Slowly, Sam's eyelids began to flutter and after a second or two, he opened his eyes. His brows knitted together as his eyes darted around the place. "Why am I back in my room?" He asked as he continued looking around.
Suddenly, he held his head and a frown formed on his face, "Why do I feel pain in my head but I don't feel any injury on it? And my chest, the wounds are gone!" He mumbled to himself, the frown on his face disappeared and was replaced by a look of shock. He was stunned to see that the deep wounds in his chest were all gone — all the wounds caused by the arrow and the balls of light were no longer there.
Just as he tried to get up, he tilted his head to the other side and was shocked to see someone quietly staring at him with a glass of whatever drink he was having.
"W-who are you? And how did you get in here?" He asked, stuttering as he spoke. By now he was already on his feet but he didn't dare to go close to the man.
The figure Sam was talking to continued sipping from the glass in his hand with no thought of replying to him.
Seeing this kind of attitude, no one would like it and so Sam was getting impatient but at the same time, he didn't want to act reckless for fear of being attacked or even killed. "Did you bring me back to my apartment? How did you do it?" He asked, deciding to change his line of question.
As guessed, the man stopped sipping the drink and the cup completely disappeared to the shock of Sam who had his eyes wide open. "My name is Arthur, and I am your friend!" The man spoke for the first time.
Sam came out of his trance though he wasn't still over the disappearance of the cup, the man's voice gave him shivers causing him to back away.
The man seeing the situation of things chuckled and then sighed, "There is no need for you to be afraid, if I had wanted to harm you, I would have done it a long time ago or even while you were unconscious. You should be dead by now but here you are still alive, you know why?"
"You saved me?" Sam asked in reply. Yes, he was supposed to be dead but here he was, alive and with no wounds on his body. It surprised him for sure but thinking about it now, everything seemed to make sense. "You are the one that brought me back, but why? Why did you save me?"
"Should I have allowed you to die?" The man asked in return, "If I did, then it means that all my plans would be ruined or don't you know?"
"What plans? How am I supposed to know?" Sam questioned almost getting upset.
"My plans to make you powerful!" The man replied. Seeing the knitted brows on Sam's forehead, the man sighed and decided to explain further. "You've been ridiculed for so long already and have been treated harshly by your family and everyone around you, you are a gifted child and I wouldn't want you to perish with that gift. Since you are unable to awaken any ability at your birth, I have concluded that I will give you a system that will help you make use of abilities that no human has and will ever have. With this system, you will become strong, evolve and become the most powerful human to ever come into existence. The question now is, are you willing to accept this gift?"
Sam after listening to what the man has said kept quiet as he pondered on them, after experiencing all that he did at the hands of his family and the people around him, there was no doubt that he wouldn't want to become powerful at any cost but the question now is, what will be the end product?
"Will I still be a human?" He suddenly asked as he could no longer continue thinking and thinking over again.
"The choice is left for you to make, you can be a human for as long as you want and you can still be any other thing. . . That choice is just yours and yours alone to make. All you have to do is make up your mind and accept the system, leave every other thing to fate!"
After some minutes of silence, Sam sighed and looked at the man, "Fine, I accept the system!" He said.
The man smiled and approached him and then laid his hand on his hand. "It's done!" He said after some seconds.
"Just like that?" Sam asked with a confused look. "I don't feel anything."
"You can say the word 'system' in your head or anyhow you want and everything will be shown to you. I'll leave you to your new system, if you need help, let me know!" With this, the man disappeared.
"Wait! He's gone, he didn't even say how to contact him if I need his help," Sam muttered as he stared at the space where the man was standing initially. "Anyway, time to check this thing out! System!"

"This is awesome!" Sam said loud as he stared at the blue transparent window before his face. Though his stats were low, he still felt happy. Just like the stats bar, he saw other bars such as the skills bar, evolution bar and quest bar. He directly thought about the skills bar with every ounce of expectations in his eyes but what he saw made him drop his shoulders in disappointment.

"My skill bar is empty, that means I have nothing yet but even at that, I'm not complaining, I will be patient with it," He said reassuringly and moved to the next bar.

"Everything is locked, let's move on to quest," he said and thought 'quest' in his head.

"Isn't the system a bit stingy with rewards?" He asked with creased brows. "Who am I to complain? I'll do it, still!" A smile crept up to his face as he imagined how powerful he is going to be soon. As long as this system gives him an ability just like other kids, he wouldn't mind if it belongs to anything or even a devil.
"Time to start my quests!" He said as a grin appeared on his face.
