through the pain of losing your parents is the worst thing to experience, maybe the saying referred to your parent's old age.
But my pain was brought to me way too early and not caused by old age, cause of murder, and suicide.
I looked at him collapsing on top of my mother's lifeless body, her head still on my lap.
I could not say anything or cry anymore I just stared at both of them.
(Why…why did you guys leave me, why did dad do that? why was mom crying? why was aunt there? nothing made sense to me.)
The room which was filled with laughs just yesterday, which was filled with screams a few minutes ago was so quiet all of a sudden.
My aunt got up from her spot and sat down next to me. She slowly put her hand on my shoulder.
"…they both...they...me...they left me" I hiccupped as tears flowed down my eyes.
"You heard your dad Skyler, your mum is in heaven now, she is happy you don't need to worry about her now." My aunt said in a soothing voice as if to calm me down.
I couldn't gather the words to speak.
"And... what about... dad…?"
.....
What she said made my eyes wide open.
The next day, the funeral was held, I cried my eyes out until no tears would come out no more…I already missed them so much. I couldn't imagine a life without them.
My aunt was my only family left now, if it wasn't for her I would have been all alone in this gray world.
To this day, I still don't know why my dad did what he did.
They loved each other so much. They loved me so much. Why did he kill her? Why did he end it? What happened to them? …. all I knew was that my only family was my aunt now.
