Varya knew she would have to face the emperor eventually, but the thought of it happening so soon caused her heart to race and she had to take a seat on her bed. She slumped forward and rested her forehead in her hands.
"I'm never going to get used to facing people like him," she said after giving a long sigh. "He's so cruel, but no one can do anything about it."
If it were anyone else in front of him, Ebari would have told her to watch her words. Having seen what the emperor had done to her firsthand, he could only silently agree. Normally he didn't care about the collateral damage that came from a conqueror like Emperor Kruos, but his soft spot for Varya gave him a new perspective.
"I'll do my best to prepare you," Ebari's expression was soft as he spoke. "I know better than anyone how to convince him."
Varya sat up and made eye contact with Ebari as a thought struck her.
